If you read the entire thread, you would see that many responses reflect that. But many (including me) feel that Edge is overpriced due to the fact that they can find lots of comparable choices at much lower prices on other mass market lines. When compared in that light, Edge is overpriced. That said, each of us decides what we consider overpriced based upon our personal circumstances.

I like how you put this and I agree completely.  For me, the Edge is WAY overpriced and I am in shock that people are willing to pay those amounts just for something new and different.  So from Celebrity's perspective, right now it is not overpriced.  For many of us long-time Celebrity loyalists, it is out of our league.  Could I afford it?  Yes (although that could mean fewer cruises) but with the great quality I can get with S or M class ships I don't see the need.  Honestly, from what I have seen of the pics I don't even like how it looks - but I acknowledge that I can't fairly judge it until I actually sail it.

We are booked on the Edge NYE cruise and prices for our infinity balcony have more than doubled. At the time we booked the prices, while not cheap, were more in line with what a holiday cruise normally goes for.  There is no way I would book at today’s prices, especially not a pricey holiday itinerary.  We have not booked any further Edge cruises as we are waiting to see how our experience goes and how much we like the new amenities. But if I had to guess,  I would say that we will like them very much. So more Edge cruises will likely be in our future. I will just have to be diligent in trying to find as much of a bargain as possible. Being in Florida, I am very interested to see how these high prices hold up close to sailing date and if there might be some last minute bargains or at least a bargain relative to the initial high prices.

I have a 9 day cruise in Dec 2019  for the ABC islands on the Silhoutte booked for$4600.  Out of curiosity I looked at the

same itinerary  on the Edge for Nov 2019 and found the price to be $9004.  Same type of cabin CC and GO BEST on both.

The question is what do I get for the extra $4000?  Any answers?  Thank you.

Preview cruised Dec. 1 On the Edge:

I would sail Silhouette over the Edge any day. Save your money.

Agreed, our closed loop Alaska cruise departed and returned to Seattle. The only "distant port" we visited was in Canada, where the ship stopped to satisfy that requirement, however passengers were not allowed to even disembark.

We did a similar cruise and passengers were allowed to disembark in Canada (Victoria).   Some said "good bye" to us  and headed to a hotel.  We went into the city.

We are not a distant port. We’re a foreign port. Big difference when it comes to the PVSA.

On a Celebrity cruise back in January, 2018 we booked an Infinite cabin on the Edge for March 10th (we really have always preferred Aqua because we enjoy Blu). We paid about &4,200. It is now over$6,000. I have cruised Celebrity 16 times and when I have booked Concierge we paid about $2,700. Looking out to the Edge for next winter the prices are outrageous. I cruised on the Reflection when it was new and the premium for a new ship wasn't that much more then an older ship. Same when the we cruised on the Century when it was new, but now to pay almost $8,000 for a regular cabin!! I love cruising and have loved Celebrity but increase is outrageous. I know it is a business and they will charge what traffic will bear but I suspect they will have to drop prices because many of their everyday customers won't or can't pay these prices when for the same money prople can go elsewhere. It is a shame, I fondly remember the Celebrity of old days when I felt like more that a customer. On the old Celebrity Meridian in 1996 Celebrity showed class it doesn't have today

On March 2017 we booked a C2 cabin which was then reclassified as  A1 with no charge to us for $3200 on the Edge.  The C2 cabin for our sailing currently is at $7000 without the insurance which is also included in the price of the cabin that we booked. As you said Edge is outrageously priced and we cannot afford it after this one as we cruise 2-3 times a year.  My cruises for the rest of the year are not with Celebrity, the Yacht Club experience on MSC I've booked for Christmas time next year is $5000 - less than a regular veranda room on the Edge during low season.

I booked the first Edge TA in an S1 suite and paid 10,400 for two for 15 days in April of 2019.  Then I booked a SV on Edge in Europe for 8,100 for two ...11 nights.  The S1 was 16,000 for two...This cruise is in 2020.  Do not know if I will keep it due to not knowing if I will even like her...interesting, to say the least.

TA...not overpriced; SV...yes!  I think they will go higher due to the IV’s...perception, IMHO, is also very important...and we are all different!

I've honestly never seen a brand new ship have such a price disparity over others. Is the Edge overpriced? You betcha!

I can go on the Seaside in a Yacht Club suite for the price of an Oceanview on the Edge. I'm willing to bet that within the next 3-4 months you'll see Celebrity substantially reduce pricing on the Edge. Everyone sailing now is doing so because of the hype but the prices are just outrageous! We're sailing on the Edge later on this month but only because we got a comp cabin thru the Casino. I'd never fork up that kind of money for a 7 night cruise. There's way better deals out there.

I would never fork up that kind of money for Edge either - when we booked 2 years ago, the prices were reasonable. I paid $4400 with vacation insurance, taxes, Gratuities, wifi, premium package and $400 OBC included for a C3 cabin.  The cabin was converted to an AQ  with no charge to us during build.  Now the same cabin is $8000 dollars with 3 perks and less OBC.  I paid that much for a suite on a 12 day Panama Canal cruise with NCL,  gratuities, premium package and $200 OBC included.  I would never pay $8000 for a 7 day Caribbean cruise in a regular cabin on Edge.

Agree 100% and the real question is not whether it is overpriced, but whether it provides value to the customer.  It doesn't to me now, but who knows.  In four years, when the novelty wears off and there are newer and better ships, they won't get premium pricing for that ship.  The real premium lines don't have to price by the ship.  They price by the product and I'll pay it for Azamara and even have one scheduled on Silversea.

Well stated! I don't care about the hype of a new ship. If the prices come back to the realm of my reality we'll sail it, if not we'll have a perfectly lovely time on other ships for half the money or twice the time.

I booked an E4 Cabin #6160, 11/15/19 nine night to ABC islands for $2189 per person in late November. This includes Classic drink pkg, pre-paid gratuities and OBC from my TA.  This price is still available for this category through my TA.  They do great volume with Celebrity and frequently have a block of cabins in a specific category for a reduced price.  If I had booked this cabin through Celebrity on the same day I made my booking, I would have paid an additional $110 pp.  I think CC rules are that I cannot mention the name of my agent.  However, it is a large internet cruise booking agency with the same initials as the site you are reading.

We booked on a charter for the Edge.  Out Balcony was only $1400pp

However, you did not mention so many things...company, kind of balcony(SV), how many days, where it is cruising etc...all of these play into price.

I think you might want to see if you can move. This cabin had a lifeboat davit that you might find an obstruction. You can see a similar cabin here ( see post #10). It is far enough in advance to find a cabin with out a davit that is an E4. Your TA should have a list of obstructed cabins.

Yep.  I mean is a Bentley SUV really worth $300k? Not to me, but evidently to some folks

Well, yes, there are better deals on other ships/lines out there... no doubt.

My thoughts include, better deals do not always mean a better product or better experience.

Enjoy your sailing and look forward to your review...

No, but being a better deal means that the difference does not justify the extra cost.

It's like that private airport suite at LAX, costing ~ USD7000 for 2 for a visit before your flight. Is it a better experience than the public lounge at the airport, for most? Sure.

Is it worth the extra USD7000 for most though? Far from it.

Just being a better product or experience doesn't justify any extra cost. That's what makes it the worse deal.

BINGO! It is a 'worse deal' for you and many of us can appreciate that, to be sure.

I think Celebrity has priced Edge, at least initially to be priced so they don't sell all their cabins.  I think they would be happy to be 80% capaciity which you don't normally see on other ships.  The reason why they have priced the fares so high is to work out the kinks while at the same time let people who want to be one of the early cruisers on the latest ships pay accordingly.  Apple to  a certain degree uses the same pricing philosophy when they introduce the latest iPhone.  The newest iPhones are priced high and they decrease the price of older models.

I checked the prices on the Edge sailing this Sunday and the fares are still where they were over a month ago.  No discounts to fill the remaining cabins.  There are 5 of the 6 Edge Villas still available...$35K each.....No discount to sell out the Villas.

Hey Bo --

I appreciate your posts and your somewhat sarcastic sense of humor, but you might think whether the tag line 'bon voyage' is appropriate when a post is somewhat negative – it just seems to pile on the sarcasm.

Just sayin' :classic_wink:

I think it may go deeper than that.  The basic mass-market cruise lines sell their cabins cheaply and make their profits with onboard nickel and diming.  While Celebrity has been accused of N&D lately, they are really operating on a different business plan because so many folks get free beverage packages.  So I wonder if they have done the math and calculated that sailing at 80% full without discounting is actually more profitable than 100% at any price?  I know that in 2016 our Med cruise on Connie allowed us to upgrade from AQ all the way to CS and still pay less than the initial AQ fare.  They announced after that that they were getting out of that game, and I think that's what we are now seeing.

Yes, I have heard that before, yet in all reality I do wish each of us a 'bon voyage' on which ever line (or none) they may ultimately choose for whatever reason to sail on.

i do try to not be sarcastic vs. emphasizing someones point as it applies to them and them only. Yes, there are times where I just cannot help myself, though... 😎

I got a big flame last year from someone who thought I was being a smart a** when I signed off with it, told them no way only wish them a good sailing on whichever line they choose to sail.

Thank you for your input on this jb..

I just keep sayin - bon voyage for one and all... regardless of ones line of choice.
