We've only driven through Boston once when we were heading to Cape Cod from a camping trip in Acadia National Park, and that was in 1974.  Since then, we've always let someone else do the driving in Boston.

I learned to drive in Boston….it prepared me for driving around here!

Good morning all. My DD’s eye with the bee sting was only swollen a little when I saw her last night so all is good. We had a great family party for dh’s birthday with ribs and German potato salad. Thanks everyone for your good wishes.

@ger_77condolences on the loss of your friend and I hope you and dh both feel better soon

@kazuthinking of you and shadow and hope all is well

@JazzyVsenior depends on what country you are in lol. I used to get the senior discount in Florida from age 55 or even sometimes 50 but here at home had to wait until 65! Because dh is 5 years older than I am, I dragged him along shopping once he turned 65! Now at 72 and 77 we count as seniors everywhere.

we had some rain and thunderstorms last night and early this morning but probably only got about 3/4 of an inch of rain in Windsor. It looks like Essex county and parts east of us got more.it will help but not relieve our drought.

prayers for all who need them, celebrating with those celebrating and wishing everyone a blessed Sunday.

Thanks everyone for the interesting photos of Boston.  It seems a lot of you have some history with Boston.  DH and DS had been there in 1991 on a college tour trip they took before DS's senior year.  He checked out MIT in nearby Cambridge.  But DH enjoyed our walk around Boston as much as I did, since he hadn't focused on the city in 1991.

As I sit here scratching my head I realized today is 6 months since my forehead MOHS surgery.  The left side crown area has been numb ever since.  But the past few weeks I've noticed a lot of itching up there, too.  I am hopeful that means the nerves are growing back.  Hopefully in the next 6 months I will return to normal.  I asked my hairdresser to check the scalp carefully for me last visit, because I wanted to rule out any skin issues.  Nothing seen up there so I continue to wait...and scratch!

Good afternoon,

Sorry my wrist and arm are paining too much to type much.  Had to pick up that dam dog twice 😠 and I am paying for it.

Yes, she has gone to her foster - more on that tomorrow depending on my wrist but I did want to extend my deep condolences to @ger_77 on Melodie’s passing.  I am so sorry to hear this sad news.  Prayers for her, her family and you both. 🙏🏻

Good news your hairdresser thought your forehead looked clear.

We've been to Boston several times and will be again in October.  My photos would be too much like others already posted (thank you for them!).  I think we've done all the touristy things there, but I'm thinking of visiting the Paul Revere House this time and just walking around (weather permitting). Debbie @dfishis that something worth seeing?  I would think it is...

Sure it is worth it!  I'd go again.   If we could get a shuttle to the Faneuil Hall area, the Freedom Trail through the North End is a lovely way to spend the day.

@ger_77 My condolences on the loss of  your friend, Melodie.  I'm sure you and your DH will be great comfort to her DH.

@kazu I'm sorry your wrist is hurting so much.  Now that the dog is gone and you don't have to lift her, perhaps it will heal by leaps and bounds!  Let's hope so.

I have to say that painting sure is more work than it was 20 years ago.  I'm whipped after just doing the dining room ceiling.

I couldn't find any Boston pictures. I have lots of non-digital ones from the 70's, although as a poor student I didn't take many pictures. I'm surprised I can't find any from my 2009 visit.

@kazu I'm sorry to hear you're having so much pain. I hope it feels better soon.

@dfish I used to do all my own painting. Then I developed some imbalance issues, and with my 10 foot ceilings I've been reluctant to get on ladders. It has improved though, and I really need to paint my kitchen since the renovation. But going around all those cabinets would be hard; I'd like to find someone competent and reliable to do it instead.

Good Afternoon, Dailyites!

Been a crazy week around here with no particular reason -- just not our usual.

Thanks to all of you who make this such a friendly, caring place.  Cheers to those on the celebratory list and healing hugs to those on the care list.

We have only been to Boston once on a cruise - November 2, 2013, during a repo from Quebec to Fort Lauderdale on the Emerald Princess.  DH decided it would be a good idea to walk the Freedom Trail in reverse since most of the tourists would follow the recommended direction.  It was a good idea, but that day just happened to be the day of the parade to celebrate the Red Sox winning the World Series! Everywhere was crowded and jubilant.  A lot of fun and ran across a lot of nice people willing to direct a couple of strangers.

We've already seen photos of the landmarks, so will try to show some unique things we saw during our visit.

This is (was) the entrance to Durgin-Park, a very iconic steak house on the upper level Quincy Market.  It was renowned for taking no reservations, attentive but no nonsense waitresses who would remember a customer almost forever, and huge cuts of steak.  We had the celebration dinner there for Roger's 1962 graduation from Harvard, and I returned a couple of subsequent times for lunch. It was under the same management from 1827 to 2019,

Good reading today,  I'll say my prayers for those on the Care List, and have a celebratory glass of ginger ale to salute those celebrating.  @grapau27, Happy anniversary to you and Pauline tomorrow.  And thank you for Father David's sermon.  Don't tell him, but our pastor has taken 6 weeks off (usually he gets a month) to return home to Newfoundland for the summer.  We have fill-ins at Mass, or services led by someone in the congregation while he is away.   @StLouisCruisers, I hope the nerves are regenerating in your scalp, the itch might be a good sign.

@kazu, sorry about the wrist, I find my once broken wrist tends to ache at the best of times, a sprain on top of that and then lifting dogs would be no fun!  @ger_77, condolences on the loss of your friend.  And @lindaler, what a nuisance about the roof!

Good Sunday morning to everyone!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and to everyone for sharing.

Debbie @dfish — thanks for the poblano recipes. Chilies Rellenos are a favorite of mine. I’ve never made a stuffed version though, but really want to try the second recipe, the southwest one with corn.

I have been to Boston twice. The first one was with my Mom and we stayed at the Omni Parker House after disembarking our cruise on the Maasdam September 2005. Second time was with Mom and Craig and it was a port of call on our New York to Quebec City cruise on the Eurodam September 2009. In 2005 we did the Freedom Trail, Boston Common, and the usual sights around Faneuil Hall, and ate at the Union Oyster House also. My biggest memory of that cruise is that it was during Hurricane Katrina.

In 2009 it was pouring rain and was also the day of Ted Kennedy’s funeral. Mom went with us to Faneuil but was miserable because of the rain so we put her back in a taxi to the ship. Craig braved the rain and did a bit of the Freedom Trail while I went to the Union Oyster House. We had reservations but I sat at the bar and waited for Craig and watched the funeral. When he got there we ordered oysters and loved the bar so much that we canceled our reservation.  It was still raining when we went back to the ship. We will be there in October and don’t have plans, we’ll probably do some of the same things.

Jacqui @kazu, I hope your wrist and arm feel better soon. Good news about Shadow and the rescue place.

Gerry @ger_77, so sad about your friend. Condolences to you and her family.

Have a great day everyone!

Our guide on the bus was an old Bostonian (?) and so of course we had a visit to Fenway Park.

Going to a game at Fenway Park was an experience; it got pretty rowdy up above the big green monster.

Did anyone go to Wahlburgers in Boston?  Just curious as to what the burgers were like.

Also, I have asked  Mr. Google, but I can't find a live webcam of any sort for the Vancouver cruise ship port.  If someone could help, thanks in advance.  Two dear friends of mine are going on their first cruise to Alaska aboard Serenade OTS today and I said I would check out their sail away.

That's a cool idea.

Ceilings are done.  Wall behind the fridge is done.  All the cut work is done.  Tomorrow is full steam ahead.  Now I'm going to go pick up some dinner.  It's kind of hard to cook when there is plastic sheeting over everything.

Thanks kindly Fred.  I have 2 of them.  One with the hard splint and the other with support.  The one with the splint makes it impossible to type or do much.  I had one on when I picked up Little, believe me.

The doctor told me to wear as needed but not all the time.  To try to use the wrist but not overuse or lift anything heavy at all (over 5 pounds).  Little weighed much more than that 😉

I wear it at night as per instructions and when it pains a lot.  So, sadly it’s been on a lot for the last 2 days.  It will improve - it was doing pretty good until I picked her up.

I grew up outside Boston and went into the city for my driving license test.I was in my 20's at the time. It was an early morning with light snow. I drove around ,then took the inspector back to the registry. He said he had a few things to go over with me,"Never parallel park again. If you can't find a place to straight pull in, then keep on driving . Also release your emergency brake. It was okay today because it's snowing and I didn't want you to go fast. I'm giving you a license because I'm in a good mood right now ,but later today, no one is getting a license. " I have taken his comments to heart and have never paralleled park since that day.

@kazu sending healing thoughts!
@smitty34877 wow, impressed THAT you learned to drive in Boston and drive in “THE CITY”.
I remember all the dinted cars, Filene’s  basement  and Salem.  Have friends who drive in Manhattan, impressed our DS.

not spumoni, but a beautiful ice cream cake, they had interesting flavours like Ube, Avocado, Durian and Jackfruit

Night before last we saw 5 deer behind our house grazing in the grass below our property (between us and the golf cart path).  Two fawns and 3 adults.  Tonight we see the two fawns and two of the adults noshing on the grass again.  The two fawns are acting tired tonight and both are lying down doing their snacking from a reclining position.  One of the fawns has a crazy pattern for its dots - they are lined up like airport landing lights!  And one of the adults has the white (hazy) left eye that I mentioned quite a while back.  Either last winter or last summer.  Good to see that one back.  I can't tell gender from up here but we are calling them Mama, Papa, with their two babies.  🦌
