Bringing the “2” bottles of wine onboard

Yea there’s a lot of self righteous people on here. I don’t understand bringing water on board. What’s wrong with the water from the tap?

I have been told by many that they don't want to drink "water from the tap" because it has been "recycled". The look you get when you explain that all water has been "recycled" countless times is priceless.

While I appreciate being able to bring 2 bottles of wine on board it lost some of its luster when they reinstated the corkage fee. We really only drink wine with dinner.

The prices for drinks are way to high IMHO. In Dallas we can get a martini for happy hour for $5.50. Of course that’s only a few places but still that’s where we go cause we won’t spend $12 on one. The drink packages are outrageous for those who only have 2-3 drinks a day. The drink cards are reasonable if the total with gratuity stays under $100 and we usually buy one unless they aren’t offered until really late in the cruise. Of course that’s still $10 per drink with gratuity which is still a lot.

We just drink less on the ships since prices have gone so high. We don’t fit into the mold of “hey we’re on vacation let’s drink up”. We skip wine with dinner now. We do buy a bottle for the room on the ships it’s offered and wish they had it on all ships. Can’t figure out why thats so exclusive.

I’m sure we are in the minority which is why RCCL pushes the prices so high and pushes the packages.

LOL...

RCI: Really Consistently Inconsistent.

I am, however, worried about the whiney complainers and the two bottle rule. It was not that long ago they started allowing us to bring on two bottles of wine per cabin. We really enjoy that perk. Let us not ruin that nice allowance people, lest they take it away again. :o

I agree. If we don't purchase the BP we always carry wine on. Plus having the "FREE" (hope Troy is listening ;p) diamond drinks each evening. I too Remember when we were not allowed to bring wine aboard. Glad RC finally allowed it. With some it's give an inch and they'll take a mile!

We are not alone in enjoying a glass of wine in our cabin, or in our case...on our balcony after coming back from the port, or even better.... during a lazy sea day afternoon.:wine-glass::wine-glass:

That is where our two bottles are fondly appreciated, which are now allowed to be brought on board. I would hate to see the cheaters and liars ruin that for the rest of us. :o

I swell enough on cruises -- desalinated water is something I pay to avoid whenever possible -- the coffee too. I'll do the water/coffee package on Celebrity ...talk about recycling ;p.

I'm with others in adding my 2 cents that the drink packages don't work for me -- it's rare I'll have more than 3 during the course of the day and I feel like most "bartenders" are glorified servers these days (with the exception of the martini bars).. The drink of the day is usually an undesirable or undrinkable sugar bomb. I take my chances with my bill and bring wine on board.

The one thing you learn from these forums is the different allowances and tolerances by different cruiselines. I've sailed 2 others where they could care less what you dragged on (even Seattle - woo hoo!).

You can avoid the ridiculous corkage fee by bringing a corkscrew on board with you (or buying wine with a twist top), asking for wine glasses from the nearest wine bar, filling your glass (to the brim if you like) in your cabin, and bringing the glass with you to dinner.

That’s how we drank using our FOUR bottles of wine for the week without paying their extortionist prices.

The visual I just had in my mind of a couple navigating the dining room, carefully balancing their "filled to the brim" wine glasses that they brought from their staterooms simply because they're too damn cheap to pay like everyone else absolutely made my day. Thank you for the entertainment. [emoji23]

Thanks! We did it while balancing a stroller. It was awesome. And I would substitute “smart” for “cheap.”

It’s always smart to save money where you can. You are right- it doesn’t make you cheap.

Cheap is taking sugar packet home from a restaurant, or a ziplock to a buffet. Smart is getting the best deal, saving money where you can. I am smart but not cheap. I won’t drive 4 miles to get “cheaper gas”. But I will buy things on sale.

So keep being smart and you’ll have money for college for that child in the stroller.

And if I really want a drink on board the ship I’ll get one. I just might get less because I don’t want to spend my money that way.

We did it all the time before we made diamond. Now we'll stop at one of the bars and get a drink using our diamond vouchers to take in the MDR in the evening. I have left the MDR to get two more glasses of wine to have with our meal. We still bring wine onboard when we don't purchase the BP and bring a glass of wine each in the MDR to have with lunch. I guess we are more coordinated then some as we've never spilled our drinks. You've never had a pre-diner drink in one of the lounges you didn't finish and bring it with you to finish in wherever you are dining?

I foresee them to slowly increase drink prices to push people to buy the package

Maybe, but from what I've seen on these forums, the package prices have also been creeping upward over the last few years. I'll keep checking the math for each cruise, but so far the package has never made sense for me.

My last cruise on the Freedom we brought 6 bottles of wine with us for our 3 cabins. I brought a corkscrew but sometimes we just wanted to take a bottle with us to Chops (or MDR or whatever). Our waiters very politely asked if we were aware of the corkage fee. We very politely replied that yes, we were aware and it was fine. Not once, no matter where we had that bottle opened, did the corkage fee ever actually make it onto our account. For me, I will continue to follow the rules...I find it works out for the best in the end anyway!

quote=TominNC;55415778]But there's no rule against bringing a drink or glass of wine into the dining room. So who's breaking a rule?

Exactly! Wait a minute, according to CruisingNole's opinion "you're

too damn cheap to pay like everyone else" if you walk in the dining venue carrying wine or whatever your drink of choice might be. But IMO I don't care what those kind of people think.

I think getting up during dinner to score a free $8 wine is cheap. Bring one in if you want.

We do and if we still have unused vouchers and want another drink during dinner I'm using them when we don't have the BP. I believe that's not being cheap!

Everyone is different - everyone has different values. I do like to save money where I can - £ saved is a pound earned etc.

That saving can be put to something else eg a trip, a nice meal or kept for another holiday. Its a personal decision, that people should be respected.

No one has any right to be critical of anyones choice, so long as rules are not being broken. Its the same with choosing a cabin - owners suite or inside on deck 2 - One choice but each choice has own values attached.

On the funny side - take cling film to top your wine glass that way filling to the brim without spillage! - I might do that.

I am considering the drinks package, however I am only on a 4 night cruise, we have 2 cabins and there are only 2 adults so in theory thats a bottlle of wine per night - however we do enjoy a drink or two in the day.

So have to take into all factors, plus we get off a 7 night cruise on the Sunday and board the 4 night on Monday - the 7 night as all drinks included.

I think I have just convinced myself not to spend the $53 a day plus tip

If you're walking around with a roll of saran rap in your pocket, be prepared for stares of disbelief.

Bummer for you.;p

We're early diners. But I have paid for drinks in the MDR even though I still had vouchers on my card. It might have been because we were in the back of the dining room, though. Still plenty of time to use them after dinner in the theater or casino.

Maybe that is my reasoning, I need a drink after dinner. Use it then

We are also early diners. MDR (MTD) table for two. Makes it a lot easier leaving and returning if I do. We have also on occasion used the vouchers for an after dinner drink in the Schooner Bar before heading to the theater. We like having the different options especially if we haven't purchased the BP.
