The Fleet Report and Daily for Wednesday September 4th, 2024

Recommended Posts

Thank you for the Dailys and Reports!  And all the extras that everyone adds.  It all makes me smile and enjoy!!

I'll honor and remember the Wildlife and the Newspaper Carriers (of old)!!

And I PROMISE to eat at LEAST ONE extra dessert today!!!  (I may over celebrate with this one!!!)

A clutter-filled place is a sign or creativity...  I'm sure it is!!!

I love soup...  but I'll wait a few more months till we have some cold around here!!

Mmmm... to the beverages!

And I'd enjoy going to Dover -- but I've only seen it from the air, till I see these photos!

Prayers and warm thoughts and wishes for everyone!!

@grapau27

Thanks CC.  I didn't click on anyone's posts. I had a long post added a few wildlife photos and suddenly it said it didn't have enough memory for the task.  So I read the new posts and tried to see if my content saved.  It saved my previous post to Graham and Sharon.  I am on my phone and cannot delete your blue bubbles. Very busy day ahead. Have a lovely Wednesday.  Nancy

Thank you Sandi, thank you Eva, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work.  And thank you everyone for being here!

Yesterday we received the new COVID booster in preparation for our Transatlantic in a little over a month. I felt headachy in the middle of the night and took Tylenol. Sue is feeling fine though, other than the injection site.

Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need.

Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, Eva, Ann, and Dixie for the FR&D   I like all 3 of today’s days.   Special prayers for Jacqui Ann, Pat, Terri, Jim,  Melissa, Chuck, Annie and Tana with  Annie and Chuck at the top of the list.

I always had a cluttered desk..

A day behind on port of the day days.  12 years ago today I disembarked Queen Mary 2 in Southampton and transferred to Dover to board Crystal Symphony back to New York on September 5.

A great day in history.

Possibly on the soup..  My alternative is on hiatus until late September.
.

Happy birthday to Sharon's mom.  A nice day with a chilly start.  Cardiology this afternoon..

Roy

Good luck at the cardiologist today Roy @rafinmd.

The local newspaper, for the few remaining subscribers to the print edition, is now delivered by the Post Office. In my neighborhood, this means that the so-called morning paper arrives around 4:00 p.m.

Lyndon Johnson is supposed to have said once that a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, and on another occasion that an empty desk is a sign of an empty mind.

I don't know what the soup would be like. A quick search suggests that there is no agreement on what a Bumblebee cocktail would be. For the wine, I'll counter with Dr. Frank's 2021 Saperavi, $29.99. "Vibrant violet in color with bright, brambly berry scents and a dusting of dried herbs. Supple and serious, the spicy fruitiness is rounded by layered complexity of earth and oak, but fresh and juicy simultaneously. An ancient grape variety native to Georgia that was first brought to the Finger Lakes by our founder in the early 1960s."

I think that I have been to Dover, Ohio.

The writer Adela Rogers St. Johns liked to refer to Los Angeles by its historical name, El Pueblo de Nuestra Seňora, la Reina de Los Angeles. This usage was preserved by the Queen of Angels hospital, founded in 1926 by Franciscan Sisters, until it merged with Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in 1989, forming Queen of Angels – Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.

I have a call in to the electric company about lack of 240-volt service. I noticed this yesterday evening, when I had to heat water on an induction unit to wash dishes. There seems to have been some overnight, and I was able to shower early this morning, but now nothing that requires 240 volts is working. I was told that they would be here in "a couple of hours."

HVAC is also not working right, but I think that this is because the thermostat is fried.

Good morning to all the Dailyites.

Thank you to Sandi @StLouisCruisers for filling in for Rich and thank you to Vanessa @JazzyV for your dedication to our cares and celebrations and not missing any of our events.

Thank you also to the F&B ladies Eva @superoma for filling in for Debbie, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard.

@Sharon in AZ Happy Birthday to your DM

Today we are having another Birthday celebration.  A friend whose birthday is next Sunday will meet us for lunch at the Crazy Crab on Hilton Head.  We had decided a while ago that we would have a joint celebration in the middle of the week.  She is exactly one week younger than I am.  So we will celebrate together.

Then DH and I will go over to Talbots since I need to return something I ordered.  Maybe I will find something else I like in its place.

Nothing else going on.

Hope it’s a great Wednesday for all.

God Bless,

Terri

Loving the cooler days!
I’m still glowing from our cruise and my birthday and I’m still getting emails and texts from friends, surprised they remember.  I guess repetition helps!

Praying for Amazing for Annie and Chuck!  And Roy and Ann’s appts today. And all our Care List, thank you Vanessa, and you too!  Did you ever get your radiator replaced?  You’ll be needing it soon enough!

Sue and Paul, may your utilities be restored quickly and completely!  Gosh, the water main issues are happening all over. And one keg of 240 going down sounds weird. Hope it’s a quick find and a simple fix.

Happy to hear of successes, improvements and those on the way to improvements.

Blessings to all in need of healing, comfort or hope!  Special thoughts to Jacqui.

🎉 Cheers to those celebrating, you remind us Life is Good🌈

Smooth travels to all away especially our long list of cruisers! 🛳️

Thanks all for being here, Sandi for keeping us going, all the wonderful photos posted!  You all bring beauty into my life every day!
Enjoy something today. Maureen

Thai green curry inspired vegetable soup

Thai Green Curry Soup - Gimme Some Oven

Quick, easy, very customizable. I never have green curry paste at home or coconut milk but would be easy enough to stock in the pantry

Good Morning from a sunny and warm day at the beach

No rain here. All around us but not a drop. Was out on the empty beach last evening and it was beautiful.

Waiting on a launch. It is a long window which is unusual.

Heading to a doctors appointment. You know all those things you put off until after the trip.. Well....

@Sharon in AZ  A very Happy Birthday to your Mom.

   Stay safe nd enjoy today

Good morning everyone.  Thanks for the daily report.  We had our first overnight guest over the weekend so I didn’t get to visit the daily much the past few days.  Three nice days to celebrate, double dessert, yes please!

In my case, relative to the quote, it would mean that I just cleaned it and it probably wouldn’t stay that way for long.

The meal and drink sound like they could be very tasty.

I haven’t been to today’s port but I think I’ve seen the white cliffs when coming out of the Chunnel from Paris.

Prayers for those on our prayer list today.  Cheers to those who are celebrating happy events!  Happy Birthday to @Sharon in AZ’s DM 🎂

Good, cool morning from central Texas.  It is cloudy and 72F with a 7mph wind from the NNE.  The humidity id 96% with a dew point of 71F.  The predicted high is 82.  It looks like we got some more rain overnight, but I have not checked the rain gauges yet.  The weather app says we'll be getting more rain from 10am through noon here.  Last night the rain was supposed to end about now, but that's how accurate the predictions are in Texas.  It also looks like the rain in Dallas will end about 1 to 2 pm.  I guess we'll be driving to UTSW in the rain.  I just hope it's not as heavy as it was yesterday in Cleburne.  It looks like today is the last day for rain for the week.  🤞

National wildlife day is a good day to celebrate.  We always enjoy seeing the local deer when we take our golf cart ride.  The other wildlife we see here are squirrels and crows.  Newspaper carriers play an important roll in distributing the news, and there are still some left.  Our local weekly arrives in our mailbox on Tuesdays.  I'm almost always will to eat an extra dessert, but try to stick to just one.

The quote is interesting.  Like @Mr. Boston I think it means I just finished a lot of paperwork and straightened my desk.

We'll pass on the meal and the wine.  I'll wait to see what a Bumblebee is before I decide.

We have been to Dover, both as a port and a disembarkation port.

A good day in history for Los Angles.

@Sharon in AZ  Sharon, please wish you amazing DM a VERY, VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY for us.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, it sounds like Brenda and Paul will be full-timers in their motor home for a while until they find the acreage they want and can build a house.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope all goes well for Chuck @catmando today with his scans.

@wdw1972  Sue, that is a long time to be without water.  I hope you had some notice before the water was turned off, and you could fill containers and bathtubs.

@rafinmd  Roy, I hope all goes well for you today at the cardiologist.

@cat shepard  Ann, I hope the dermatologist gives you the all clear.

@aliaschief  I hope all goes smoothly today as you and your family travel to Hawaii.

@kochleffel  Paul, I hope the power problem is nothing more serious than a bad circuit breaker.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, enjoy your joint birthday lunch with your friend.

@cunnorl  Charlene, I hope your doctors appointment is just routine with no surprises.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Wildlife needs to be protected so future generations can enjoy them, too.  We still have a newspaper carrier, but now it's a middle aged lady who delivers them in the wee hours of the morning (3-4AM).  I'd love to eat an extra dessert - who's serving?  The quote is good, but a judge I know who always had a ton of files on his desk had a sign on his wall that read: "A clean desk is the sign of a sick mind."

It's overcast this morning and doesn't look to be much better than that even later; right now we're sitting at 13C(55) and only an expected high of 20(68).  I've noticed it's much darker early in the morning compared to just a couple of weeks ago - fall is definitely coming.

@Sharon in AZHappy Birthday to your DM; you're so lucky to still have her in your life!

@marshhawksending good vibes for DH's PET scan today.

A busy day in the offing for us - first thing this morning is the cardiac rehab program, then will stop for some groceries on the way home.  This afternoon some of DH's retired colleagues (all but 1 who are women) will come over for snacks and a visit.  They're going to bring wine and munchies, we just have to provide the venue, but I'm going to make up a charcuterie board to have on hand as well.  Maybe I'll pick up something easy for dessert like frozen profiteroles and then I can have a second serving!

I'm looking forward to seeing what's in the Bumblebee cocktail, would like the wine, and think today's soup recipe would be a good one to make when it gets colder.   I'm sure with all the things we'll be nibbling on this afternoon that we won't be needing much for dinner, so I'm thinking we'll just enjoy the leftovers of the charcuterie board and some crudites on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain or in grief.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

We have been to Dover five times, four of which were BHBs and once was on Tahitian Princess.  The one time, on Noordam III in 2004, does not count as that was disembarkation day when we flew out of Gatwick.

Our first visit to Dover was in 2004 when it was also a port day for Noordam III, and IIRC, it was a turnaround day, too.  That day, we took the train into London, and took the Big Bus Ho-Ho around town.  The pictures from London that day and other of my London pictures were posted earlier, so I won't repeat them.  There are a few pictures I took of Dover as we sailed in and sailed out of port.

We saw this sailing ship as we entered the port area.

The lighthouse at the port entrance

Dover Castle which overlooks Dover.  If you look in the side of the hill below the castle, you can make out a couple of entrances to the tunnels below the castle.

Of course, the famous White Cliffs of Dover.

Our next visit to Dover was on Prinsendam in 2008.  We had a transfer to London booked, but the ship was very late docking.  It was extremely windy that day and the wind kept pushing us off the dock.  With the help of a tug or two, we finally docked an hour or two late.  We decided to stay in town and tour Dover Castle.  We then walked around town and took a local bus to Canterbury.  The pictures from Canterbury will be in a different post.  BTW, we took a shuttle to and from the castle.

Dover Castle has been used to defend Dover and England for centuries.  These two pictures show the contrast in firepower from many centuries ago and from WWII.

The tunnels under the castle have also been used for defense, especially during WWII.  We were able to go into a couple of tunnels.  This is the entrance to one.

When we were in Dover on Tahitian Princess in 2009, we did a tour into London, and I didn't get any good pictures of Dover from the bus.

The last time we were in Dover was in 2017 on the Prinsendam.  That day we rented a car and drove to Brighton and back along the coast.  We even stopped at the Chunnel, but did not have time to drive under the Channel and back.  These pictures were taken on our soggy walk to the car rental office.

The final picture was taken in 2008 from Dover Castle of our home away from home.  This was before they enclosed the back of the Lido and added the cabins above the MDR.

Canterbury is a very interesting town, and I wish we'd had more time to wander around.  The Cathedral was closed that morning for a ceremony, but was open by the time we arrived.

Good morning Dailyites from the beautiful Westerdam.

A cloudy start to the day with fog, but smooth seas.

Last night's dinner was lobster again. Allen had the cod and said it was good.

Today we sail the inside passage.

Prayers for all on Vanessa well kept list.

Happy Birthday's to Sharon's mom and Sandi's DD mom.

Thinking of Roy at his appt today as well as Ann and DH.

My sister had her drains removed yesterday and has her appt with the surgeon tomorrow. Hoping to get a surgery date early next week.

Prayers lifted to all our military, and those affected by war.

Blessings
