What is celebrity like , will we be bored?

Hi, I’m from u.k just joined, was looking for info on celebrity apex, been on rci and po before  loved rci for entertainment and food options, not keen on po too old mostly the other cruisers and boring entertainment and food options, 

looking at the new apex how would you describe celebrity to other cruise lines is entertainment good, food looks good on here so not too worried on that but would it be more geared up to an older crowd

would be for a 42 year old and 23 yr son

Yes you will enjoy Celebrity ships, plenty to do and the food is very good, book a cruise and enjoy.

APEX will be state of the art in design and technology..great theater, excellent food, lots to do around the ship.

If you are looking for an upscale ambiance and good quality, you‘ll love Apex and Celebrity.

 

If you are looking for amusement park style entertainment as can be found on the larger Royal Caribbean ships, you might be bored.

 

We moved from Royal to Celebrity many years ago and never went back because we prefer the laid back atmosphere without all the bells and whistles but more sophisticated feeling.

I find Celebrity’s “entertainment” unappealing. On my first cruise, a couple of years ago, I watched a production show that was comically bad, and I haven’t been back to the theater for a show since. The live music in the common areas and the organized activities don’t do anything for me; I mostly try to get away from them to find quiet spaces. If I were looking to Celebrity to entertain me, I would be disappointed. 
 

That said, I’m not bored on Celebrity. I sail with books, games, my iPad, and a friend I enjoy spending time with. I like the pools, the bars, and the casinos on the ships. I think whether you’re bored depends on what you like and what you expect to the cruise line to do to entertain you.

My husband and I still talk about the incredible fun we had on a RCI (Allure), there was never a dull moment. 

But having said that Celebrity is our cruise line of choice, for its service, food and overall ambiance (as Miaminice said), not sure about Apex but if you are looking for tons of fun activities all day, Celebrity may not be for you.

If we want a cruise with a focus on entertainment and activities we choose RC...For good food and restful ambience we choose Celebrity. 

 

There is a 4 night Apex cruise from Southampton (I think in April) could be a good try out to see if there is enough to keep you both busy!

To me Apex looks very like Quantum class with that huge back lounge for entertaiment and the smaller dining room set up.

Personally as I love Quantum class I am looking forward to Apex.

The atmosphere on Celebrity is dignified, refined, elegant. There is entertainment, but not as much as on some of the other lines. Music plays around the ship, but whether it's your personal style varies and dictates how much you enjoy it. Nothing like rock climbing or ice shows or parades is offered. There are not a lot of poolside activities.  Ambiance is sort of like a country club instead of a night club. Food is very good, service is usually excellent. Age of the passengers varies from cruise to cruise, but it's generally not a senior demographic. We love Celebrity, it suits us, but we're not really looking to be entertained. It's not for everyone, however.

That is too bad about the entertainment.  We have been lucky to have enjoyed several talented group.  One that impressed me greatly on the Reflection was a trio of men I would guess to be in their 20's.  All Motown hits sung with such beautiful voices.  We got to meet the gentlemen early the next day.  The nicest guys ever.  I am hoping they are back on the Reflection when we cruise in March.

Where are you looking to cruise?  How long a cruise?

 

Shorter cruises have a younger crowd (relatively) and longer (10+ days) have a significantly more mature crowd (not HAL old).

 

The food is better than RCI, IMHO.

 

Entertainment is not better for the most part.  We do enjoy some of the entertainers more than the production shows.

 

Celebrity is our go to cruise line, as it feels a step up from RCI, and more quiet spaces and relaxing.  FYI, there is still chair hogging on Celebrity.

This is key. Our last couple of week-long Caribbean cruises (2016, 2018) on S-class were a young-ish crowd with many people around our age (early-mid 40s), and the dance club was hopping every single night. However, our longer S-class cruises have averaged older and there is definitely less evening action when that happens. Also, our May 2019 Bermuda cruise on Summit was a MUCH older crowd and the entire ship was dead by 10pm each night. M-class ships have fewer entertainment options in general so it made for a somewhat boring cruise, IMO, and I wouldn't choose an M-class ship again.

Bermuda cruise in May will have older crowd but weather can be iffy.  Mid June until Sept will be totally different demographic, lots of families and all ages.

For me it depends on the itinerary. My family and I did a 12 day med cruise on the Equinox a few years ago and it was fantastic - the best cruise I have ever been on. The ship was beautiful and the service and food were wonderful - we were in Aqua class. It  was very port intensive so we only had two sea days and they were welcome down time. We just got off the Silhouette (the first trip after dry dock!) which was a 9 day southern Caribbean with 3 sea days (two at the beginning) and I found it a bit boring. Again - we were in Aqua class - I think the food and service in Blu were again excellent - but there isn't much beyond the pools which were very crowded and the bars. There is no sport court or outdoor areas where you can do many activities and the indoor activities are just not for me.

Exactly. Which ship, where to, what time of year and how long a cruise are all extremely important factors in determining what the general atmosphere of the crowd will be like on Celebrity. Probably on other lines too, although I would guess that ships with a lot of entertainment and activities (waterslides, wave riders, rock walls, etc.) always tend to draw a younger, more active, more family-oriented crowd.

I believe only you can tell if you would be bored.    There are about 1/2 dozen activities every hour if you choose.   

 

Personally I have never been bored and find more than enough to keep me entertained or just relaxing.   You will have more of a tendency to be bored on a relocation cruise with few ports instead of a port intensive cruise where you may find yourself worn out and looking for some downtime.

We've done Bermuda in the Spring, summer and fall on Celebrity. The summer is loaded with families even without water slides, etc.

4 days is a short time... you will hardly be able to take everything in, esp on APEX. Not sure how you could be bored ??? what are you looking for??

We just got off the Edge, and while the Apex is still speculation only, we found the food to be a little better than other Celeb ships and the entertainment to be significantly better than other Celeb ships.

It is NOT RCL, but does good things to offer, and the Edge is definitely trying to reach out to younger cruisers.

 

The only caveat I would give is to get out and explore the entire ship as soon as you get there and peruse the daily planner carefully- we were uncovering activities and entertainment that we would have liked to sample on the last day. This is powerful praise from non-joiners who up until the Edge had rarely gone to any cruise ship shows or activities.

Get a premium drink pkg and make it your mission to have one specialty cocktail in each bar - that’s great entertainment!

I’m not trying to discourage you, because a preview cruise would be neat, but I would not let a negative experience on that type of trip, define what you think about any cruise line. The shakedown cruise might be very different than the regular product, just saying.

Celebrity is a class cruise line.  It is the best or one of the best for dining.  Entertainment is reasonably good, but not as good as Royal Caribbean.

It is our first choice for a cruise line, second being Royal Caribbean and next NCL.

 

Longer cruises, 10-14 days or more tend to have older passengers.  Short cruises have more young people.

Most Celebrity cruisers are well traveled and tend to dress up a bit more and not subject to rude or crude behavior.

I was about to reply saying that I think you and your 23 year old son will likely be bored. The average passenger age on Celebrity is approx 60. It is true that some shorter cruises at certain times attract a younger crowd but you'd still easily be amongst the youngest onboard. 

Celebrity is not known for quality entertainment and is certainly not in the same league as RCL. However f it's just for four nights there will be enough to keep you entertained I would have thought as you'll only just learn your way around the ship in that time I would have thought.

I guess we're easily entertained as we never get bored on any of our cruises. And we aren't sea day fans.
