Wearing masks onboard

Recommended Posts

I'm fully vaxxed (5 shots). I've been on 5 cruises since the restart...only wore masks on the one that required it. Came home with Covid last August after an Alaska cruise.

I will wear a mask on my flight to a cruise, but only because I don't want to have covid on the ship. I won't wear a mask on the ship or on the way home. Just like I won't wear a helmet AND a seatbelt when I drive.

Between the weakened variant and available antivirals, this certainly isn't the 2020 covid.

We were on a cruise in December.  I wore a mask in my travels (airport, airplane, uber in Florida), but then took it off.  I always carried one with me on the ship in the evenings for the theatre "just in case",  I didn't wear it but wanted on on me in case someone'll sat near me who was obviously coughing, etc.  I have the same plan for our upcoming cruise in March.

Note as well, I still wear one at home when at the mall or supermarket.  (I'm not the only one but certainly less these days)

On Liberty for our last cruise, there were a few crew members wearing them but not many.  Likewise, we saw maybe 2 families wearing them but most weren't.  However OP, wear whatever makes you  comfortable for your health.  It's definitely more of a risk not wearing one and do what works for you.

I was just curious if people are still wearing their masks anytime while onboard? We just came off the Anthem on Friday and read here that there were about 250 reported Covid cases and those are the ones reported. We are 'extra' seniors and we have adopted the policy to always wear masks while indoors on the ship. There were several times (maybe even more than that) when we seemed to be the only ones wearing masks in entire venues.

Is anyone still masking up.

Cheers

People no longer wear a mask, and most will never test again.

We just got off the Indy last month and I saw several (not tons) of people that were masked up. It's all a personal preference (of maybe for medical reasons). I never gave a second glance at them or even judge. If one wants to mask that's fine. You have to do what you feel is best for you.

We just came off a 3 night Liberty of the seas, very few people had masks on.

My non-negotiable for masking is in public restrooms (on the ship or anywhere).  All sorts of gunk, including covid, is aerosolized and when someone flushes without the lid down, it becomes a fine mist that you can't help but inhale.  No thank you.  I don't take elevators anyway, so that's a non issue.  Otherwise, will most likely mask in shows and other venues with high concentration of people and low air exchange.  A good kn95 or n95 is not uncomfortable to me, and it seems low effort for a little protection.

I have been on 5 cruises in the last two months. On every cruise I saw passengers wearing masks, although they were a very small minority on each ship.

After every one of these cruises, several people reported online they tested positive for COVID after the cruise. Additionally, according to numerous bartenders I am friends with, there hasn’t been a single RCI cruise where someone didn’t test positive for COVID. I think going on a cruise significantly increases the chances of getting COVID, but this increase is still relatively low. Even a dozen people catching COVID on a ship is extremely low considering the thousands of passengers, which varies by ship class, on every cruise

I though wearing seatbelts to be safer was a good thing. Not? Getting Covid and getting killed in the accident are different things.

Wear them.  Don't wear them.  Who cares.  Everyone is used to seeing others wearing masks by now.  I still see quite a few in the supermarket, and from my coworkers now as well if they have a cold.

Do what you want.  I'm sure there will be very few onboard wearing them, but it doesn't mean you'll look weird if you do. People understand by now that some feel more comfortable wearing them.

Our Jewel cruise last week there were a dozen or more that I notice who wore masks. No one seemed to be bothering them about it.

There were also a few crew members who chose to be masked.

You do what makes you feel comfortable.

Just remembered .. in June on Oasis woman in mask entered elevator and started attacking people for not wearing masks. It was so crazy.

People should mind their own business. Of course this goes both ways.

Wow, crazy!  If you are that worried about others not wearing masks, don't go on a cruise.  Simple.  Welcome to 2023.

We work from home so especially for me (my husband does food shoppings) we do not have almost any interactions with people outside aside from cruises. We are learning new behaviors for sure.

We were on Allure in December and didn't wear a mask but there were a few who did. The cruisers would pack in the elevators and if you were in back you were trapped. People would get on and cough or sneeze. We came home with Covid.

We are leaving on Radiance next week and I will likely take a mask and wear it in the elevator if it gets crowded. My experience with Covid wasn't bad but I'm hoping that whatever protection the mask might add will help avoid my getting it again.

I am on Radiance as well, on Jan 30.
I have heart and lung damage from being a nurse in early Covid outbreak. Caused me to early retire, btw. 68 yr old. Therefore, I will be masked in elevators, check-in, casino, and bars, for the most part.

My understanding is that they meant they will wear a seatbelt for protection while driving, but will not also wear a helmet.  And they will be vaccinated for protection, but will not also wear a mask on top of that.

We have seen people (other than staff) wear them on ships, albeit a rather small %.  Wear 'em if it makes ya feel good.  According to the séance they keep others safe, so someone might appreciate it.

Thank you. This makes sense!

There are still some precautions that make sense to use even if they are not forced.

I'm going to answer this a bit differently, I haven't witnessed anyone being rude to those wearing or NOT wearing masks, on the two cruises I've been on in both Nov. and Dec. I think people are accustomed to seeing both and know that one person's reason for wearing one, or not wearing one, is their right and thus, we all move along and enjoy our trips. Covid, like the flu, like RSV, is here to stay so you need to do what's necessary to bring yourself peace of mind (another consideration is the time of year to cruise, we all know these things flare up in winter months).

I think, hopefully, we've reached the point where some will and some will not wear masks - but it's a bit of a que sera sera situation.  You do you and whatever makes you feel comfortable - I've seen some people wearing, some not wearing - and some who clearly should be wearing a mask as they cough and sniffle their way around.

I wouldn't anticipate feeling uncomfortable or judged if you do decide to wear a mask 🙂
