consig1 Posted April 26, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2019 Currently cruising on Brilliance of the Sea and I have been a long time fan of RCCL. Our cabin has dust and dirt everywhere from prior cruisers. There no longer seems to be any kind of luxary to our room or the ship in general. Everywhere I look there is rust. It seems to have become a party boat as all I could hear were several passengers screaming and partying by the spa as well as our neighbors at 2am.....not to mention the heavy smoked air throughout the ship.....I convinced my friend of how amazing RCCL is and it is her 1st time cruising with them. We are both GREATLY disappointed!!!!
ladytaekwondo Posted April 29, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2019 How many days was the cruise--yours and the one before? My DH and I will never book a 3 or 4 day ever again as it was a "hook-up fest" and the drinking was unbelievable as well as the behavior.
Sancho_proudfoot Posted April 29, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2019 We cruised the Baltic Sea on Brilliance last year and have to say that none of your comments resonate with us. Although a smaller, older ship than some RCL ships we have sailed on, we found nothing remotely approaching the issues you report.
Beachin2 Posted April 29, 2019 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2019 You booked a 4 night "party barge" cruise. What did you expect? Brought her back from Europe last fall and she was in fine shape then. The 3 and 4 night trips draw a different crowd and lots of wear and tear.

I have been on Brilliance for a four night, over spring break, and it was far from a party barge.
molly361 Posted April 29, 2019 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2019 We had a wonderful 5 night cruise on the BR last month. No complaints here

We are both GREATLY disappointed!!!! Wow. We were on the same cruise and had a totally different experience. Our room was immaculate (must be the attendant). We commented on how much we love the older ships because they have so much storage - so many shelves and such. We were surrounded by cabins full of children, but being the week after Easter, we totally expected that. The only place we experienced heavy smoke was in the casino. I didn't go in there often as a result. That is just my opinion. Not faulting your thoughts.
Rare vacationlover_mn Posted April 29, 2019 #8 Share Posted April 29, 2019 We loved Brilliance! But in all fairness, it was a few years ago...
dwhe Posted April 29, 2019 #9 Share Posted April 29, 2019 I'm on the Brilliance in a few weeks time, I'll dig this post up when I get back to see if I agree.
njkruzer Posted April 29, 2019 #10 Share Posted April 29, 2019 We were on her over New Years and loved her and had no problems, though I wish they would fix the pool tables. Heard that might not be possible as company who made them is out of business. Oh well.
LeeW Posted April 29, 2019 #11 Share Posted April 29, 2019 Five nights in November was fine for us. Only "issue" is don't get a cabin near the atrium, since a lot of the cruise events are held there. But noise pretty much was gone by 11.
blackshirt Posted April 29, 2019 #12 Share Posted April 29, 2019 Glad to see so far no one agrees with the OP since we’re boarding Brilliance this Saturday.

My issue was sickness. 2 cruises on Brilliance and one had noro and the other half the ship was coughing. We actually missed 2 ports due to being sick (flu like symptoms)
johnjen Posted April 30, 2019 #14 Share Posted April 30, 2019 We were on Brilliance two years ago and had a wonderful time. The ship was very clean, we were in the med. Most ships have some degree of rust; then again, this was two years back so perhaps things have changed. Good wait staff, clean ship, good food. Only thing we were disappointed in was the streaming internet and since I found myself standing in the complaint line much - we won't ever get internet again (at least in that part of the world). livylotte Posted April 30, 2019 #15 Share Posted April 30, 2019 I am sorry you are disappointed with Brilliance. We have booked a cruise on her next summer and are very much looking forward to it. First things first, I think you should go to Guest Services and complain about the dirty room - that is never acceptable. You can't guarantee if any particular itinerary is going attract the party crowd or not but I have found the shorter the cruise the more intense the partying. I think it's a mixture of bad luck and bad timing in your case. Finally, Brilliance - she is old but still beautiful. Cut her a bit of slack and go and sit at the back and enjoy that aft view. Guaranteed to make anyone smile 😎
ownedbypets Posted April 30, 2019 #16 Share Posted April 30, 2019 We have cruised on Brilliance quite a few times and have always been happy. We are booked for a seven day in November and I'm counting down!

Sancho_proudfoot Posted April 30, 2019 #18 Share Posted April 30, 2019 (edited) I would agree with @Johnjen's comment re: internet. We got VOOM as part of the sweetener package our TA put together. I am glad we didnt pay for it! We stopped trying to use it a few days into the cruise, when it disconnected all by itself for, quite literally, the 20th time in 4 minutes. MixerDave Posted April 30, 2019 #21 Share Posted April 30, 2019 1 minute ago, chawkjewel said: Like this? (From Sunday) We had the same view on an April 1st cruise on Brilliance out of Tampa. Our room was clean, our attendant was wonderful. Having cruised on Royal 7 times, we, along with our diamond friends declared this to be out last Royal cruise. They will switch to Celebrity, and we are trying Princess before we decide. The smoke that permeates from the casino into the Atrium was sickening. When leaving a show to go to the dining room, we found ourselves going up a deck so we did not have to go through the casino. The practice of handing you a dinner menu and having to order desert at the same time was odd. The time to get off the ship in Key West was a joke. People stood on deck five in the atrium, then had to walk down the stairs to get of the ship. Our cabin steward accidentally broke a chain on a necklace my wife had. He told us, and reported it to his superior. The boss took the chain to the shipboard shop to see if they could replace it. Their answer was :no, because this chain was real gold". They did give us a generous shipboard credit, which covered all our charges for the trip. Still, overall we were disappointed in Royal and the Brilliance.

livylotte Posted April 30, 2019 #24 Share Posted April 30, 2019 Do have to agree about the casino smoke. That would be the only downside for me but you can always avoid it by going the long way round or walk fast and try not to breathe 😶

Done multiple 13niters and 5 nites on Brilliance, average age of passengers are older on longer sailings but Brilliance is no more party boat longer/shorter cruise. Looking forward to sailing Brilliance next Apr/May doing 5/4/5/15 niters, all with great view from my Aft/Corner cabin...
