Free Movies Returning

Too little, too late. Last night we had dinner with friends who cruised last week.  They are elite plus. We are too. They told us about the cut of free movies. They were angry. No way would they do a cruise with several sea days. They like watching movies. They also told us that there were long waits using beepers at dinner. Too many changes are pushing former loyal guests to seek other cruise options. Each change whether a cutback or a reinstatement sends a message. It says that the cruise line is changing and you shouldn't expect the same product as on previous cruises.  It may just be what Celebrity means by a Revolution. For me, it means unreliability.

We don't watch movies on board but for those who enjoy them this is good news. It's also a positive step showing Celebrity does listen to feedback.

We too don’t watch the movies on our cruise as a rule, but I know when we cruised with the kids the movies were a godsend! Agree it’s good knowing Celebrity listen, I’m happy for everyone who would of missed their movies. Dianne

Another perspective about why movies.  We have been cruising since 1986.    We are Floridians since 1992 and gladly fill up space when they need us . With that said, we’ve been there, done that, seen most shows and entertainers. We have gone on a 94 day world cruise and soon will do a 111 world day.  That’s where our adventure is.

We enjoy cruising so much and happily board to enjoy having our room picked up, no cooking, get off grandma on call duty and regroup.  we enjoy lying around like we are at home and appreciate good tv and movies... princess fits that bill.  We just got off Harmony a 7 day cruise extended to 11.  We are doing a b2b at thanksgiving and the grandkids in spring break they prefer the oasis class ships.  Now I wish royal Caribbean would improve their tv...the kids stations and ad movies as well.

Thank you all who sent an email to celebrity.

I love all home comforts on a cruise, yes, I love the ship and all the beautiful areas to socialise etc, but on holiday I also like to kick back for an hour or so once in a while and watch a movie, (in bed, with a nice cup of English tea actually!) So hoorah to the people that made this happen, thank you!

So this means I will be sitting in my room watching movies yeh!  No need to see the ship, live music, socialize, enjoy the views of the ocean any more, go to talks, try new foods, drinks etc.  I'm in it for the movies!

I'm glad you know why or what everyone likes to do on vacation.

Seems like what many large corporations do these days.

Treat the clients like lab rats and see just how much they can take before they start jumping around on the hot plate..

"Just Saying"  One needs something "revolting" to happen to engender a "Revolution".  🤔

Now let's bring back the daily morning paper that was always available at Guest Services every Morning. Always enjoyed my coffee at Cafe Al Bacio with the paper. Just a very small thing that brought me so much pleasure. I will gladly pay a little more for it's return. It is just the little things that bring so much pleasure in life.

Well I have admit that X listened!!  Today I actually got a personal phone call direct from X thanking me for my feedback regarding the removal of the free movies.  I had previously received an email thanking me but the phone call was the topper.

I expressed our thanks as we have 24 days of cruising coming up with a B2B, and there are some nights where the entertainment is "been there, done that" and a nice evening in watching a movie is very relaxing.  Just like we do at home sometimes on TV or at the movie theater.

Just hope that they will offer some a bit newer than what was available last month!  We will take what we can get

When did this stop? It was still available last year.

I cruised on the Royal Princess back in April to ports that I had been two many times before. I booked the cruise solely to de-stress from work. I enjoyed seeing and doing things on the ship. It is lovely! But I did spend a lot of time on my balcony reading or catching up on a lot of movies that I missed in the theater due to my crazy work schedule. So you don't have to be sick, injured or baby sitting to also enjoy some quiet down time watching a good movie that just left the theaters. Not sure if Celebrity's are real current but Princess had a huge selection.

I will be on the Infinity in January with a group so probably won't get much quiet or down time. But then who knows.

Last December on the Reflection. I talked to the Cruise Director one night, and he said between the TV and Smart Phone Celebrity felt like you could get all the news you wanted. They looked at it as a cost  that could be cut  due to I suppose the news source contractor and paper. I will miss it and I told him and Guest Relations I would gladly pay a little more to have it every morning,.

They never started the tradition on the Edge in December. They said it was part of their initiative to decrease waste - they also didn't print the Officers sheet (it's on the TV) and at first didn't have extra copies of the dailies in GS. I asked for one (my DH had ours and I didn't trust the app completely) and the GS person dug her one copy out for me. By the time January came around they had some copies in GS. They still didn't have the news sheets. I missed those as well.

How disappointing. At home, I get all the news I want electronically, but l still subscribe to a print newspaper to read at breakfast, a habit developed decades ago.

On HAL, the printed versions are still available, but are now available electronically on the HAL website as well, even if you don't have an Internet subscription. Is the e-version available on Celebrity without a package?

Thanks. Looks like another fleet-wide cut.

I’m onboard also. Go to video on demand, free, scroll over past all the safety videos and you will start to see the free titles!  Hope that works

Does anyone know many free movies are on the Equinox right now (and what are they)? Thanks!!

So, some of the movies are free( Dumbo) and some are still 15.00( Aquaman).

Both of these are  now playing on SW Air..included..no upcharge.

Heads up to parents... watch DUMBO on our recent SW flight til the  wi fi cut out .  It is not something I would show to young children..some very dark and violent scenes that look diff in a movie compared to the orig cartoon. Movie was well done..maybe I can see the rest of it on our flt home  ..

Very pleased to hear this!

I had only just read that Celebrity had started charging for movies, cross and disappointed, and lo and behold, they have reversed that decision.

thanks to all who complained.

The effect of this sort of penny pinching reflects very badly on the company.

Im sure that most passengers will continue to socialise around the ship, and spend money, but it seemed particularly callous and conniving to deprive those of us who enjoy the occasional quiet couple of hours in the cabin.

the availability of very recent movies, and the excellent system where one can start and stop the movie at will, was certainly a big plus on Celebrity.

Some other lines had a useless system, where it was virtually impossible to find out what was on, when, and if you wanted to see a particular movie, you had to watch from start to finish.

Did Celebrity actually check with customers and potential customers what impact this cost generating scheme would have, in terms of perceived value to guests?

my opinion of Celebrity plummeted when I read of the introduction of the charges. I am very pleased it has been reversed, but the damage has been done.
