Rare puppycanducruise Posted June 13, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Good morning and thank you for the Report. We just got back from a cruise - 14 day British Isles cruise on the Zuiderdam. I disconnected from the internet while aboard and don't know what's been going on. I hope everyone is well, I'll look back for Daily Reports and try to get caught up. Right now, I have a bit of laundry to do, the lawn needs to be mowed and Bertie needs a walk. He missed us and won't let us out of his sight.🙂

Rare rafinmd Posted June 13, 2023 #6 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann. Welcome home @puppycanducruise. 650 years is a LONG time to honor a treaty I weed only when there;s no alternative and haven't touched either a sewing machine or a softball in decades. I like the Brown quote, and have been to Key West many times, even getting a couple of times to the Mallory Square dock, I suspect the meal is too spicy for me. My alternative is Chilled Bannana Soup, Tossed Seasonal Greens, and Chicken with Dried Cranberries and Orange Relish as served on MS Prinsendam June 13, 2015. Congratulations @catmando on the tough decision to give up smoking. Roy 35

StLouisCruisers Posted June 13, 2023 #8 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Good morning friends! We have 60F and some sun this morning. Should reach 80 with some clouds and possible afternoon rain. We may run to the grocery for some important food/wine deficiencies.😋 I hear the big lawn mowers starting up down the street already today. They are trying to keep on schedule with rain in the forecast every day for a while coming up. Thanks to Rich @richwmn for the Daily and Fleet Report this morning. Let's see, we have weed your garden day, sewing machine day and world softball day. I won't be getting involved in any of those activities on this date. Some other time! The chicken verde quesadilla sounds interesting, no thanks to the drink or wine. Thanks go to Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for their reports on those items. As for the day in history, wow that is a long time alliance! Prayers for the Care list today and thanks to Vanessa @JazzyV for handling that again today.🙏 Hope you had a successful doctor visit yesterday. Cheers to those on the Celebration list! Have a great cruise and/or happy event! 🥂🚢 Today's port of Key West is a popular one and getting harder to get into anymore due to limitations on cruise ship visits. We were there in 2019 on the Rotterdam. The port was listed here on June 26, 2021 and Dec. 23, 2022. I've copied and pasted the links for anyone needing them for photos. Here is what I posted last December about why I didn't post photos the first time. I see it was a very busy day for me and I didn't post any photos (June 26). We were in St. Louis attending DGS Ren's soccer tournament there, so I didn't get here to the Daily until later in the day (they won by the way). I'm sure there will be plenty of nice photos posted today by others so no worries. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Tuesday! 30
RedneckBob Posted June 13, 2023 #9 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Thanks for the Fleet Update and General Info from all the contributors. Weed your garden day. We celebrated that day last week; National Exercise in your Garden Day. Key West, Florida. Been there many times and worked there for three weeks back in 1988. I was in Federal Court, not a defendant, and every day we walked to the Courthouse in business suits. And every day someone would come up to us and ask us, “Y’all are not from around here, are you.” Can someone tell me if the Everything is $5 Store is still $5? When I there several years ago I was waiting in line to pay the clerk for my stuff. A person in front of me reached the clerk and asked the clerk how much was these items. I said, “Everything is $5!”
smitty34877 Posted June 13, 2023 #10 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Good morning. It is a humid, cloudy day going up to 85 later. I have been to Key West on land trips and enjoyed visiting Hemingway’s house and the six toed kitties.I can use a sewing machine but never got good enough at it to like the finished product. My in laws both worked in the garment district back in the day and really made beautiful clothes on their own time as a hobby. I remember my father in law inspecting the work on a Halloween costume one year. He shook his head sadly at my crooked efforts. Today we are seeing the oncology surgeon and tomorrow it is back to the internist and cardiologist for pre ops again. I am so grateful to get appointments everywhere we needed them in such a timely manner. Surgery will be on 6/26. I made the pad Thai recipe with the honey and had rave reviews last night. I kept the vegetarian portions separate and everyone was content. It was so much easier than other recipes I have tried. Thank you Debbie @dfish. Take care everyone 36

Rare ottahand7 Posted June 13, 2023 #15 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Good morning everyone. We finally got the badly needed rain starting yesterday afternoon. More for most of the day and 20+ mph winds. No garden weeding today, if it was a decent day I would definitely be doing it. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports. I had to take sewing in middle school and I absolutely hated it. I was never a fan of softball either. Today's dish sounds like it is going to be a good one and a Chianti would be good with them. I will pass on the Melon cocktail. Thanks for researching these for us each day. We went to Key West on our first HA cruise together as a couple when we sailed from Tampa on the old Rotterdam. We lucked out and were able to dock next to Mallory Square. I just tacked on a 10-day cruise at the beginning of our planned cruise for next January and we will hopefully be able to visit as it is on our itinerary. I will try to find some photos in my files. @JazzyV Thanks for compiling the Celebrations and Care lists for us. Prayers for all on our list and for the people of Ukraine. @smitty34877 thanks for letting us know your husband's needed surgery was able to be scheduled expediently. I hope the preop appointments go well. Our trip to Key West February 11, 2019 34
cat shepard Posted June 13, 2023 #16 Share Posted June 13, 2023 (edited) Thank you for today’s R & D, Rich. A lovely morning with a hint of the breezes that will help manage the day’s heat. Vanessa, thank you for keeping up with our cares & celebrations. This was taken just off shore from Key West. We were on a wine tasting cruise and the sky was spectacular. Just gym, Bindi walks, putting up the flags in the cul de sac for Flag Day, chores and pool time - that should help keep me out of trouble. Prayers for all who need our support. @smitty34877, Terry I am starting my prayers for Lou’s successful surgery & rapid recovery. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! ******* Capraia Chianti Classico Riserva 2018 I confess to only drinking a Chianti with a meal. I enjoy it, but not as a sipping wine. This one sounds lovely, and is very reasonably priced. Numerous online distributors with prices starting at $22.83. Distributor notes Tenuta di Capraia is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, which for centuries has been one of the most celebrated wine growing areas of Tuscany. Praised for its art and culture, captivating landscapes, and glorious wine and food, their Gran Selezione is a clear winner offering complex aromas of dark cherry, raspberry and sweet violets. Sourced from carefully-selected vineyards, this Tuscan red represents the iconic elegance of a traditional Chianti Classico, while possessing cellar worthy attributes. "Gran Selezione" is a new classification in Chianti Classico that was introduced a few years ago when winemakers wanted a tier higher than Riserva. The quality and aging go beyond Chianti Classico Riserva, with a minimum of 30 months in oak and three months in bottle before release. The wines must be made from estate grown grapes of a single vineyard, or a selection of the estate's best parcels. 95+ Points in back-to-back vintages, Tenuta di Capraia's Gran Selezione is drop-dead gorgeous and a must have for any Italian wine lover! Wine Spectator: 95 Points "This offers depth along with an alluring expression of cherry, black currant and violet flavors. Charming and approachable, yet there’s a dense structure underneath as well as vibrant acidity. The long finish reveals rosemary and iron elements. Best from 2024 through 2042." Sharon in AZ Posted June 13, 2023 #18 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Happy Belated Birthday to Chuck @catmando! Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking— you can do it! I’ve never smoked but my DM did for years and quit during the shutdown because she couldn’t get anyone to buy her cigarettes and deliver them, her senior citizen community where she lives had strict guidelines on deliveries and visitations.
Mr. Boston Posted June 13, 2023 #19 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Good morning everyone. Thanks for the daily report. Just back from Northern Michigan and my niece’s graduation. To top it off another niece got engaged while there and my family threw a surprise retirement party for DH. There was no dieting last weekend! A nice collection of days, I’m sure many of you will weed your gardens today. I really like the quote. Think I’ll pass on the meal and drink today. I’ve been to Key West many times but never on a cruise. Prayers for everyone on our prayer list. Cheers to those of you celebrating happy events today. 🥂

Rare kazu Posted June 13, 2023 #22 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Thanks for our Tuesday Daily, Rich. Nice collection of days. Was addicted to softball for many years. I guess I will be celebrating Weed your Garden day. Is weeding a garden something to celebrate? LOL. I like today’s quote - very optimistic, Oh YUM on the chicken verde quesadillas. I used to make those for DD DH. A Margarita sounds great - will be a hot one today. Loved Key West when we were there. Really enjoyed Hemingway house, his momentos and cats. A very pretty spot to visit. A ton more weeding to do today and a tinch of planting. Bets I run out of earth? LOL. My back says no - the weeds say yes. My elbow is not happy with the physio yesterday and it will continue until my next and probably last appointment. My physio is very impressed with what I am doing and can do. The only issue is around the incision where the skin is too tight and lacks motility so she worked on that and now I have to too. Once we can loosen things, all the pain should disappear when I do certain things. 🤞 Today is about catching up on my spread sheets, planting, weeding, fetch and walks with Ivan. Supposed to rain tomorrow so if I make good head way, it might be time to start name tags and invites for my roll call. I’ll see how far I get today. Terry @smitty34877- so glad to hear you have quick appointments with the specialists for your DH. 👍 Best wishes for his surgery on the 26th 🙏🏻 Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and cheers 🥂 to those celebrating. Have a great Tuesday everyone !!!! 27 2
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted June 13, 2023 #23 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Good morning from central Texas. It is already 76F at 7:10 am with a predicted high of 90F. Beginning Friday, our highs will be in the triple digits for at least ten days, but probably longer. Again today, there is a risk of severe weather, but that is normal for this time of year. We were under a tornado watch yesterday, but unlike Sunday night, the storms passed north and south of us. By yesterday afternoon, the neighbors and the tree service had all the downed limbs cleaned up. The tree service had at least three crews here, but then they've been working on trimming the trees in the RV park in the middle of our community. I posted the following last night, but since many may not have seen it, I will repost it now. There are some Dailyites who cannot eat gluten and I think they should have another chance to see this: I must apologize for unintentionally giving out some erroneous information earlier today when I recommended the pad Thai kit for those who cannot have wheat flour. I thought the noodles in the kit were rice noodles. When I checked the ingredients today, the label tonight it said Oriental noodles, and the first ingredient listed was wheat flour. I hope no one who cannot eat gluten bought the pad Thai kit today. As soon as I finish here, I plan to take my walk while it is still comfortable and then run errands. I need to go to the Post Office and the store. With our small flowerbeds, I usually just pull the weeds when I see them. I have a sewing machine, but it is not used much anymore. I was never good at softball. The Les Brown quote is a good one to live by if possible. The meal sounds interesting as does the wine. We'll pass on the drink. We have been to Key West several times on ships, plus we spend one Thanksgiving there when older DD was about 18 months old. The 1373 Anglo-Portuguese Treaty of Perpetual Alliance is a rarity. Treaties rarely last even a fraction of that time. Welcome home Melanie @puppycanducruise. Terry, @smitty34877 I hope there are not surprises with the pre-op appointments and the visit with the surgeon. Sending positive thoughts for your DH as he nears his June 26 surgery. Jacqui @kazu I hope the therapy helps the skin around the incision loosen and that the pain goes away soon. Lenda 14 2
Sharon in AZ Posted June 13, 2023 #24 Share Posted June 13, 2023 Good morning! As usual I’m awake in the predawn hours but might be able to get a couple more hours of sleep. Thank you Sandi @StLouisCruisers for posting the links to the previous threads for the port of the day. Makes it so much easier to post pictures. This is what I posted on June 26, 2021: We were in Key West January 10, 2015 on the Nieuw Amsterdam. We just walked around and visited a few places. It must have been a Saturday: We had to see the Hemingway House and the cats, although we didn't really get a good picture of the cat's toes: We went to eat at an outdoor cafe/bar and had friends join us: And had to get the obligatory key lime pie dipped in chocolate on a stick: Edited June 26, 2021 by Sharon in AZ travelingbums, smitty34877, sailingdutchy and 22 others 25 33
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted June 13, 2023 #25 Share Posted June 13, 2023 We've have been to Key West several times by ship and once on a land trip. We visited Truman's Little White House and the Fisher Museum, and walked by Hemingway's house. Of course, we've also gone to see Sloppy Joe's Bar. Our go to place, is a key lime pie company for a slice of pie and some to take back to the ship. Our last two visits were by cruise ship, both in 2002. For some reason, I did not take many pictures when we were there on the old Noordam, and I did not take any later that year when we were there on the Rhapsody of the Seas. The rest of my pictures are pre-digital. Here are the pictures I took in 2002, and all but one are from the ship. Lenda 30
