Several years ago there was a guy high on meth, 2 days out on parole, who car jacked a person in town at 2 a.m.  He proceeded to wreck the car into a tree in front of my friend's house which was located 10 min. from town.  The police came, could not find the driver and towed the car away.  At 7 a.m. the guy woke up from wherever he had passed out and started to bang on my friend's door.  She did not open the door and called the cops after getting her gun from the bedside table.  The guy then came around to the back porch which was all windows and a door leading into her kitchen.  He was yelling at her and breaking the glass on the windows and door, she had set the gun on the counter on speaker so the police and he could hear her tell them that if he came inside she would shoot him.  He stopped cleaning the glass from around a window he had broken and wandered over to the neighbor's house to try to break their windows.  The sheriffs arrived, took him into custody, put him in the back of the car.  While they were talking with my friend he somehow got into the front of the car and tried to drive off.  Having all the deputies pointing guns at him convinced him to stop and they took him off to jail.  6 months later he learned he would have 25 years of 3 hots and a cot.  My friend is notified every time he comes up for parole and so far he is still incarcerated.

That is frightening.

We were very lucky that he headed up the road to escape, rather than straight into our yard and banging on the front door.

Two policemen remained in our driveway watching over the car until the tow truck arrived.

It’s almost midnight on a Sat night in our usually very quiet suburb and this just happened - short version - male driver high on meth & ice - crashed his car into the telegraph  pole out the front of our house - got out of the car and staggered up the road.  Resisted arrest and got tazered.  He is currently surrounded by four police while they wait for the ambulance.

His smashed up car is littered with drugs….

I hate that people like this are on our roads.

That's horrible.   At least he only hit a pole and not a person.   Hopefully he gets the help he needs to get over his drug addiction.

I was in 2 Broadway, such fun times!

okay, dryer is fixed, 130.00, new rollers.  He said dryer was In good shape otherwise, didn’t push for a new one as he said they are all garbage now🥴. Couldn’t believe he showed up at 8:45!!!! And he cleaned out the dryer vent and tubing, so relieved.  Now poor Charlie is off to the de twist for emergency work, it never ends.  At least I can do laundry😃

Hope all goes well for Charlie at the Dentist.  Please let him know I am thinking of him and sending a hug🥰

Great news about dryer.

Ok, Samsung users, are you having any problems using the Samsung browser on this site? I cannot quote anyone using the browser but I can using Chrome. I don't know if the issue is with CC or with the recent Android update. I prefer using the Samsung browser on this site as I can get dark mode whereas I can't using Chrome.

I am not having any problems using the Samsung browser.   When did you have an Android update?  I just checked my update status.   It said I was up to date but said last updated 9/30.

It is already 61° this morning, and will be in the 70’s today for playoff football for our grandson’s team.

Had to buy an actual newspaper yesterday, because our granddaughter’s picture was in it, in her cheerleading outfit.  We have had only digital subscriptions for years now.

How cool, and special, that your granddaughter's picture made the newspaper!!  She must be so excited!!!!😊

Happiness is having a working dryer!!  I'm glad it was fixed and tubing and vent cleaned out.  Great news!

I worked in 2 Broadway right after Graduation, back in 1966.  I worked for Moore-McCormack Lines (the Lobby had one of our cruise ships in a case there...the ships were the Argentina and the Brazil, if I remember right).  I may have mentioned at another time, that my Dad had helped to build 2 Broadway.

I then moved to Ft. Lauderdale with  2 of my girlfriends, and from there I traveled to Monterey, California and stayed with family friends, until I could meet up with my brother in San Diego, where he was stationed with the Navy.  All leave got canceled, so I came back to NY, where I began working on Park Avenue, as an Executive Secretary.  As I mentioned yesterday, after my boss passed away, I began working downtown again, for White and Case, which if I remember right, was on Maiden Lane.

1) No it's not, because his only aim is to void his trial. That's why he took the whole country to 5 rounds of elections, and this time he sadly succeeded.....

2) He is, for almost a year now, under trial on 3 counts of corruption and other 2 which I don't know how to translate... His wife was convicted 3 years ago for maltreatment of cleaning ladies working at their official residence. And, sadly, our "forefathers" didn't even envision that someone under trial will try [and succeed] to be PM, so there we are.... No law against it. 😢 😢 😢

Yes, it is. After the last 2 rounds of hostilities, I've spoken openly on this thread about me being "too old" to run to the shelter every time... The question is where... and at our age, having a good "state" and private medical insurance is a huge consideration.

Until this change of "climate", my boys wouldn't even consider "moving countries". They both served their compulsory army service to the best of their abilities, being combatants and the elder one finishing as a lieutenant. And continuing to serve a month a year as reservists.

This week is the first time that my married son, with 2 young kids, told me that they fear for the future and would like to leave. He's a lawyer with an MA degree, studying now for his Ph.D. in law, so may be with his future credentials, he could find an academic position "elsewhere". My DIL is a clinical social worker with an MA degree. Meantime, their profession is not suitable for "relocation".

I feel for you. It must be frustrating. I feel the same way sometimes about where I live. I am thinking of you and hoping things get better.

Big night tonight as I will be attending the Kansas City Whiskey Expo at Harrahs Casino.

With over 90 venders and distilleries we will meet master distillers, master blenders, brand managers, and many other industry professionals from local, national, and international distilleries who will share their knowledge about their products. We will get to taste small batch, blended, straight, aged, single malt, single grain, cask strength, finished, wheated, peated, bourbon, and rye whiskies as you learn about what gives them their definition.

Linda is going with me even though she does not care for bourbon but there is beer, wine and cocktails available too with appetizers. We reserved a room for the night since after all that tasting I don't want to drive. Here's the list. I paid for the VIP so I can taste some of the higher end products. Should be a lot of fun. I just need to pace myself for this one.

My first job as I said was 1 broadway, it was with U S Lines, which owned a couple cruise ships including the famous SS United States , heard many stories on other workers sailing her , I was just 17 when I started in 1968, first cruise was not till 1975.

Wow Greg.  Very smart move getting the hotel room.  The VIP list alone could be deadly.  If you want to deviate from Whiskey, try the Appleton Estate 15 year rum.  I've been using the 8 year in drinks and it's really good.  Never had the 15 year though.  You'll have a hard enough timing pacing yourself though with just whiskey.

Wow,by 1966 I had 5 different jobs .My first was in a place you may have heard of Staten Island .Over the years I worked in every borough .My last job was in 2004 because the company I worked for moved from Brooklyn to NJ and I was no longer able to drive.

Nov 3. Android 13 One UI 5. When I try to quote someone the window opens, the quoted text becomes highlighted as if I was going to edit it, then the keyboard closes and I can do nothing.

Braved an upcoming storm yesterday to have a cataract consultation.  Surgery on 1st eye is scheduled for Tuesday. I know most of us "older" folks have had this surgery but I'm still nervous since I'll be "up" and eye just numb. The thought of being aware of someone poking around the inside of my eye fills me with slight dread.  As it is now, I can barely read my computer and very glad I have a touchscreen to tweek everything larger.

I remember years ago, my mother's reaction after cataract surgery.  She said it was like a veil lifted from her eyes and she could see clearly again.  Hope that happens to me.

On the ankle front, feeling slightly less pain when walking.  Yes!

So looking forward to our Feb and Mar cruses, you have no idea!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
