Good morning from a very cloudy central Texas.  It is 59F and heading to a high of 81F with winds up to 20 mph.  It looks like the clouds will stick around through Monday.  Sometime, I will need to mow the grass which is growing like weeds.  Oh, that's right, there are still a lot of weeds in the yard, and it's been too windy to spray the weed killer. I'm not exactly sure what is on the agenda today, but there are a lot of things that need doing.

Since we don't eat lunch, it would be hard to make it count.  Instead, I'll honor the Borinqueneers for their service in Korea and beyond.  I haven't played scrabble in many years.  It's hard to beat younger DD's SO who majored in ancient Greek and also studied and taught Latin, since he knows many two and three letter words.  My mother was good at scrabble as she did crosswords daily.  I still have her scrabble set.

I like the quote, but I think very few will be able to say it like Lillie Langtry.  There is a roundabout connection between Lillie Langtry and Judge Roy Bean, the Law West of the Pecos.  He had a picture of her behind the bar in his saloon the Jersey Lillie, and claimed that someday she'd visit the town of Langtry and sing in his opera house.

We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  The wine sounds nice, but it is a bit pricey.

We have been to Aruba several times beginning in 1991.

This day in 1742 was good day for music and Dublin.

@aliaschief  Bruce, enjoy Agra, but be careful when opening bottled water.  If there is plastic wrap around the cap, make sure the cap seal has not been broken.  Sometimes, they refill the water bottles, and that is not good.

@grapau27  Graham, thank you for the information about the Borinqueneers.

@ORTravelGal  Welcome to the Daily.  We hope you join us again.  Bon Voyage, and have a great time on Rotterdam.

@puppycanducruise  Melanie, our condolences on the loss of your friend at such a young age and from such a horrible disease.

@ocean sounds  Welcome home.

@SusieKIslandGirl  Welcome home.

@Heartgrove  Welcome home Sue and your sister.

@0106  Tina, thanks for the information on Lillie Langtry.

@smitty34877  Terry, that was nice of the production to stop filming so the hospice nurse could make it to your house, and for the policeman to watch her car.  I'm glad she thought Tana look a little better.  Working for a production company would be an interesting summer job for the teenager.

@kazu  Jacqui, I'm glad the foot nurse specialist visit went well and she was able to help you.

@Haljo1935  I saw the story about the shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins high school.  I'm glad no one was killed, but something needs to be done to stop these shootings.  I hope your yard guy can get to the yard today.

Good morning everyone!  Thanks for the Daily and the maps @kazu and @rafinmd!.   I will celebrate Scrabble day, it is my secret addiction to play an ersatz version on my Kindle.   A great quote from Lillie Langtry,  life will be much happier if we learn to live without regrets.   I will pass on anything goat cheese, the sweet cocktail but today's wine in a winner!   Thanks for finding these for us each day!   We have been to Aruba many times visiting twice this year on the Eurodam.   It is the only one of the ABC islands that we haven't gotten away from the port.  It is usually visiting the Renaissance and the casino.   This year I went on a solo trek to locate cough syrup with menthol at the Flamingo shopping area.   It was a shop meant to restock yachts I would guess, their cough syrup was $25 but was much more effective than the small $23 bottle on the ship.

Thanks for the Cares and Celebrations reports for us @JazzyV all the while suffering yourself with the leg pain.    @puppycanducruise sympathy on the passing of your dear friend.

@RMLincoln you are such a good sister to help out your DB's family.   @ORTravelGal welcome to the Daily!   Prayers for everyone on our care list and the people in war zones, Ukraine and the innocents in Gaza.  Prayers for the lost souls in Sydney.

@marshhawk  Do you have chipmunks?   John had a hole in his concrete driveway where they had built a big burrow under the concrete and it collapsed.  I would guess not with all your kitties, but you take such good care of them maybe they get too lazy to hunt.

Today is fertilizing my plant sale plants before the wind picks up.  We had 60 mph wind gusts yesterday, the power blinked off an on right when I was pulling the osso bucco out of the oven.   Fancy dinner last night, Polish Sausage from Costco tonight.   I will be stuck to the TV a lot today, the Grand National Steeplechase at Aintree, The Masters and more horse racing from Keeneland, all while cleaning house.   Nancy

We have been to Aruba many times.  The first time was in 1991, on the Carnival Tropicale at spring break with our 13 and 14-year old DDs.  This was at a time when you could book a cabin when you were 18, so it was a wild cruise.  One group of college kids were thrown off the ship in St. Thomas, less than 24 hours after sailing from San Juan.  Just after that cruise, Carnival  changed the rules that if you were under 21 there had to be someone 25+ in the cabin.

Most of our pictures are the old fashion ones that are in photo albums.  However, I do have some to share.  We always rent a car in Aruba, so we have a lot of pictures outside Oranjestad.  Some of the pictures were taken in January 2020, on our cruise on the Rotterdam, which turned out to be our last cruise for a while and the last time on the Rotterdam.

The first two pictures were taken in San Nicolas at the south end of the island, near the refinery.  Built in 1924, at one time it was the largest refinery complex in the world.  It was shut down in 1985.  As of January 2020, the facility was a transfer and storage facility.  Charlie's Bar is a well known watering hole in San Nicolas.  Unfortunately, we are always in San Nicolas before the bar opens.

Good morning. Sunny here at current temp is 44F. It will reach high 60's this afternoon. I'll take it.

My agenda for the day is to get the two suitcases from the Grand Australia unpacked and maybe get to the store. The latter may wait until tomorrow morning. I think I am feeling a bit off due to the change in altitude. 3+ months at sea level and now back to 6200+ feet. Or maybe, just maybe, I am getting older. It is going to take me some time to bring order out of the chaos of the house.

Good Morning,

Thanks for all the thoughts, prayers, and kind words.  I slept about 4 hours with the cat waking me at 5, not a bad thing, Dad was a night owl and during the course of his illness it was important that my schedule match his, I'm happy I can get back to my early to bed early to rise routine.

My Mom and her husband will be over today to bring the groceries that they were planning on dropping off anyway, as it was difficult for me to leave even for a moment. The funeral director is supposed to be calling.  And I'm continuing the depressing task of locating friends on Dad's phone that I'm not aware of.

Dad's priest assured me yesterday that the schedule next week is wide open and not to worry about the details, he said the backup is usually with the cemetery, so that'll need to be scheduled and then we'll work backward from there.  I'm assuming the funeral home handles those arrangements, I would hope they did for the prices they charge.

Tomorrow I need to go out and find some clothes for him to wear, we've had nothing but hospital attire for the last two years, the few clothing items of Dad's that I still have most definitely will not fit, even though I've heard funeral homes can sometimes work their magic.

So again thanks so much for the outpouring of condolences, it means so much to me.

All the best,

Bruno

@VMax1700 was in Aruba on March 18, 2016 on Oosterdam!  We were there the same day on Westerdam.  Here is a photo of the two ships together

I remember that day!  It was a lot of fun.  That was our third visit to Aruba out of 5 in total.  First was in 2008 on Celebrity Galaxy.  Aruba was actually our very first cruise port call ever!  Since then we have visited on Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, and Koningsdam twice.  I hope we can go back again but DW is anti long distance flights, so we will have to negotiate.

@atexsixsorry to read about the loss of your dad.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I didn't know the history of National Borinqueneers Day, but I sort of recognized the reference because a Riqueño restaurant here is called Boricana.

The goat-cheese chart with Swiss chard sounds interesting, and I can get chard. I might like the cocktail, once. For a red blend based on Bordeaux varieties, Millers Cove Red from  Keuka Spring Vineyards, $25. I haven't been to Oranjestad but it's in my itinerary for December.

Scrabble day-haven’t played in a few years but my most memorable game was one Christmas playing with two nieces and a nephew where we allowed words in English, German, and French. That was fun.

well, I broke my own schedule today. I deep cleaned the master bedroom so started at the back, again! But in my Defense I decided to replace the flannel sheets with the cotton sheets so all that flannel dust had to be dealt with. Took me a couple of hours. Now I only have the drawers left to sort thru. Resting now and having an early lunch before a tackle the rest of the house, but only superficially today!

@atexsixmy condolences. Hard to lose a parent at any age and you were a good carer to your father. Before you buy anything check with the funeral home because they can do wonders with things. As you said they charge enough. Our funeral home was so helpful last may when my father passed away quite suddenly.

prayers for all who need them and a shoutout to those celebrating it cruising.

Dismal looking in north Jersey but not raining.

The Daily is a great lift to my spirit with everyone’s memories of fun times and looking ahead to new adventures. Yes, Life is Good!🌈  That’s so important to remember at times when life is waning in loved ones.

Thanks for posting here as well as the main board Bruno @atexsix.  Again, my condolences. I’m glad you have your mom’s help and the funeral home too. No matter how long the journey to the end, we’re never prepared for the impact.

My condolences to other who are dealing with losses. Hugs!

Our first visit to Aruba was on our second cruise, first was Alaska then Panama Canal transit stopping in Oranjestad. 2004. We did a ship excursion with my first snorkel.  The best memory was wading from the beach as far as we were comfortable and letting schools of small silver fish swim around us. It was magical being an “island” engulfed in their shimmer. After that I decided I needed an underwater camera.
On subsequent visits I did taxi tours to the lighthouse, aloe farms, fun shopping -still enjoying my tie-dyed Aruba beach dress and delft souvenirs. On our most recent visit there we took the bus to “Nancy’s” 😉 casino on the beach and rented see-through kayaks. We didn’t see much but it was a fun adventure.

Today I’ll email all the cousins what to anticipate for the services my brother and niece expect. Talked with siblings last night about it all. Of course we can’t anticipate the timing but it’ll be a morning viewing followed by a Mass at their church at 11 then lunch, so everyone coming from our side of the family will need accommodations which I need to research, and directions….. I just hope we can make it and the timing doesn’t conflict with DH’s eye surgery in Maryland but what will be will be. My “angel messages” that I pick up on all the time reassure me that it’ll be ok!  One foot in front of the other.

Blessings to all in need of healing, comfort or hope near and far, for my country and your country!
Cheers to our cruisers heading out or heading home, and all away for smooth travels!
A toast to those celebrating 🥂.
Welcome to the new folks here, I’m not at my best to get names and blue bubbles but thank you for trusting us enough to jump in!

Thanks all for being here with your caring support. When my niece was saying it was amazing how certain things fell into place, I said there are a lot of folks pulling for you!  More than she realized!
Enjoy something special today!
Extra hugs to Jacqui, Terry, Tana, Melissa, Karen, Terri, Bruno, anyone who needs one!
Maureen

Hello, Dailyites!(I have no idea what time it is, anywhere…). Lots of news today, I’m so sorry, Bruno, about your Dear Dad, you did so much for him these last years, it will be a big empty hole in your life for a while, but I hope your wonderful memories of the time with him help.  Lambie, nice to see you here, I’m sorry your sister is having a difficult time with cancer, and Terri and Melanie on the loss of your friends.  A friend in Victoria, Ruth, just lost her DH a few days ago, the day before her 90th birthday .  A hard time for her.  Jacqui, I hope the foot nurse has solved your problem and you can travel pain free.  We are thinking of you.  Terry, I think of Tana so often, and all you do for her and the teenager.  You are wonderful, I think we all agree!

Here on the NS, we are having a quiet and very restful time. DD has emailed that she thinks we should stay away longer, so she must be managing okay with her broken shoulder!  We had the Mariner Recognition Event today, and our friend Jane said it was the best meal we’ve had so far on the cruise.  I will try to post the menu and some pictures, if I can.  Tonight we will definitely want to eat light!

Good morning all!

When I woke up this morning I heard a noise downstairs.  Unfortunately it was the Eufy Robovac running around again (when we came home from being away for 3 months we found it in the middle of the living room with a dead battery). 😉  It's only the 3rd time it's done this since we got it last year, so not sure what to do.  After Googling it, I found that others have had the same problem.  I only bought it because my sister raved about hers...but I'm thinking it's more trouble than it's worth!  😅

Good selection of days.  My sister and I play Scrabble at family gatherings, and it can get quite rowdy. 😉  Will pass on the food, drink and red wine.  Not a big fan of the Caribbean, we've been to Oranjestad only once.  Thank you Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser and Sandi @StLouisCruisers for the great photos.

Yesterday I got all 4 bags unpacked other than DH's clothes (he's working yesterday and today at the Mariners games) and got the laundry done.  So today it's gardening!  Today and tomorrow are supposed to be very nice -- I may even visit the nursery to pick up some annuals.

Welcome to the Daily @ORTravelGal!  We're happy to have you here.

Sandi @StLouisCruisers do you take Lisinopril for blood pressure by any chance?  It's well-known to cause a cough (I won't take it because I had an annoying cough when taking it).

Bon Voyage Maxine @AncientWanderer!

@Cruzin Terri I'm very sorry to hear about the death of your friend Anita.

Bruno @atexsix Condolences on the death of your Dad.  You were an amazing, loving caregiver.

Melanie @puppycanducruise Condolences on the death of your friend.

Welcome home @ocean sounds, @SusieKIslandGirl and @Heartgrove!

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

Lunch for me is usually a piece of fruit or something light. I'd never heard of the Borinqueneers before today; they deserve a day. I haven't played Scrabble in ages, although I still have it in a cabinet with some other board games. Interesting quote, although I think most people have a few regrets. Maybe on the meal, pass on the drink and yes to the wine (if someone's buying it for me). I have been to Oranjestad. The "Messiah" is a favorite of mine.

Finally the rain has stopped. However it is very windy and I hope trees don't fall on power lines. A lot of downtown is flooded, as it's at the confluence of 3 rivers, and they peaked above flood stage last night. Also lots live near creeks and have flooded yards and basements. Luckily I'm on higher ground. I slept a little better (5 hours total) in part due to Benadryl taken for my injection. BFF will be coming over later to help move some stuff back into the 3 rooms.

@AncientWanderer Bon Voyage!

@atexsix Bruno, my sincere condolences on the passing of your Dear Dad. You were so involved in his care for a long time, and I know it meant the world to him.

@aliaschief Your upcoming tour to see the Taj Mahal sounds fabulous!

@grapau27 Thanks for the explanations.

@ORTravelGal Welcome to the Daily! All are welcome to post here, as long as their posts are friendly.

@puppycanducruise Condolences on the loss of such a young friend.

@smitty34877 I'm glad the nurse was able to get in to see Tana, and that she thought Tana looked a little better. Continued prayers.

@kazu I'm happy to hear that the nurse was so thorough and has a plan to get you pain free. About the iPad,  I am able to cut and paste from it, but the formatting does not come over. So anything that is bolded does not paste as bolded. It worked before the iPadOS 17.4.1, so something changed with the update. For now I'll use the laptop to post the Cares List.

@LambKnuckles I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Prayers for her.

@marshhawk I hope the guy shows up and that your driveway gets fixed satisfactorily.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Lovely photos.

@RMLincoln Blessings to you as you help the family during this difficult time.

@Vict0riann Thanks for checking in.

Welcome home @ocean sounds, @SusieKIslandGirl and @Heartgrove's DW Sue and DSIL.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those with something to Celebrate.

I read this with my morning coffee, VERY sad.  It hit home even harder because we were just in Honolulu in February on the Koningsdam with several other Dailyites.

Welcome to all new folks.  I can say that this is the MOST welcoming GROUP I have encountered anyplace.  It doesn't matter if you are a lurker or a poster everyone is so kind unlike many other places.

Prayers for all those in need.

We have begun our summer workamping gig and we love it.  Same place as last summer as we were asked to return.  I have 3 cruises booked for 2025 that this summer gig will fund!

Happy Saturday to everyone....remember memories last a lifetime, stuff does not!

Good morning to all and thanks for the daily and fleet report.  I rarely have lunch (or breakfast) and I don't play scrabble.  So those days can be celebrated by others.  Interesting to learn about the Borinqueneers; I will gladly celebrate their day.  I disagree with the quote though I am what I am because of the moments in my life - even the multitude of bad ones - sooooooo...... hmmmmm.  The meal sounds interesting, as well as the drink!  The wine - ok, I will just take a glass; I can afford that!!  Awh, Messiah - love Handel!!  Never been to the port.

It should be a beautiful day today; presently 67F (at 0840) heading up to mid 80s under sunny skies.  Door and windows are open to bring in the fresh air.  But yesterday did me in; I can't do compressions in CPR like I used to.  So today will be a recovery day; in fact, I didn't even go to the gym.  I think I will just putter around the house or maybe delete all the work I did overseas that I have kept on my external hard drive.  It is 1TB and I only have 53 GB left so it will clear up a lot of space.  Why I am keeping those things I have no idea.  Well, maybe I do; it is a memory of probably the best 10 years of my life and I got to do thinks I never thought I could and start seeing the world.  😔

Thoughts to those on the care list and those who have lost loved ones and/or dear friends.  Cheers to those celebrating:  @AncientWanderer Bon Voyage!!  Oh, and the new dailyites!!
