Blackout cocktail:

Introducing the "Blackout" cocktail, a tantalizing blend of flavors that promises to make a lasting impression. This cocktail boasts the bold tang of lime juice and the subtle sweetness of simple syrup, perfectly complemented by the botanical notes of gin and the rich depth of blackberry brandy. Served over ice and garnished with a slice of lime or fresh blackberries, the "Blackout" cocktail is a sophisticated libation that's sure to leave a memorable mark on your palate. Whether you're hosting a dinner party or simply unwinding after a long day, this drink is the perfect way to elevate your cocktail experience.

Ingredients

3/4 oz. lime juice
3/4 oz. simple syrup
1 1/2 oz. gin
1 1/2 oz. blackberry brandy

Directions

In a cocktail shaker with ice, add gin, blackberry brandy, lime juice, and simple syrup.
Shake well until thoroughly chilled.
Strain the mixture into a glass filled with ice,, and garnish with fresh blackberries or a slice of lime.

Screenshot 2024-04-13 at 6.21.21 AM.png

I don’t think I want to drink a cocktail called Blackout. Maybe it should be called Passout Drunk.

We have been to Aruba four times.

Our trips to Oranjestad, Aruba were in 2006 (Crown Princess, 2016 (Westerdam),  2019 (Rotterdam) and 2022 (Volendam).  Imagine my surprise on a previous date for port of the day, when I read @VMax1700 was in Aruba on March 18, 2016 on Oosterdam!  We were there the same day on Westerdam.  Here is a photo of the two ships together.

The one on the left is Oosterdam

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

Wish we'd known you then @VMax1700 as our Daily friend!  Anyway, we enjoyed watching the parade go by.  Actually we were there when they were setting up.  The classic car parade was a favorite.  We saw two of those light blue Thunderbirds that day and were amazed this small island had duplicate Thunderbirds.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

Liked the motorcycles too.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

I took a photo of this car because my first car was a silver 1968 Camaro, though it was a Rally Sport and not an SS.  I bought it off the showroom floor about a week after getting my driver's license at age 18.  I was working at Proctor and Gamble and needed a car to get to work in downtown St. Louis.

Getting ready for some marching and playing.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

We saw this pelican, and I noticed a big iguana in the upper left of the photo on a rock, trying to blend in.

Onward in our exploration.  This is City Hall.  It formerly was owned by Dr. Eloy Arends, but was sold to the government of Aruba in 1986 because his heir (son Jesus Arends) could no longer afford the maintenance.  It was restored in 1997 and converted into City Hall.  Pretty striking building IMO.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

We were first in Oranjestad in 2006 when we took our DD along on a Crown Princess cruise.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

That trip she did a little souvenir shopping for her kiddos.  If you can't find it here, you can't find it anywhere!

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

I loved those Camaro’s of that time period, IIRC 1967 was the first year for the Camaro.

Good Saturday morning and thanks to Rich, Roy, Vanessa, Ann, Dixie & Debbie.

Great collection of days and love the Langtry quote.  The meal sounds yummy - no Swiss chard though so maybe I will have fish and Chips.

No appointments since it’s Saturday but I do have errands to do to purchase things the foot nurse specialist wants me to use.  She was very thorough - far more than the podiatrist - spent an hour and 1/2 with me tending to the feet.  In a nutshell - what the podiatrist said was healed is not and other diagnoses were incorrect.  Julia has taken care of a number of things and is confident that the infection should clear in a few days with the new protocol and I will hopefully be pain free before Friday. It’s a long list which I don’t want to bore you with but the podiatrist is lucky I’m not litigious & I am lucky I went to the nurse. There will be more to do when I get back but I am good to go.

The sun is actually shining - it’s a surprise.  If it stays that way, I will hobble out to the back yard when I get back and do some more clean up.  It’s hard to find it all in snow and ice 😉

Prayers for those on the Care list, those suffering losses, grief, pain, health issues, worries & those that need them 🙏  Cheers to those celebrating & cruising 🥂

Good morning, everyone!

The rain has left us for a while and we have bright, sunshiny skies.  Temps are supposed to get up to the mid 60s today, so a beautiful day in store for mid-Michigan.  Nothing is on the agenda for today other than a trip to the gym.  I like these kinds of days.

@puppycanducruise My condolences on the loss of your friend.  She was so young.

@AncientWanderer Bon Voyage.  I hope you enjoy every moment of your cruise.

Today's meal is interesting.  I don't know that I'd actually make it, but I would try it if it was made for me.   It looks easy enough and I'm guessing you could make it easier with a prepared pie crust.  https://www.stephaniesdish.com/recipe/swiss-chard-and-double-goat-cheese-tart/

swisschardandgoatcheesetart1.jpeg.b1cb222c8d52c7ca73c3a53d2fe2be57.jpeg

This next one contains leeks and pine nuts.  Makes it interesting.  https://www.healthyseasonalrecipes.com/swiss-chard-tart-with-chevre-and-leeks/

And here's one with a current and pine nut relish.  https://joanne-eatswellwithothers.com/2019/01/swiss-chard-and-goat-cheese-tart-with-a-currant-pine-nut-relish.html

I hope this has found all of you well and I wish you all a wonderful day.

Never ever think that!  Everyone is welcome to the Daily and no one is ever out of line (unless they get political 😂)

Most people were new here at one time or the other 🙂 😉

I love the quote about not regretting one moment of life. It is worth remembering!

Feel free to "barge in"  anytime.  We're a friendly group.

Good morning.  Thanks for the Report.

It's been very windy here, we'll have to go out and check for any damage when it gets light.  I'll be glad when it's over.   Had some sad news yesterday, an acquaintance has passed away from breast cancer, she was only 46.  She was a lovely woman and will be missed.

I guess today would be a good day to go out for lunch then play some scrabble.

I wish I could agree with the quote, but I have a few regrets.

The meal sounds good, looking forward to seeing recipes.  The drink sounds interesting, I hope the wine is too.

We were in Aruba many years ago on a partial Panama Canal cruise.

Prayers for everyone.

Have a wonderful day.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Condolences and prayers for her and her family.

I have been welcomed here and LOVE THIS Daily!!!  God Bless each and everyone of you!!!

I willingly and gratefully accept and don the title of Dailyite!!!

kazu -- I have played my Wordle and will play Words with Friends all throughout the day!!!

I think I'd like to be on the Noordam in American Samoa!!!

aliaschief --  I'm quite jealous of your travel to Agra!  I saw the Taj Mahal in the early 70s and how beautiful is it!!  The feeling and the spirit and the love that encloses it!!!  We, too, began our trip in Mumbai -- then Bombay, and we took trains or planes to see the country and spent a week in a houseboat in Kashmir.  Such diversity in this country!!  From Delhi to Bombay it was a vast discovery and then the pampering of Kashmiri ways on Lake Dal!!!  And now, the population has grown everywhere is crowded!  ENJOY your visit!

summer slope -- WOW!!!  THAT'S a cocktail!!  I'll be sticking to my iced tea!!!  but in Texas, that's my choice of most days!!!

OR TravelGal --  My sister lives in The Hauge.  She worked in Rotterdam till she retired and loves living on the North Sea, now.  I'm quite jealous of your stay!!  I miss her terribly and, as she is fighting cancer, now, I know her days are numbered!  We talk all the time and text daily.

A 1968 Camaro SS was my first car too!  I am not quite old enough to have purchased it new, but I did buy mine in 1980.   Unfortunately, I sold it in 1988 due to being away at college.  I have two 1968 Camaros now (one RS/SS - picture attached, and an SS) , but not my first one.

Thank you Lambie.

I'm sad to hear your dear sister is fighting cancer.

I wish you both had been in Rotterdam when our ship P&O Iona docked April 3rd and 4th and we could have met you both.

I seldom eat lunch, but will happily celebrate it; I didn't know about Borinqueneers Day - definitely worthy of recognition; have never played Scrabble - am I the only one?🤷‍♀️

Pass on the meal, drink & wine sound good although the wine is pricey, most recent stop in Oranjestad was Feb 2023 but no pictures to post as they're on my computer. I have a bracelet I bought there that I wear everyday. Thanks for the pictures @StLouisCruisers

Hugs and condolences @puppycanducruise @Cruzin Terri and @atexsix

Hugs and prayers @smitty34877 as your family cares for Tana.

There was a shooting at a local high school (Wilmer-Hutchins) yesterday; thank goodness nobody was killed. The person shot is recovering in the hospital. Lord keep our children and educators safe 🙏

Welcome @LambKnuckles and @ORTravelGal👋

@Denise T and I must be on the same wavelength this morning 🤭 using the same Bon Voyage for @AncientWanderer

Today is finish the taxes, start a very long survey book I agreed to do, and wait for the yard guy - don't know if he'll be here today or tomorrow, but he's in for a tough job as backyard still has standing water. I will give him a nice tip if he is able to do it all. Also going to read up on the eye procedure that's being done Mon; I think it's just an injection w/the more complicated one starting next week.

Currently 59° headed to windy 82°.

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

Good Saturday Morning Dailyites! Computer says it 53 and sunny. DH had to run to the bank this morning, and he said, whatever, it's cold out!  Our windy days just don't stop.

The guy is supposed to come today to fix the hole in the driveway.  I hope he fixes the whole hole, which is now a foot deep.  The plan is to dig up the driveway up to where the initial crack is, and then to where below the hole is, and fill in with sand, gravel and then pour concrete on top.

I'm pretty sure that our neighbor who shares a side by side driveway will be happy for us not to use his anymore, and I just hope it lasts long enough until our final move.  BUT he was supposed to be here an hour ago.

So far all I can say about the very pregnant tiny cat on the porch is, that she is lonely for all the male companionship she has had for months, and that no vet is available to perform a kitten abortion at this time, that she does use her litter box, she eats, and she is very nervous.  She hisses through the glass at the orange boys, and remembers Tigger from her time on the streets.

Looks like kittens are in my future.

Tigger is like having a moving dishwasher, if you put a plate down and turn your back, well,  the meal is gone.  He doesn't care what it is.  Today he had peanut butter, and butter with crumbs from a whole wheat english muffin.

I read the end of yesterdays Daily, @RMLincoln what a long hard day you had yesterday, but being with family is so important, and stepping in to help with calls, and texts and hugs was so important.  Bless you.  And how wonderful that your DH's vision is now good enough that he can drive!

Plans for today?  Putz around the house, do laundry, clean up piles of paper, pay bills, go to the post office, (well I may put that off until Monday, so that I actually have something planned for the afternoon.) DH has a PET scan on Monday Morning.
