Royal to charge for main dining room?

Recommended Posts

I am nearly certain this is a mistake, however it's a rather interesting mistake. On my upcoming cruise (in 10 days), one floor of the main dining room is showing a $48.99 upcharge. I can't imagine how this error happened, unless perhaps they are toying with the idea of charging for the main dining room and somehow it got into the wild. Anyone heard anything about this?

Seeing some of the other dinning charges in the app, most likely what's going on is there's an upcharge event happening in MDR 4. My guess would be the Sip, Tour, Brunch offering.

I agree with this.  Look at the icon's for the various floors and you will see that it's different (shows a steak) for the one with the charge.

I saw that for my upcoming cruise, but -- at the same time -- I have reservations marked $0.00 ... it's a glitch.

I see no evidence they're moving towards charging for the MDR.  Just the usual fear-mongering.

Several cruise lines including Virgin, NCL, Cunard and P&O do for-fee dinner shows. So far Royal has only really dipped its toe in the water with Mystery Dinner Theater and Utopia’s Royal Railway, but I could see them going more in that direction.

Every once in a while a first timer will post that they are only going to eat in the buffet, because their booking says "add your dining packages to your cart".  Then others will ask if they have to pay for the buffet, too.

Odd way to go since more and more are not using the MDR anymore. I know we didn't use it all on our last cruise.

Eh, the place seems full every night.

They tried that a few years ago (charging for premium seats and VIP experience) it lasted about 6 weeks

They're kinda doing that now with reserved seating for The Key.  I went to a show by myself and thought I'd sit in the balcony -- once I arrived, I realized that's reserved for The Key.  Since it was all but empty, I decided to stay, and no one checked /noticed /cared.

The railway thing has my attention!  That's really unique.

Of course it is a mistake.   Do you really think they are charging for MDR dinner , and in only one dining room level?

Your post title does nothing but create panic and  worry.  You even  write in the first few words that it is likely a mistake.

It shows on the app for our upcoming, 11/10, cruise on the Voyager.  When you click on menu on deck 4 the regular menu appears and no charges.  My guess is that it's an IT mistake.
