Good morning, all! Kittens, Piña Coladas, Teddy Bears - what a wonderful day that sounds like! The meal, drink and wine also sound good. We haven’t been to Kristiansand yet, but it’s on the itinerary for next spring.

@kazu I’m so glad you like the scarf, although Canada Post did an excellent job of wrinkling it. I got your address from a fellow Dailyite who felt it was OK to pass it on under the circumstances. If you want to adopt the rescue, I say go for it! It would be different if this was your first dog ever and a new experience, but it’s not. And from what you say, the rescue does not have the luxury of waiting a year. You’re really just returning a bit of balance to your life, and to the dog’s as well, and you probably both need that at this time.

We’re back on Salt Spring again. The mainland should be getting hot this week, so for once we travelled in the right direction!

Happy Sunday, everyone, and I wish I could be enjoying a Piña Colada on a BHB today!

Thank God for the properties of that phone.  I frequently forget to carry my cell phone but I have an old one that I keep in the car.   It's on a charger but when it gets fully charged it stops charging and eventually the battery goes dead.  Glad that did not happen with Father David.

Good morning!  Thank you for the Fleet Report Rich. Thank you to everyone posting and sharing.

Well, we did get in the pool yesterday afternoon and it was wonderful and felt warmer than the 82 degrees that the flamingo said (the floating temp gauge).  However, even though I had a hat on I got too much sun and had a headache later. DGD and I had some fun races too, of course she always wins.

Jacqui @kazu, I love the scarf @Horizon chaser 1957sent you!  How beautiful and thoughtful. About the dog— I say go for it!  Only you can decide and I don’t believe in that one year rule, maybe that’s true for some but I don’t think you are in that category.  Ouch about your toe.

@Heartgrove, such great news about your brother getting to go home.

Prayers for all, especially Buddy and family. Peace and comfort for him.

Have a great day everyone!

A late good morning from central Texas where it is sunny and getting hot.  By the time I finish typing this, it will probably be afternoon.  A busy morning, but things had to be done.  I got outside earlier than normal, but not as early as I planned.  It was already 80F before I got out side.  It isn't the heat as much as the intense Texas sun that gets to me.  My hat and the cooling towel helped.   The yard was trimmed and mowed, and the patio and port were blow clean (or as clean as possible with the breeze) in about an hour.   It helped that not all the yard needed mowing since the grass is very dry and not growing.

By now, the first load of laundry, which I started before I went outside, is dry, folded and put away.  The sheets have been changed.  Now I'm waiting on the second load to come out of the dryer, so I can put the third load in and the last load in the washer.

Yesterday afternoon, we got to do something that we hadn't been able to do in many weeks.  We got to open the binds and look outside.  It has been so hot, that the blinds are closed most of the day to keep out the sun and reflected heat.  Even our west facing blinds are closed down a ways to keep the reflection from our neighbors house out of ours.  Our electric bill is high enough without letting extra head inside.  Unfortunately, the clouds did not bring rain although it was raining all around us.

Kittens and teddy bear picnics will be celebrated here even though our last cat died many years ago.  It's also too hot for a teddy bear picnic if we had a teddy bear.  I'm not a fan of pina coladas.

The quote by Charles W. Eliot is very true, since I'm an avid reader.

The meal, drink and wine all sound good.  I'll keep the meal in mind of another day, and unfortunately, unless someone else is buying, the wine is a little pricey.  Have enjoyed many mai tais, and the best place to have one is at the patio bar at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel watching the sunset behind Diamondhead.  We have been lucky enough to be there when we could get a table looking toward Diamondhead.

We were in Kristiansand in 2009 on Tahitian Princess.   I'll post my pictures from July 24, 2021, in a little while.

The second load is waiting to be folded, while the third is drying and the last one is washing.  I use cold water for washing, but with our heatwave, that is even warm water.  In Quartzsite, many people turn off their water heaters in the summer as the water is very warm out of the tap..

@kazu  Jacqui, ouch about your toe.  I hope it is healing well and not too painful.  After reading your second post about the plan to talk to the person at what we called the doggie spa, I think you are making sure what's in your heart will work.  If she is on onboard with working with a dog with issues, then follow your heart.  Only you, not your friends, know what is right for you.  That is a lovely scarf that Laura @Horizon chaser 1957 sent you, and it was so nice that we were included in the gift.  Wear it and remember all the love that it represents.

@Horizon chaser 1957   Laura, the scarf is lovely.  It was a sweet thing to do, and even sweet that you included all of us in the gift.

@Heartgrove  Jack, I'm glad your brother is now home.  I hope you have a good visit with him  when your go to the wedding.

@aliaschief Safe travels, and may the airline gods look favorably on you when you fly home Tuesday.

@mamaofami  Carol, what a nice surprise to see your grandsons, their father, and his sister when you went out to eat with friends.

Now, it's back to the laundry, and then an afternoon with my book.

We were in Kristiansand in on September 15. 2009, on the Tahitian Princess.  It was the first half of a b2b cruise from NYC to Cape Town.  Fortunately, our day was sunny and cool.  The town is surprisingly flat with low hills outside of town.  It is on the southeast part of Norway.  The town is an easy walking town.

To get from the port to town, we took the little tourist train.

Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiserit looks so much nicer in Kristiansand in the sunshine and with blue skies.  We were supposed to be there this month on our original 2022 Island Princess cruise, but that went poof when we cancelled it due to the Russians invading Ukraine.  I hope my friends from Prescott, AZ are enjoying their stop in Kristiansand instead of us.

Thank you Lenda.  It really helps to get an idea of what to expect. We stop there on our cruise next summer.

Terri, we enjoyed our day there.  As I said, it is and easily walkable town, and you can see a lot from the little tourist train.  We were there on September 15, 2009, so I don't know if being that late in the season made a difference in the weather.

Good day and thanks all!  Love that quote as books are an important part of my life!  Thanks for the beautiful port photos!
@Heartgrove good news on your brother

@Horizon chaser 1957 what a lovely gesture and beautiful scarf. Please remind me of your Etsy site, as I’ve forgotten.

@Quartzsite Cruiser the Royal Hawaiian is such a great spot, but My favourite is their pink palace drink.   Yum!   One day I will stay there but we seldom go to Oahu.
@kazu yikes on the toe, and pizza!  But follow your heart and gut on the dog, only you will know when the time is right.  Our friend got a new pup shortly after she lost her husband and it was a good thing for her.  Looks like a very beautiful  dog, one I’m not familiar with.
happy Sunday, off to the lake

Good morning Dailyites.  I have not gotten through our Fleet/Daily but know y'all are in my thoughts and prayers.

My sis and I have had beautiful beach walks. We wave at @DeeniEncinitas place as we go by. Sure wish we could have caught up before you went home.

Shopped yesterday downtown and went to one of our favorites for brunch. Mala. The sea turtles were out rocking and rolling!

@kazu I believe you and the new pup if you can get her will be a great match. My vote is a yes. Just think of the life she will have in her new home. Hope she loves flowers;)

Prayers lifted for Buddy and Amy.

I'll catch up later. Out to breakfast.

Cheers, prayers and blessings

Back on May 3rd, I asked the Daily readers to recommend a can opener that would actually open cans. Thanks to @StLouisCruisers, @Cruising-along, and @canadarocks for their suggestions. After researching the options, we settled on the Starfrit model recommended by @canadarocksAmazon.com: Starfrit Securimax Auto Can Opener, Silver/Black : Home & Kitchen

It works like a charm every time we need to get a can opened. It has already lasted longer than most can-openers we have tried. I am hopeful that we will still be celebrating this purchase on August 24th, when National Can Opener Day rolls around.

Love that we can always trust the advice of the readers of the Fleet Report and Daily.

Can openers! Thank you HAL4NOW for the suggestions and website. It may be the perfect housewarming gift for DD and family as they move to their new home. I’ll make sure it arrives on August 24, National Can Opener Day!

Normally I love reading a book.  Recently I have had a hard time concentrating long enough on one, and tomorrow is book club.  And I haven't finished reading the book.  I absolutely hate this book.  It's called the Orchid Thief.  Yes, there was a movie.  I have watched the movie, and I don't remember it being as slow as the book.  Maybe I slept through it, because I have fallen asleep twice trying to finish the book today.  So I did what I have always done, and read the last few pages (do you remember in When Harry  Met Sally, he said that he always reads the last page first, in case he dies before he finishes the book?)  Well if I have to sit reading this one  any longer, I probably would fall over.

aec71f702a1d157984edbbf1db7e3df6--library-humor-library-books.jpg

Yesterdays book purchases were much more exciting and enticing to me, a Rick Steves Travel Book of Rome (he's a bit of a snob)  A book on touring Alaska, and a book on Ancient Greece.  They are all calling to me .  I wonder if I have adult onset attention deficit disorder....is there such a thing? My tiny brain is trying to absorb how to sell for Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, and Louisville Orchestra, and its so full of info I really dont want to absorb anything about how many zillion types of orchids there are, or haw many people in the 1800' s died trying to locate new ones.  Even the main characters aren't lovable.

Amen to that, our priest is also long winded.

We used to have a rabbi whose sermons often sounded like group therapy in which no one else was allowed to talk -- that is, working out of personal problems that most of the congregation didn't share. One of them ran to 40 minutes.

My sermon went 42 minutes today, but we followed it up with a great potluck. We were joined by a few nieghbors and firefighters that like the potlucks but don't want to sit through a sermon.

Now you have me curious LOL!  I have never thought of him that way -- probably the opposite actually... We've gone many times to his lectures and travel center, he's always been friendly and accessible.
