Royal Caribbean suspends all cruising in US

Equinox sailing from FL on 4/21 is operational.  Appears to allow bookings.

Apparently the TA don't even have details, sounds like they rushed the PR out.  My TA just said as I typed this, no official details as of yet. So who knows.

Wouldn't bet money shutdown only lasts 30 days.   Let's just hope and pray.

So would the ships cross on their TA's as planned?  Our Infinity cruise was supposed to embark April 11th..just shy of the 30 days.  The sailing after ours was the TA.  I'm wondering if they will revamp the itineraries and maybe even delay a crossing.  I would be on board, so to speak if Celebrity said our cruise was just pushed back a few days but was still on after the travel hiatus period has ended. So maybe we embark on the 13th instead of the 11th...who knows...after all this RCL may opt for an additional 30 days.

So sorry to hear this. Hope all works out to get home quickly and safely. I understand the situation right now but IMHO this was a horrible way to handle it.

I have a friend who is a TA. She knew nothing about it and when she checked Cruising Power nothing was on the site. This was after I sent her the press release.

It really would have been wise for the press release to say that they were shutting down cruising in the US on all lines, and listing the date they anticipate returning to cruising. 

 

That would have eliminated many of the questions posed here.

 

Princess did an exemplary job with their announcement yesterday, including the video, the clear charts regarding compensation, FAQs, etc. 

 

I empathize with those upset and confused.

 

Between this and Canada shutting down until July 1, we've lost our next five cruises. Many people have lost so much more.

A couple of points I made in my post was that the release had numerous rookie mistakes and that maybe someone got ahold of an early draft and accidentally hit send. 

 

Anytime a release is sent out out, there needs to be a Q&A that goes along with it anticipating as many possible questions that the release creates.

 

Never rush a Press Release!!!

 

OMG, of course it changes the reality. If I’m driving down I-95 in South Carolina and my wife tells me th Cruise is cancelled, I’m getting off the next exit and heading home. If I’m in the airport waiting area before getting on my plane and I read my cruise is cancelled, I’m not getting on the plane. You say never rush a press release, that may be true in most cases but not in this case. They did the right thing, at least they were thinking of their customers which I can’t say some you are doing. There is absolutely nothing lost by what they did.

 

i do agree they should have put on the press release that it covered all their lines as many don’t know the difference between the cruise line and the corporation.

 just checked my April 21 cruise. It is still available but the other cruises on the Equinox to the Caribbean prior to mine have now been removed. 

Less than an hour ago they were listed but with no rooms available.

Maybe because we're in a worldwide pandemic which is the reason why they cancelled all those other cruises for 30 days. Does Reflection sail within a magic bubble that protects it in a way that the Summit or Equinox leaving in the next couple days are not? It looks bad optically and makes zero sense.

I can't imagine any island allowing a US departed ship into their port right now.
 

One of our Australian Federal Politicians has now tested positive after returning from US a couple of days ago. He met with Ivanka Trump while he was there on 5th March, and the Attorney General. Tested positive on the 12th after being unwell the day before.

You can book Shilouette TAtlantic sailing on the 17th a few minutes ago.

I feel like this was a result of the State of Emergency announcement and this ultimately was not their plan. However, I do trust Celebrity to get the right information to the right people in due time. Regardless of how another line handled it, you'll get the information you want eventually.

The Transatlantic leaves from a US port, but is more than 30 days away.  However, there is no way it is going to actually take place on April 17.

My TA just said Royal will resume operations April 11th but she still hasn’t received anything as to what cruises are canceled as of yet,  sounds like they are in the dark also.
