Mrcar09 Posted January 10, 2019 #178 Share Posted January 10, 2019 Have there been any updated figures for the number of ill? Seems like the 2-3% we keep hearing must have seen a significant increase.

By not reporting your husband's sickness, the cabin steward will not know to put your linens and towels into hazmat bags to be cleaned with other infected laundry. The cabin steward will not put on a hazmat suite to clean your cabin as they do with infected cabins. Your cabin will not be on the list of cabins that need to be fogged prior to someone else occupying the infected cabin. You also should be quarantined as you are touching surfaces that have been contaminated. We were on a cruise with norovirus and every flat surface in our cabin was wiped down every day, because we were surrounded with quarantined cabins. Our walls were washed daily, cabinets, desk, anything and everything that they could reach. There was always a haze on mirrors and glass surfaces because the disinfectant needs to be left on the surface for a specific time for it to work. We came away from that cruise without every getting norovirus because our cabin steward did the best to keep us healthy. Report his illness for everyone's benefit. So agree to this, report it so cabin can be thoroughly cleaned and steward doesn't get sick.

NO rinse spray that KILLS NORO VIRUS. Although not recommended we spray our hands before beginning to eat, whether in the Windjammer or the MDR. Looked it up on Amazon. Pretty expensive. Is there a cheaper way to get it?

cruz4evr Posted January 10, 2019 #183 Share Posted January 10, 2019 We're on Oasis and the Captain informed us that due to the worsening of Norovirus cases, we will be missing Cozumel and are currently heading back to Port Canaveral. We will arrive Saturday, a day early. We will be getting a full cruise refund.
poncho1973 Posted January 10, 2019 #184 Share Posted January 10, 2019 This sounds like a wise decision, although it sucks for healthy people on the cruise. The poster that is hiding their husband's diagnosis is the sort of cruiser that I hope to never cross paths with. ME ME ME ME 1

BEENSAILING Posted January 10, 2019 #187 Share Posted January 10, 2019 By coming back a day early Royal can do a deep cleaning of the ship... but what do they actually do? toss out dishes and silverware? clean every public chair and table (theatre, casino, bars...)? I'm not doubting the list and thank you for posting but are Blondie, Dagwood, Boris, Buster and Milo really cleaning agents?

We just got a one quart bottle from Amazon. ( $17.08 ) We will only use about 7 or 8 ouncesm(in smaller spray bottles) on our cruise. The rest hangs out in the kitchen for counter tops and often the large bottle and sprayer goes to work at my wife's place of business.. I am disappointed in the exp. date on this bottle ( March 2019 ) but given the ingredients I trust the date is extremely conservative and will remain effective until it is gone. Rare nbsjcruiser Posted January 10, 2019 #195 Share Posted January 10, 2019 (edited) Update from my Son on the Oasis: Cruise is being cut short. They're supposed to be in Cozumel tomorrow but they're headed back to Port Canaveral now. Too many people on board are sick apparently. Everyone is getting a full refund. That's all I have for now. So they'll be back in port a day early. Edited January 10, 2019 by nbsjcruiser

I disagree - to me it sounds like a sweet deal for anybody who does not get sick...6 days at sea for free. Of course, I am retired and can easily drive to Florida ports, so if I had flights, time off from work, etc to consider, my attitude might be different.

We have experienced a late boarding due to extra sanitizing due to a NORO infection on the previous cruise a few times. You will probably see a slight white residue on just about everything that you could possibly touch or come in contact with. Dishes, flatware, pots, pans, serving trays, platters and all glassware that is washed commercially with the normal temperature, time and sanitizing chemicals is more than enough to kill Noro. I have seen staff with backpacks containing sanitizing solutions spraying all chairs in all venues. On two cruises the library had all books removed and the shelves were sprayed and the books held in quarantine. Pretty good compared to what airplanes, airports or hotels do to clean...
