CarolinaGirl2010 Posted January 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2018 I noticed on our last cruise on Oasis of the Seas that there was no thirteenth deck. I had never paid attention to that before. Is that normal for cruise ships?

Is that normal for cruise ships? It was not normal on RC ships until they had passenger stateroom decks that went up that high. For years they had a public deck 13, but removed it when it became all staterooms.

Is that normal for cruise ships? Their sister company, Celebrity does not have 13th floors on their ships fleet wide. Not uncommon both on land and at sea. navybankerteacher Posted January 17, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Cunard and NCL both seem to have no problem with 13th decks - about the only similarity shared by the two.

CruiserBruce Posted January 17, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 17, 2018 HAL doesn't have a 13th deck on their larger ships. Their smaller ships don't go that high.

Rare Keith1010 Posted January 17, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Some cruise lines do go with the 13th deck. Just don't book it on Friday the 13th. Keith

Rare Keith1010 Posted January 17, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 17, 2018 As long as I am cruising I am happy regardless of the number of the deck. Keith

jocap Posted January 17, 2018 #16 Share Posted January 17, 2018 I've been in a lift with a joker who asked for deck 13...the button pusher was still trying to work it out when the joker had already alighted (P&O)
Extra Kim Posted January 17, 2018 #17 Share Posted January 17, 2018 To me it's just stupid, it's not like the 13th deck isn't there just because you call it the 14th.
beachbum53 Posted January 17, 2018 #18 Share Posted January 17, 2018 It's funny how some consider "13" to be unlucky. Ask any 12 year old how they feel about turning 13, and most, if not all are excited about it. After all, it's their first year of officially being a teenager. Maybe that's how the whole thing started a long, long time ago. 13 is lucky for a 12 year old, but not so much for parents. Haoie Posted January 17, 2018 #19 Share Posted January 17, 2018 Why not 4? That's unlucky in many Asian cultures. It's all really silly.
dsrdsrdsr Posted January 17, 2018 #20 Share Posted January 17, 2018 I'm told it's because there were 13 at table at the Last Supper. Do hotels miss out the 13th floor because people genuinely don't like it, or is it just because two or three people have told them they don't like it and they panicked? Rare martincath Posted January 18, 2018 #21 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Condos here in Vancouver are even worse - many lack ANY floors with a 4 in them plus most skip the 13th, so ensure they won't miss out on potential sales to Asian & Western superstitious folks respectively. Elevators often run: G,1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,15 then skip 24, 34, and even the entire batch of 40s! I believes this is why the new Trump Tower has the highest floor number in the city going into the 60s but other buildings that are taller stop at 50ish... NantahalaCruiser Posted January 18, 2018 #22 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Have not noticed for other cruise lines, but Celebrity also has no cabins ending in the numbers 13. So for example the cabins go 8109, 8111, 8115
