So sorry to read about the fire but I’m so glad it wasn’t a worse outcome.

So finally some pictures of the kitchen island project.  First, the before photos, including blue tape we used as a guide for the placement of the new island.  You can see it’s not only an unusual shape, but very oddly placed and not at all practical for cooking due to the distance from the sink and stove.

The placement also meant the kitchen table had to be pushed too close to the far wall to allow for any type of China cabinet or hutch. (Old photo from last Christmas)

This is the new island. Much larger, more functional and so much more storage. It also allows the table and chairs to be centered and room for a hutch.

There’s still some discoloration in the hardwoods from the old island but that will eventually darken. I absolutely love the two deep drawers for all my pots and pans.

Beautiful job on the Island!!  It totally changes the entire look and feel of the kitchen and dining area.  You must be thrilled with all of the room you now have there.  Great job, Deb and Andy!!

Owen’s Rugby season has now come to and end.

For @Tree_skier and others interested they are undefeated in regular play and won all tournaments.  It’s nice to see the season come to an end with the game today even though we have enjoyed it. The first game was just over freezing and today it was in the 90s.  Tomorrow we are gone for a baseball tournament.  Thankfully school ends in 3 weeks for him.

As for today, they won 38-0.  Owen got 2 tries and made 3 conversions for a total of 16 points. He was also the player of the game. Owen’s conversions and one try are in this video. At 45 seconds in you will see a running play where one player throw the ball to Owen and he takes off for the try.

Talk about proud!!!!  Owen is an awesome and amazing athlete and scholar!

I'm lacking in social skills & etiquette. Happy Birthday to @Ocean Boy and all the family members of fellow CC posters. I feel the need to buy some Kraken for the weekend.

@Luckynana, your granddaughter is beautiful & her dress in not only prom worthy but Taylor Swift concert worthy. 🙂

All the home update pictures look amazing & safe travels to those that are traveling.

Did I miss anything? 😳

Thank you, HBE!!

I don't think the picture needs any explanation for the thread family...

So, we had an eventful May.  Last weekend of April, we had a house fire.  Freak spark accident into an Arborvitae plant (pro tip: cut the torches-waiting-to-happen down if they're next to your house, like I always wanted to do but never got around to LOL).  Thankfully, the fire went up through the roof and not down.  Everybody....wife, dog, cat, chickens, were all okay.  Not a lot of fire damage to the house itself (in fact, you can't really tell there was a fire inside the house other than the smoke smell), but lots of smoke and water (fire department did an amazing job).

House42923.jpg.964c29a4644f619045a0b68db807c68a.jpg

Looking at 6-8 months for reconstruction.  From the outside, 95% of the house looks normal.  I'm sure they'll have to gut the inside down to the studs due to the smoke and fire.  In the meantime, we were lucky to find a rental house in our neighborhood just a couple blocks away, so we are super close for the duration (depending on the wonderful county permitting/inspection process, may be there up to 12 months).  Easy enough to feed the chickens and keep an eye on things during reconstruction.

Didn't lose anything sentimental.  Insurance company thus far has been great (even, dare I say, overly generous in their valuing of certain items).  Anything we lost....stuff is just stuff anyway.

The only cruise-related casualty is a 16 day we had planned in October.  We really don't want to be away for 2-1/2 weeks so we're cutting it back to a week in October.  Which is fine, since we'll be on our favorite ship, the Adventure.

Which is appropriate, since life is an adventure, right?

In the meantime, here's Stevie and her best friend Tucker, all tired out from playing.  We stayed with our next door neighbors for about three weeks while the whole rental deal was being hashed out.  They were wonderful, told us to stay as long as we needed to.  Stevie played with Tucker all day long, every day, and thought us burning the house down was the best thing we've ever done.

Thankful to hear all are okay!  Sorry you have to deal with this.  Good to see your positive attitude.

Congratulations to Owen on a season well played.  Good luck in the baseball tournament.

My grandson’s next baseball game is tonight, as they play to keep their undefeated streak going.  After baseball, he will be moving on to golf.  He will be playing on a team sponsored by one of the local golf courses.

How frequently do you spot turtles where you live, April?

I'm sure your grandson and his team will perform as well as they've been doing all Season.  Sure is a hot one, though!  I always brought cold wet towels for the kids when it was scorching out for their games.

How long has your grandson been playing Golf?

@Husky1987  I'm so sorry to read about your house fire.  Thank God you, your wife, your bestie, Stevie, and all your chickens are all okay.  You have a great positive attitude, Husky!  I hope the renovations get done as quickly as positive.    Seems you've got a great Insurance adjuster, which is always a big help in these situations.

Wow,  I bet that was quite a scare ,glad for the most part everything is okay.

Time will take care of everything.

Just be patience   seems all construction during current times is a slow process.

If I remember right ,since you now have to cancel the Panama Canal cruise, someone is going to get real lucky and switch into your aft cabin you had booked.

Sorry I’m late everyone has said what I would say but I’m happy everyone is safe and you will be getting repairs done. You have a great attitude about it all.

Hey which sailing are you on in October on Adventure?  We are on Adventure October 21-28th for a Eastern Caribbean with Tortola. It would be great if we could sail together.

Cheers!

We first went in 1972 and then continued going until the kids came along.  Back then you couldn’t beat it for dining and shows.  We went back in 1999, a lot of changes but still fun😁

We went to Reno in 1999 instead of returning to LV.We have been to casinos all over the US,Canada and the Caribbean.

Things aren't finalized yet, but that's the sailing we're looking at and have decided to move to....that's great!  If it all comes together I'll definitely let you know and we'll have plenty of time at the Schooner Bar to share drinks and Linda and I can share some UMKC war stories!

Yep, that's the one.  They took away a couple of cool ports and although going through the Canal was obviously a highlight, we were a little less excited about the whole thing.  It was by far the best JS deal I've ever had...to be honest I'm more bummed about missing the deal than missing the cruise.😉

He has been playing for three years, I think. I may have posted this before, but he took first place last year in a Junior Open for his age group.  His score was even lower than the next two age groups above him.
