Rare Vict0riann Posted April 23, 2022 #55 Share Posted April 23, 2022 Good morning, Dailyites! And thanks for the fleet report and daily news, all... We are waiting to hear fro a neighbour and will go out to the garden centre soon. I have started putting tender plants out for the day to harden them up a bit. Can't wait to get everything out of the house! We have been to Amsterdam a few times. In 2007 we were there with friends in April and visited the Keukenhof and did all the tourist things before taking a river cruise to Budapest. I will just post a few of the gardens, as others have shown the rest of Amsterdam. 29

It's an F1 race weekend, so I will be glued to the tube most of the weekend We most of our motorsports viewing via the DVR. I watched P2 this morning with a bagel and coffee. We'll probably watch the sprint race while preparing dinner, and, then, we'll watch the NASCAR Xfinity race. Tommorrow, we'll catch the F1 and NASCAR main events. Of course, because of our time-shifting viewing habit, Mrs. XBGuy has to avoid Facebook lest she see rasce results posted by one of her friends. I have a friend who is on a cruise ship right now--his first cruise since January 2020. I received a text message from him the other day. He was streaming a practice session from Indianapolis and wanted to give me an update. Happy Birthday.

It looks like it will be a beautiful day here in the PNW, looking at low 60's later today. I'll be meeting my cousin for lunch in Mount Vernon, we haven't seen each other since pre-Covid. She had been living in AZ but moved back to WA a few months ago. We've always been very close, and were each other's maids of honor at our weddings. It's good to have her back here. It's sad to see taped up lost pet signs on our community mail box. Usually it's cats, but occasionally dogs. I don't care for German beers, and haven't been to a movie theater in years. Like Roy @rafinmdthe last time was on the pool deck of the NS (and also the Koningsdam). We love to grab a pizza and beers, lay on the loungers and watch a movie -- looking forward to doing that again on the NS this fall! The wine sounds very good, will pass on the drink and meal. I laughed out loud when reading one of the recipes: "eggs w/o shells" (!) We've been to Amsterdam 3 or 4 times, I love that city. We've just walked for miles and miles around the city, taken the HOHO, gone to the Anne Frank House, and the Van Gogh Museum. Great city! Happy Birthday Ann @marshhawkand Charlene @cunnorl! Happy belated birthday Sue @Rowsby! @Cruzin TerriI agree with you about the selfishness of some people. I'm so sorry half your cruise will be spent looking at 4 walls 😞 I hope the weather improves soon and you can use your balcony at least. Here are some photos from our visits to Amsterdam. Sunrise over Amsterdam On one trip we stayed at the Movenpick Hotel pre-cruise. I highly recommend it! So close to the cruise terminal Of course one day we did a canal boat ride. I love the flowers everywhere. Many houseboats One day we took the train from Rotterdam, where we spent 2 days on the cruise. One of the views from the train And saw the Anne Frank House -- so moving and touching. We went to the floating flower market And I got flowers for our cabin on the ship Lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe Some of the daffodil bulbs purchased in Amsterdam Thank you so much for your photos! A lightbulb went off in my brain when I saw your canal boat ride photos that we had been in Amsterdam once where we did a canal boat ride, too. Only Amsterdam wasn't our port that day, Rotterdam was. This was on Royal Princess in spring of 2015 and we were with our friends who insist on ship tours if we take one at all. So we all four got a tour to Amsterdam, and on the way to our stop at the canal boat ride starting point, our bus was hit by an electric tram. We had to get off and walk a few blocks to get on the canal boat. It was our driver's fault really because we were stopped at a red light, the road was curved and he didn't pull the bus forward enough. The left rear bumper of the bus was overhanging the electric tram tracks. The blue and white vehicle outside the window is the electric tram. We filed off... You should have heard the irate motorists stuck behind our bus! honk, honk, honk! The scene from our walk to the canal boat. Now the sirens were wailing! The canal boat rides in Amsterdam are outstanding and I recommend them to you. We've taken canal boat rides in Suzhou China, St. Petersburg Russia, Amersterdam, Brugge Belgium and Copenhagen and probably others. Love them. 25

Mtn2Sea Posted April 23, 2022 #65 Share Posted April 23, 2022 As part of the 2019 world cruise, we did an overnight in Amsterdam while on HAL’s Amsterdam. On the first day, we took an excursion to the Keukenhof gardens, which was amazing. It’s really hard to pick just a few photos, but here is a small sample. After returning to Amsterdam, we’re were able to rest a few hours before going to an evening reception that HAL hosted at the Rijksmuseum. HAL passengers were the only guests at the museum. A very memorable evening to say the least! 24

JazzyV Posted April 23, 2022 #69 Share Posted April 23, 2022 Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily. I'm mainly aware of lost dogs (and cats) from all the postings on NextDoor. I like German beer, especially while sitting in a Biergarten in Germany. I haven't been in a movie theater for a while. One of our old glamorous movie theaters built in 1928 is now a performing arts center. Interesting quote. The meal sounds interesting. I'll pass on the drink and wine. I've been to Amsterdam on a land trip, pre-digital camera. Thanks for the pictures of the Keukenhof gardens, which I haven't visited. It's sunny here and up to 83F! Busy morning for me. I'm transitioning my bed over to summer, which means taking the fleece sheets off (I'm always cold). I'll keep the comforter on for a while longer. So doing several loads of laundry. I'm also getting my sourdough starter up to peak, for making a focaccia dough later. It will go into the fridge overnight, for baking tomorrow. @marshhawk Happy Birthday! @cunnorl Happy Birthday! @smitty34877 I'm glad to hear that things are a bit better. Continued prayers for you all. @Cruzin Terri Sad that you're not able to enjoy some time out on the balcony. Do you have books on your tablet to read, or puzzles to help combat the boredom? @StLouisCruisers Good to hear that Ryan's surgery was successful. Sorry to hear about the situation with Buddy's salivary glands. Prayers for him and Jen. @Dismomx5 Enjoy the visit with DD, the grandchildren and Cairo! Prayers for the Care List and Ukraine. Cheers for the Celebration List. Stay safe everyone. 16

DH did not think he needed to bring his, so he sleeps all day. Hopefully it will start to get warmer and we can enjoy the balcony. We get our first test on Monday. If negative we get retested on Tuesday and will be released. Praying and keeping our fingers crossed. DH and I have made a plan. According to Oceania, if one member of a couple tests negative and other positive, the negative person has the option to move to another room so they are free to move about and go ashore. DH and I decided that if this happens, we take advantage of this option so that we are both not impacted. We hope we will both be negative, but you never know. Pray hard. Really tired of looking at four walls and not being able to use the balcony. Terri 21

One time we flew there from a cruise which ended in Montreal. So we got a flight from Montreal to Reykjavik and then on to Amsterdam to pick up our next cruise on the Prinsendam. This was the view as our Icelandair flight landed in Schiphol airport in Amsterdam that trip. A few weeks later on turnaround day in Amsterdam. Busy day! The Prinsendam docked next to the Koningsdam that day. On deck at sailaway time we heard two ladies talking and wondering which direction we would be headed. Uh, do you see that low bridge ahead of us? I don't think there's any chance we're going to go that way. But the trip we spent the most time in Amsterdam was in the middle of B2B cruises on Prinsendam in 2017. Another turnaround day. It was a misty day but we went out anyway. The date was June 3, 2017. A short walk from the ship was the very busy Centraal Station. This building worried me. I wouldn't want to sit outside in front of it to enjoy a beverage, with those walls leaning like that. Madame Tussaud's This stop was just a walk around day for us, with no plans made ahead of time. We do that a lot. Lots of lovely photos Sandi. Brings back memories. Our last visit was a new year cruise on P&O Ventura in 2016. We were on a new year cruise on Ventura in 2015 too but it was very windy and because Ventura did not have Azipods we ended up sailing in the English channel because the captain thought it dangerous sailing up the canal to Amsterdam. 15

Sharon in AZ Posted April 23, 2022 #75 Share Posted April 23, 2022 (edited) Good afternoon! The Oosterdam is on the move! Happy Birthday to Ann @marshhawk & Charlene @cunnorl!! 🎂🎈🎉🧁 Congratulations on the new grand baby @Dismomx5! Enjoy your trip and the snuggle time. I would really like to try the Katsudon. I’ve seen recipes before but never tried it. I am loving all the pictures of Amsterdam but have never really been there except for the airport. The flowers are amazing. Graham @grapau27 — thank you for the info on the castle. Wow, 7 foot walls! Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser — good to hear you are home safely. There was a huge pileup on I10 near Picacho Peak the day after you drove through there. It was an 18 year old driving and human trafficking was involved. Three were killed. Sad. DPS was trying to pull him over but he went across the median into oncoming traffic. Then the winds got really bad. So I’m glad you bypassed all that. Terri @Cruzin Terri — hang in there! Things will get better and you will be out of jail soon. I’m deliberately not telling DH too much about shipboard covid jail. I think it’s better that he doesn’t know too much. To be honest, even though I would be unhappy missing ports, I really wouldn’t mind quarantine. We spent the morning looking at boarding options for Blue. Our vet no longer boards. I think we found a really good place and they seemed excited that he’s a Mexican Hairless. Bad thing is that it will cost almost 3 times as much, Yikes. Then we went for pizza and I had to cut mine because I still can’t use my front teeth. Pizza doesn’t quite taste the same that way. Have a great Saturday everyone!
