suekel Posted February 18, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2019 Last month we had our first suite. As we were checking in, a gentleman came over and took our carry on bags and literally escorted us onto the ship, all the way to Club Class dining for lunch. Does this happen every time one has a suite or was this specific to San Francisco?

(Ft Lauderdale/LA/NY) Perhaps another for the list of cutbacks?

rkacruiser Posted February 19, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2019 Fort Lauderdale embarking Royal Princess in December: Embarkation had begun when I checked in as a Platinum guest. Very much to my surprise, after checking me in, the gentleman doing so, grabbed my carry-on, and escorted me through a separate door that directly put me into the line of guests embarking. I thanked him most genuinely!
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted February 19, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 19, 2019 This has never happened to me and I travel in (window) suites often. In fact, more the opposite. When I get on the elevator and ask for Fiesta Deck, I was told several times that there were no passenger staterooms on that deck.

RMMariner Posted February 19, 2019 #10 Share Posted February 19, 2019 Never been in a suite, so this has never happened to us. The last time we were in an inside cabin, a guy pointed us in the general direction of the MDR. 1

Rare donswife Posted February 20, 2019 #18 Share Posted February 20, 2019 We were escorted from check in in Fort Lauderdale for the Caribbean Princess. Because of the boarding delay due to Coast Guard inspection, there were hundreds of people waiting, and our guide took us through a special door to bypass most of the line. He stayed with us as we scanned our medallions and had our picture taken, and then attempted to find our cabin. His main job on the ship was bartender, and he had no idea about the window suites on Fiesta deck, so he learned something new from us (we had been in the same suite a couple years before). compozer Posted February 20, 2019 #19 Share Posted February 20, 2019 We had this happen in November on the Caribbean Princess. He had white gloves and a black suit that looked similar to a tux. I said "no thanks, we are ok" but he would not leave us alone. He carried our bags for us. So many people were staring at us that I wanted to grab my bag and run. 1

Yes, I still remember this from the "good old days". Now, if you are lucky, there is sometimes a crew member standing by to direct you to the elevator! We've been cruising a while also -- I'm sure Celebrity used to escort everyone to their cabins (and take their carry-on luggage), I don't recall Princess, we started with them a bit later. That was a couple of decades ago . It is a little remembered perk of by-gone days

One person was with you from when you boarded until you were in your cabin. Back then, Princess (somewhat the same) always had someone to "mother hen" you to the right elevator, get you on the right deck, and had someone there to walk you to your cabin helping with carry-ons and making sure you were inside without a problem. While we are fine now without all of this, do have to admit it was very nice!

Ep010835 Posted February 20, 2019 #25 Share Posted February 20, 2019 Last November in FLL a nice young lady escorted us aboard the CB. Last Sunday when we boarded the Grand in SFO a young man just appeared out of the blue and asked if we wanted an escort aboard. I replied, if it gets us on board faster, then yes. And away we went. Straight to CC dining for lunch.
