I sailed Dec. 1 preview cruise. I was booked on an April 7 seven-day but have since canceled it. I didn't care for the lack of variety in food offerings and for the lack of organized activities. We were not fans of the IV either.

The Edge was an OK ship but, for the price, there are other ships we like more.

The lack of activities, lack of library, lack of bars, lack of verandah size in the true verandah, (I won’t even consider the verandah-less verandah), the weirdness that is Eden, and mostly the relentless BOOM BOOM BOOM that accompanied all the music even the Christmas Carols, the dependence on an app which has incorrect information, all added together to make a thoroughly unpleasant cruise experience.  The innovations in the stateroom and the four dining rooms couldn’t overcome the ship’s design and programming deficiencies.

Met my expectations!

The longer I was aboard the Edge, the more she grew on me in terms of the novel spaces such as Eden, the Grand Plaza, & the rooftop garden. The Oceanview was designed beautifully with plenty of seating even at the most busy times. I loved the 4 MDR concept and enjoyed every one of them.

Prior to our 12/16 cruise I stopped reading posts about the Edge so as to avoid pre-judgment. But I'd already had an opinion of the flaws of the infinite veranda which did not suit me in terms of space and functionality.  Compared to S-class ships I felt our Edge cabin #7140 (bed by bath) was more functional with a great flow. Loved having a hair dryer in the bathroom and bedside outlets which worked perfectly for DH's CPAP (no more stumbling over an extension cord!)

Glad I'm in the minority. Celebrity found its target market with me and Im certainly not a millennial.

What is the target market..? Seems so hybrid..

We can't reply to the poll until we cruise in a few weeks.

So as of now 66% of cruisers felt their expectations were not met.

Yes its its a ridiculously small sample size so far. 😄

I'd be interested to read more comments on where the ship succeeded or failed to meet peoes expectations.

I had a hard time answering because the Edge exceeded my expectations in many ways, just met them in some ways and failed my expectations in others. It's all a balance and I will be going back in 2 weeks for what I expect to be 7 wonderful days. My eyes are open and I have lowered my expectations for some things, but there is still plenty for us to love.  We will be booking our next cruises on this cruise. Part way through we will decide whether to sail Edge/Apex again (in SV's most likely at the current prices) or go back to the S Class.

We love the beauty of the ship throughout, the outdoor spaces, the wonderful food (so many choices) and superb service. The quirky art, The Haunted Forest, the MC, the Faceless People, the serene RTG and Eden's lovely nooks inside and out just make me very happy to be onboard.

One potential deal breaker? I've known and worried about the lack of an Ensemble-type lounge on the Edge since I saw the plans many months ago. That is an important part of our cruise experience - music/cocktails in a lounge with cruise buddies in the late afternoon/evening. That desire wasn't met on our last Edge cruises, but they were all pre-inaugural cruises. We are ready to go back with an open mind and maybe have an equally wonderful, but different way to enjoy music/cocktails in the evening than in a smaller lounge (I don't think the Retreat Lounge will be the ticket - it doesn't sound like they are having musicians there much). We can entertain ourselves during the day and can be forgiving of a lack of activities during the day, but we really like good evening entertainment (in an inviting venue) so that may be the deal breaker for us.

We can't wait to go back in two weeks and have seven days to see what the Edge has to offer now that there have been several cruises - maybe she will exceed our expectations in the areas that are important to us and we will  book her again and if not, I'm sure she will be a good fit for others. 🙂

Glad someone started the poll as I did mention it a few times in previous posts (IT’s not my forte 🤭). Would have been nice to include an option for those that have not sailed on her if they would be inclined to (at current pricing), after reading the many posts and reviews here on CC - perhaps that’s for another time 😉.

I for one will be interested in the results once more votes have been placed.

vtcruising has a point.  I just couldn't choose.  The infinite veranda was adequate in size, if not experience.  The beds were fabulous and the storage adequate for our Dec. 16 sailing.  The plugs next to the bed were very useful to my husband, who sleeps with a C-PAP.  The charging station handled all our devices very well.

Quiet places to read were totally lacking for my husband and me.  After 3 days, we gave up and did the best we could.

As for me, my main problem was with the bars.  I don't drink much, but I do like to sit at the pool bar, sunset bar, and the casino bar.  I'm older and only 5' tall.  The pool bar itself was totally inaccessible to me.  They were SO tall!  There was no step around the bar and no support to shimmy up.  The bartenders joked with me that the stools were so tall, hardly anyone sat there!

The sunset bar was better,  although they were tall, there was a small bar to step on.  Once up, the seat could awkwardly adjust downward.

Finally, the casino bar.  For the first part of the cruise, the chairs were very high, very plush, and so wide that you couldn't shimmy between to sit.  In the end, I had to work VERY hard to pull the stool out, seat myself (with an assist from the step around the bar).  Just couldn't pull it back in without help.  Midway through, those stools were replaced with ones that were slightly smaller, but not small enough to overcome the pull, shimmy up, and sit far-far away from the poker game I wanted to play!

On the other hand, seating in all the MDR's was fantastic.  The chairs were comfortable and there was someone to push it into the table for me.  I never had to reach up to the table to eat my food, a common problem for me on land.

I don't jog, but I did walk the jogging path and found the layout interesting.  However, I spent way too much time watching out for and respecting joggers.

This ship was designed for form, not function in many ways.

Next cruise is the Reflection out of Barcelona later in 2019.

We are on The Edge at the moment.   I came with low expectations after reading many comments on Cruise Critic.  Sadly so many are correct.  The loud music is very annoying    We are in our 70s and do not enjoy boom boom music. Lack of activities is surprising   We have cruised many times with Cunard and Oceania both lines have many entertaining lecturers.  Yes we can read  but could do that at home.  Food is typical for a mass market ship.  Afternoon tea was disappointing. Celebrity always did a nice spread.  Yesterday I saw dozens of  donuts and cupcakes.  There were scones.  The decor is very nice and our cabin is quiet. Ship so far has less motion than any ship we have sailed    We have cruised over 30 times.   The Grand Plaza  is awful. Borderline dark and gloomy. No windows but many restaurants and bars and again loud music. We have never seen such a congested place.  I think the ship is suited to the under 50 age group. We will return back to the cruise lines more suited to us.  This was our 7th cruise with Celebrity and last.

I trust the balance of your sailing will be better and lead to greater satisfaction, generally.

Strange poll.  What if my expectations going in are negative and I have a crummy cruise.  Do I then say it Met my expectations?  Or if I had a great cruise then it did not meet my expectations?

Ditto and I would like to know the purpose of the poll??  Almost sounds it's being used for commercial purposes to make a point.

I don’t know the purpose of the poll, but I assume it is to allow the rest of us to learn something from those who have actually sailed on Edge. I haven’t met Mynki in person, but he has been a familiar presence on CC for some time. I doubt he has any commercial or otherwise nefarious motives for initiating this poll. Should the poll still exist in May, I will happily add my vote, and my reasons for that vote, to the data (post Edge cruise).

I would like to chime in here for those concerned about 'having the opposite' application of the terms for 'expectations' or lack thereof, one can always post here to either support or explain the rating.

As for M, he is a real stand up person and while I have yet to meet or sail with him and his family, our interaction over the last few years have been exemplary. Yes, we have disagreed from time to time, yet I do respect his positions (and tastes in beverages too).

He wants to get a gauge, or so I believe, from those who have sailed how they rate their experience(s), pure and simple.

As such, if one has/had 'low expectations' and that was met, then one can either comment or not and visa versa. He did not box any one answer in.. it is open for interpretation and explanation to set the readers expectations on the voters reasoning for the rating provided, if required or desired.

m - if I Am off base here, please let me know....

We sail Jan 27th and will be happy to express our views.  This and the cabin sticky thread started hy Vt cruiser should be very useful going forward as we  experience a new ship and  self proclaimed new direction for X.

I think the poll is a great idea..and relate "expectations"  language to the previous  X mantra..of exceeding expectations!

The problem with a poll like this is we don’t know who is voting.  Have all 36 replying to the poll actually been on the Edge or have some posted really negative comments without setting foot onboard?

We were on a short cruise on Edge in November and very much look forward to returning in 12 days.  Katie

Why would someone who has not been on the ship vote?  A better argument against it might be that only those who didn't enjoy it are motivated to vote.  Also, those in suites might enjoy it much more than others.

The voting seems consistent with the comments.

Because there are many posting over and over again about how bad the Edge is and have not stepped foot on nor have any plans to sail on this ship. I won’t name their names.  This poll is simply not scientific so we all need to take it with a grain of salt.  Kudos to those who have said they won’t vote until after their cruise.

Sad if anyone has, but you could also say that same argument in reverse: that some have voted it’s exceeded their expectations and haven’t yet set foot onboard (so that small minority should balance out).

Those who have commented that have not been in the Edge have never denied it. The vast majority that have posted negative or positive have cruised on the ship. You need to have a bit more faith that posters are being honest.

Not a scientific poll...just getting an idea on yay and nay...Did you like it, or not like it overall ?  Comments follow.. Poll helps  summarize all the random thoughts that have been posted..

For our AQ class cruise on the 27th, I will be comparing to  many past cruises in AQ class on M and S Class,  and my  positive  expectation that this should be a step up... ship, food, spa, overall program etc.

In the end each  person decides...

I'm been now asked a number of times on this board why this or that, and the poster admitted they are involved in the cruise industry, intimating they would use it for some relevant purpose.  Over the years I freely participated hoping to help others and be helped with our cruise travels.  My beef is I have eagerly gave advice to benefit and pay forward. and not to generate profit for others without compensation. I don't know the OP, nor am I making any accusation.  I just ask the question to see what others think .  Hundreds of Millions of others (not me) have been ripped off by the likes of Facebook,

I have not sailed on the Edge, however my wife and I have been sailing on Celebrity ships since 2001.

The one response choice in the original post "exceeded my expectations" reminds me of back when Celebrity did in fact Exceed One's Expectations.

From our experiences over the last 18-19 years, that degree of satisfaction can now only be approached if one cruises in the suite categories and even then it would only be coming close to what it was for ALL the passengers on Celebrity ships back then.

As time went by the little things, yes the little things do add up, slowly like the one pound can of coffee started to shrink away.

I think the word "exceeding"  might be fine for newer cruisers but for those who have experienced what Celebrity was like in the past maybe a term like "came close to what I expected" might be more appropriate.

IMHO
