Bringing the “2” bottles of wine onboard

We are also early diners. MDR (MTD) table for two. Makes it a lot easier leaving and returning if I do. We have also on occasion used the vouchers for an after dinner drink in the Schooner Bar before heading to the theater. We like having the different options especially if we haven't purchased the BP.

I haven't been turned down yet getting a drink in the theater

Thanks! We did it while balancing a stroller. It was awesome. And I would substitute “smart” for “cheap.”

As a grandmother of two, ages 1 and a half and 4....GOD bless you for spending the (no doubt) hard-earned dough for the cost of your cruise while vacationing with your wee one....that alone deserves a free drink every day of your vacation...I agree with your need to be frugal (that's French for I seriously need a vacation but I don't want to get a second mortgage to do it) keeping in mind that you will continue to be nickel and dimed for extras that used to be free on Royal Caribbean)....Some interesting responses to your comments here...made for near-dramatic reading....(thought someone was going to challenge you to a duel there for a minute)....People act like they've never tried to save money before, for crying out loud....More importantly, Ive never been so impressed by the sheer number of do-gooders out there responding to your commentary...I'm in awe in fact....I, however, being human, applaud your efforts to save some bucks and would probably do, and have done the same.....and, yeah...I plan on flogging myself later for that faux pas..:)

You can avoid the ridiculous corkage fee by bringing a corkscrew on board with you (or buying wine with a twist top), asking for wine glasses from the nearest wine bar, filling your glass (to the brim if you like) in your cabin, and bringing the glass with you to dinner.

That’s how we drank using our FOUR bottles of wine for the week without paying their extortionist prices.

How did you end up with four free bottles?

I have not read every page of this thread in case this was covered and I do appreciate being allowed to bring 2 bottles of wine on board (see my user name) and every land restaurant that allows corkage. That said, if you PURCHASE a drink package which is unlimited drinks does bringing more wine on board affect them or is it figured you will just BUY more bottles at a discount? For example, Vegas casinos love that I bring my own bottle to a BJ table versus them buying my drinks and even pre 9/11 some airlines opened my bottle in first class as opposed to using their wine. Obviously if you were just looking to drink any glass they offered in MDR with a drink package for instance, would it not benefit a cruiseline to let you supply your own? So if you bought a drink package before cruise, why not allow extra bottles?

Because they don't.

While I see your point, I suspect it's a logistics thing. In theory they would have to spend time checking everyone who brings bottles to the MDR to see if they have a package or not.

John -

I don't understand your post. Why are you surprised that you have not been turned down "yet" ? Why even question it? You are ordering a drink in an allowable venue on ALL ships. As long as you are using the voucher within the prescribed time frame and for an allowable drink, the theater is ( and has always been) an allowable venue for voucher use. As well as the ice rink, aqua theater, pool, casino and most bars. As you know, some ships even include the dining room and other dining venues. In fact, the theater ( and other entertainment venues) were allowed from the very beginning of voucher use. That was the beauty of the voucher system when it was introduced. You could enjoy venues of the ship and use a drink voucher. The best of both worlds.

Enjoy

I recall someone said they were turned down. Just clarifying. 😁

Might have been another thread.

Thanks - Can't imagine being turned down at an allowable venue. Perhaps it was a non allowable time or drink.

We still attend some shows ( yes over and over again) and most always use a voucher in the main theater.

I like to get a drink in Blaze (voucher or overflow) before going to comedy club or Studio B.

I foresee them to slowly increase drink prices to push people to buy the package. My friend just got off Disney Dream (no drink package available) on Monday and she reported drink prices cheaper than Royal, more so around the $6-$7 price. I think that's the first time I've ever heard of any product sold by Disney being a "fair" price.

Having just spend the Xmas/New Year holiday in Orlando, that is amazing.

Considering at the parks, you will be $8 plus for a beer. And a, admittedly WONDERFUL, margarita at the restaurant in the Mexico pavilion in EPCOT going for $20.50.

I have been told by many that they don't want to drink "water from the tap" because it has been "recycled". The look you get when you explain that all water has been "recycled" countless times is priceless.

Funny, since the water on the ship is NOT recycled.

We are talking rent a cops, though.

Yeah, with big egos and visions of grandeur. I would never take the chance.

What if they asked to see their paper work showing just the one cabin when she lied telling them they had two cabins?:o Not worth it IMHO.

DH and I sailed oasis out of port canaveral with our 1 year old DD a couple months ago. I put 2 bottles of wine in my carryon and he put 2 bottles in his. We put the bags through the security machines and the attendant asked us how many staterooms we had. I told her 2.

Did I miss the post where she explained how they got to bring FOUR bottles of wine onboard.

Enquiring minds want to know!

Poster lied to security when asked about the four bottles.

I am guess that one reason is then you could easily bring in a bunch to give to others not buying the package.

Thanks for your support! The cruiselines can charge whatever they want and enforce whatever ridiculous rules they want and that doesn’t mean we need to submit to them.

So they can enforce whatever rules they want...but that doesn't mean you have to submit to them. Hmmmm. So, are these any and all rules or only rules that you yourself think are "ridiculous?"

Just trying to understand the thought process here.

You are perfectly free to vacation elsewhere. One of my pet peeves is people who think they are so special that rules can’t possibly pertain to them. Meanwhile, others suffer for their selfishness.
