How Security Handles Disruptive Passagers

Our first ever cruise in March was purely by chance, but before RCI tightened rules about someone in every cabin being over 25 unless married.

We usually board around 2pm when we know there won’t be lines. This cruise we got on to meet by young men in the elevator commenting on how drunk they already were or weren’t. That evening a young woman propositioned my DH all the way to our cabin deck, 10, while on the way for more drinks on the pool deck. Two days later after docking at our first port, we were on our balcony watching the first passengers disembark, when we noticed security escorting several young people and their luggage off the ship. This was re-acted in every port of that 7 night cruise.

Thankfully the OP met with security that realized she was was a mature lady just letting go a little too much rather than a kid on a lark on Daddy’s money!

Royal Caribbean allows anyone 21 or over to book a cabin, 18 if married. Carnival is 25.

Thanks for sharing. No judgement, but that kind of drunkenness - I would have reported as well.. for yours and others safety. I am glad you did not hurt yourself or anyone else.

Side note - on all of my cruises.. RCI is where I have seen the most drunken and disorderly behavior. Not CCL.

Oh wow, I’m sure a lot of us have horror stories that started out with drinking on an empty stomach. Been there, done that and kudos to you for being brutally honest! I think the great part is how remorseful you were to the crew, I cannot imagine the total idiots they have to deal with who would never admit they did anything wrong as in”do you know that I’m responsible for paying your salary as a paying customer?!”

I hope this is not often, one of the reasons we have not sailed cruise lines that have casinos. My husband was adopted and raised by two alcoholics. My rule is if you can’t make it two weeks without a drink, you have a problem. Moving to Texas two years ago feels like we’ve landed in the Wild West and I’m Caroline Ingall’s trying to make sense of it. Go to any restaurant at 11am-majority of tables have drinks. Parents take their teens to clubs that don’t check ID and buy them shots, all while the ‘cop’ watches and does nothing knowing they are underaged. How do I know? I had a long conversation with the receptionist at a man’s hair salon (saloon) who poured out her knowledge. My son starts his first job after graduating college tomorrow and this place was open on Sunday. Every customer gets two free shots (vodka/tequila/whiskey) and she said since I was there with him, I, too, could embibe for free. Where am I?? Kids tell me in the schools I sub, their parents drink everyday, tears in one kid’s eyes, another tells me he’s decided to stop drinking. He’s 14, started at 12...his parents provided it. Our family doesn’t drink..I might have had a glass of champagne 20 years ago, honestly bought it because I thought the flowers painted on it were beautiful and my Dh was graduating after working full time and raising a family. When I hear stories like this, it hurts...it just brings up all my Dh went through with his ‘letting loose’ parents who never told him they loved him and disinherited him when he refused to bring our kids over while they drank. I am so thankful you are safe. It took a lot of courage to share. I’m just hoping these events are the exception.

Thank you so much for sharing - as others have stated, it takes a lot of courage to publicly admit to mistakes and use them as teaching tools. I’m glad you’re safe and everything ended up working out for you! And kudos to the security for their efforts to keep you safe!

I have to give it to you. Your post sounds as crazy as those drunk scenes in the movie Hangover 1 & 2. Lucky thing you didn't puke all over the pool or hot tub with other people in it. That would have been the line of no return and the end of your cruise right there. Glad it all worked out with only a bruised ego in the end.

To the OP. Your displaying classic denial. You have blacked out while massively intoxicated. This story reads like a cry for help. Do yourself and family a favor, and please seek the help you most desperately need.

God bless

OP....thank you for sharing. Most of us commend you for your honesty and may actually help someone from being in this situation.

I totally agree she learned nothing and asked for her drinking privileges back. Denial. I agree I hope she finds the help she needs.

As stated before... judge much?

You know nothing about the OP other than what she wrote, which includes, "not a rowdy bunch." So, based on one episode one day you have determined she needs help and is in denial? What the.....

I've had times when I've had too much to drink and probably did some things that fall into the category of "epic". Doesn't mean I need help. Having another drink doesn't mean I'm in denial.

Just another example of why people are loathe to post things like this on CC.

Unlike others I do not believe your story was a cry for help at all! I believe it all started as a fun 4 days with your girlfriends and letting loose was in order. Most of us here have all had that one shot of tequila that sends you from "feeling no pain" to face planting on the table... Not many on this board can deny that. I'm glad you had the courage to step up to the plate and say "I did it and this was what they did to me..." It's easy for many to stand in judgement but I for one commend you. I don't drink much at all these days and it all goes back to a shot or two of tequila about 12 years ago that is etched in my memory forever. LOL

Being in your age group, late 30's, early 40's, I know plenty of ladies like you. I don't think you need help. What a bizzarre thread. We've all seen "Moms Gone Wild" on cruises. It happens. It's an abberation, not the norm. Cut OP a little slack here, jeez.

OP I get the girls gone wild weekend. Mother's and wives today have far more to juggle with kid's, work and taking care of the home than my mother ever did. My wife is one of those Super Heroes . The ones judging are probably from the generation of women who's toughest battle was combating waxy build up, ring around the collar and baking a moist cake.
