Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Our favorite traveling nurse posted some great helpful info in another thread.  Scooters fit in balcony doors.  I didn't know that.  Our TA has been finding us Accessible rooms but when we booked Icon there were none available. It was a real challenge getting in and out of the room last month.  So with that info Sharon googled Scooter rentals and found this one.  What do you think?

I'd be worried that Royal would confiscate it and turn it into this...image.png.29b88451bc472217a666db60ce486cb4.png

@HBE4  So glad the fireman got Lenny out of the tree and safely into your stepdaughter's arms.  What an exhausting and stressful day for the two of you!

I asked Jim if his firehouse ever got a call to get a cat out of a tree.  He said only once, in his 30 years as a firefighter.😊

Okay, after all the Las Vegas posts here, my "new" cousin just posted this on FB:

Ok my frequent Vegas peeps…I need recommendations on places to eat and things to not miss. Got a couple 21 year olds headed there for their birthdays in a couple weeks. TIA

So, what are your suggestions, those of you who are LV regulars?  She's taking her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend to Vegas later this month, since they both recently turned 21yo.  Any recommendations?

Debi, I would highly recommend the Jabbawockeez to them.  They are at the MGM Grand.  It is a high energy and fun show that the whole family would enjoy.  And I think especially for the 21 year olds.  BTW, there are no more live lions at the MGM.

For eating, we like this place called Ocean One Bar & Grille in the Miracle Mile Mall.  They have a $5.99 lunch special (it used to be $5.00) that runs from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  There’s quite a few things to choose from on the menu.  Food is pretty good.  Sure beats the high prices of everywhere else on the strip.

There is a pirate show in front of Treasure Island Casino & Hotel nightly.  There is the Venetian Resort where you can ride the Venetian  Gondolas.  There are so many other hotels, resorts and shops that each  is unique in their own way.

And of course, not to miss is the Fountains of Bellagio, especially at night.  You can find the schedule of show time and song list online for the week that your cousin and her kids are there.

Beware though.  There are a lot of girls walking in pairs, up and down along the strip in their showgirl costumes, wanting to take pictures with tourists walking by.  They will ask if you want to have a picture taken with them.  But once you take a picture with them, then they tell you you owe them x amount of $$.  I’ve seen where they have become so desperate that they grab a male walking by by the arm and won’t let go.  The guy has to say no and pull away.

In 1945 my cousin Dave could not find his son Donald .They looked all over the house and outside.Somehow Donald was sitting on a tree .

I have no idea how he got up or down but I have a picture that one of my parents took.To this date Donald states he has no idea how he got up there.

Can you find the Leonard?

Len1.thumb.jpg.470d0ac5bf4b95a6ba20ac627122766c.jpg

Let me zoom 30 ft up to the top of the tree. Yeah, that happened.

Len2.thumb.jpg.6821233ab91d0496f632e3a8317a6620.jpg

So Leonard is an indoor cat that occasionally comes outside when me or my step daughter (its’ her cat) are out. He usually stays within eye sight and always comes when called or if we go after him if he strays too far. Well, we got a little complacent yesterday as we busied ourselves with our various outdoor chores.  In what will now be his last outdoor adventure, he wandered off property. After spending 20 minutes looking for him, the neighbor’s dog found him. Fortunately, the dog was behind a fence but still scared Leonard up the tree.  Problem is, he didn’t know or was too scared to come down.

Now, this tree is located in the middle of a very small but very dense patch of woods. On a steep slope surrounded by piles of leaves, soft ground and brush piles with plenty of sharp, dead branches that are like daggers.  Not exactly the ideal location to setup my 24 foot extension ladder which, because of the angle necessary to avoid the aforementioned obstacles, was still 6-8 feet away from him. For the next 3 ½ hours, we took turns going up the ladder, shaking a bag of treats and opening cans of smelly cat food in an attempt to coax him down. Nothing. We left him along for a bit. Still wouldn’t budge.

As night was falling and a growing number of neighbors joined the rescue party, various ideas were tossed around like shaking the tree, throw rocks to startle him, spray him with a hose, leave him to spend the night up there alone. Uhhh, that’s a hard NO to all of those well-meaning but less-than-excellent ideas. Pleas for help were sent out on various social media, calls to animal hospitals were made when one of my neighbors suggested the fire department. Of course, I scoffed at that cliché idea that you only see in old 1950’s TV show but she called anyway, saying what do you have to lose? Ten minutes later, a fire truck and 2 fire dept. SUV’s show up along with 8 firemen (and firewoman) and their 35-foot ladder.  That attracted the attention of everyone up and down the street.  Took another 45 minutes to get the ladder setup properly and one of the firemen to pry Leonard from the tree. He was holding on for dear life.

Did I mentioned this happened right before dinner time after I spent 5 or 6 hours mowing, mulching, weeding, trimming, etc. All is well that ends well but I guess now I’ll be known as the guy that had to call the fire department to rescue a cat from a tree. I asked one of the more senior fireman there how many times have they done this and he replied this was the first time.

It’s possible I might move out of town in the middle of the night in shame. 😨

Who once told you to keep the cat in the house?🤔

Go figure... In Israel it is almost a daily occurrence....

cat climbed high in a tree? = firefighters on their way ☹️.

How wonderful to have so many people helping you!

Thank you.

Yes, it was truly heartwarming.  In fact, my backyard neighbor who I barely know - the small but dense patch of woods separate our backyards so we don't really "see" each other except in the fall for leaf blowing & then just to wave /  head nod towards each other - was the first to  come help out and spent the entire time with us until Leonard was rescued. It was his wife that ultimately called the fire dept. on our behalf.

A thunderstorm and rain early this morning. I slept right through it, but DH cannot shake off his habit of getting up early since his working days.

Very unusual this time of the year.

You did!  And a few others as well. @Coralc and @Keksie and maybe a few othesr think.

And you guys were right!

Funny, in the past when one of us has been outside, Leonard would in the window meowing to come out. Not today. I wonder if he's lost interest for now.

Too late to edit but I just wanted to add that I told Little Miss HBE4 she better get busy baking Thank You cookies for the neighbors. And she will!

I am just glad it turned out well.   Our cats meow at the windows when we are outside too.  They have a catio during the day with a cat door so they can come and go.  We lock it at night or during really bad weather.

My girlfriend & family have been travelling around Italy.  She texted me yesterday to say they were boarding their NCL ship (I am thinking Norwegian Gem) for a 10 day cruise.  She forgot to send me the itinerary from the TA before she left but from my quick research today - it looks like this one and I am thinking/hoping for them  it’s a good one?

Departing Ravenna (they originally had hotel booked in Venice until they realised their error)

Koper

Trieste

Hvar

Kotor

Corfu

Santorini

Mykonos

Dubrovink

returning to Ravenna

(excuse my spelling I scribbled the ports down in a rush at work)last month I was on the NCL Gem and did the first Half of this cruise, in 2019 I did the second half with Argostoli.  I loved the ports. We went from Trieste not Ravenna though.  If they can get to Venice it is a very special place.  My only disappointment was that I realized too late that I could have gone to see Lipizzaner horses from Koper.  When I was a child in the 70s my absolute favorite tv show was about a stable in Slovenia.  I am thinking I need to go back.

@HBE4 Glad the firies came to you and Leonard’s rescue and Leonard is safely home. An exhausting and frightening experience for you both.

I think Leonard may have even outclimbed Lucy @A&L_Ont was the tree taller than the top of your hay bales?

Thank you.

The big difference is Lucy knows how to get back down without the aid of 15+ people working over 4 hours.

Maybe I should send Leonard up to Canada so Lucy can train him properly.  Lol. @A&L_Ont

Do cats need passports? 😂

Do you remember Chorus Line? And the song “What I Did For Love”?

Be proud of yourself! Sacrificing your dignity and reputation for Leonard and your stepdaughter earned you an invisible medal!!

@HBE4 When we bought our current house with the screened patio our new cat sitter thought we’d allow the cats out on it.  Um, no.  Not only would I trust that they could find a loose spot somewhere to pull a Houdini, but we have plants out there.  Bromeliads, dahlias, oleanders, lilies, pentas, salvia, petunias…and I work under the assumption they are all poisonous to cats.

What’s interesting is they have never mewed when we’re out there…never tried to dash out…which is fine with me.  My best friend, whom I call The Cat Whisperer, has an answer for all puzzling cat behaviors:  “They’re cats.”

And it’s important also not to anthropomorphize too much…😸
