Thanks @grapau27 for educating me on tea day; that's an important cause.

Pass on the meal (although @dfish pics are pretty) and drink, would try the wine, not been to the port and look forward to the pictures (@StLouisCruisers yours are lovely).

This morning I bet the surgeon says my shoulder is still not moving enough for surgery, but 🤞 I'm wrong. And if I am, that he signs the papers. Sometimes it's good to be wrong - today would be one of those times.🙄

After Dr is a stop by tire shop to get a nail removed from tire; hope they don't try to sell me a new one. Then will go by the produce store for radishes. That's it for today - after all that driving, I'll be doubling up on the eye drops.

🙏 all goes well for @JazzyV BFF and @kazu today and @ger_77 DH tomorrow.

Currently 75° headed to cloudy 88° with rain starting tomorrow. DH needs to get the flowers in the ground so they can benefit from the rain.

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

If people want to be Raptured I guess that is OK for them. I'm planning a world takeover for right after it.

The menu suggestion is one that I make often. The technique is called en papillote, referring to the original wrap of parchment paper. It is hard for me to think about deliberately adding tannin from another plant to wine. For a Sauvignon Blanc, I might consider Rooster Hill Vineyards 2020, from Keuka Lake. "Grassy and grapefruit aromas. A complex palate of lemongrass, grapefruit and herbal notes, with a subtle spice on the finish and lingering flavors of apricot and bitter almond," $24.99.

I slept through the night, which is so unfamiliar that I'm discombobulated. I did remember to take the trash out.

Good morning from a cloudy central Texas.  I think I'm beginning to sound like a broken record again with the cloudy skies.  It is already 76F with 92% humidity and a dew point of 73F.  Our predicted high is 89F with 10+mph winds.  Our rains will return tomorrow night and also Thursday and Friday nights.  I'm glad I got the yard work, plus the house and driveway washing finished this weekend.  Not much on today's agenda except catching up on some things on the computer.  I'll probably get doughnuts for breakfast since they are softer and easier to chew than my cereal or toast.  At least, that's a good excuse.  If and when the prescriptions from the dentist's office are ready, I'll head to W-M to pick them up.  I got about 8 hours sleep last night thanks to the pain med that makes you sleepy, but it wore off about 4:30.  I took some ibuprofen in the larger dose the dentist recommended and got another 2 1/2 hours sleep.  Right now, I am still not hurting and have just a bit of swelling, so it will be the ice pack again today for the swelling.  It was recommended that I sleep with my head elevated above my heart to help keep the swelling to a minimum, and I managed to sleep with two pillows.

Two of the days will be honored, but not the first one.  That is something that should not be predicted.  Patches are very useful.  I hope the working conditions for the tea workers are humane now.

The quote is interesting and one we could aspire to achieve.

The meal sounds good, but today I think I'll finish the mac and cheese and jello from last night to play it safe.  We'll pass on the drink and the wine.

We visited Rabaul in 2005 as part of the Pacific Princess Islands of the Pacific Theater cruise.  I have a lot of pictures to share as we had a very interesting day on the island.

Amelia Earhart's 1932 trans-Atlantic solo flight marked a great day in aviation and women's history.

@MISTER 67  Congratulations on a great day yesterday in spite of your knees.

@grapau27  Graham, thank you for the great explanations of all the days.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I hope you get over your cold soon.  Thanks for the pictures from Rabaul.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, best wishes for a successful surgery for BFF today.

@ger_77  Gerry, I hope your DH is well enough for his surgery today, and that it is successful, with a quick recovery.

@Heartgrove  Jack, I'm glad Sam is showing no ill effects from his fall, and I bet since it's getting warmer, he is glad to get rid of his winter coat.  Congratulations on booking the winter cruise.

@ottahand7  Nancy, glad you are just about settled in for the summer.

@1ANGELCAT  Such a sad story about the Singapore airline flight and the one killed and so many injured.

@smitty34877  Terry, I hope the teenager and his girlfriend have a great time at her prom.

@kazuJacqui, I hope you get some answers at the appointment today, and that the drive is not too difficult.

@Haljo1935  Elizabeth, I hope your appointment with the surgeon goes well today.

Good morning Dailyites.

I had a sleepless night for some reason. Kinda crabby til my coffee kicks in.

Today I have a haircut, market, me and MSH and BFF have pedicures, then a late lunch.

I've tried multiple times to reserve P.G. on our Sept/Oct cruise.I get a message that something went wrong and try again. I sent an email to our PCC to book for us and she's getting the same message. So I'll call ship's services this morning and see what's up.

Prayers lifted for those going for procedures, surgeries and check ups. Thinking of Maurice. Darn it Sandi! Get over that cold!

Blessings!!

On June 11, 2005, the Pacific Princess docked in Rabaul located on New Britain Island, which is part of Papua New Guinea.  Until the 1994 eruption of the two volcanos which buried the town, it was the capital of New Britain Island.  Since 1994, Vulcan has been quiet, but Tavurvur has been active.  In 2005, Tavurvur was sending out ash, which covered the streets and the ship.  After the 1994 eruption, the ash was about 15 feet deep in places, and they plowed a path through the ash to open the coast road, leaving high walls of ash on either side.

In WWII, New Britain Island was never retaken from the Japanese.  Instead, the US captured the islands that ringed NB, and opened airfields and Navy bases on the island.  This resulted in cutting the Japanese supply line to NB and ending any Japanese military activity.

As I said earlier, I have a lot of pictures from Rabaul and our tour of the island, and I'll divide the pictures into two posts.

These pictures are of the town from the ship, and the dancers that greeted our arrival.

A couple of streets in town.  Note all the ash on the roads and on the dock in the previous pictures.  The ash was from the activity from Tavurvur.

The first stop on our tour was one of the barge tunnels.  The Japanese would drag the barges into the tunnels for protection when they were not in use.  The barges were dragged along rails by Indian slaves.  The first picture is one of the tunnels which we saw as we sailed that afternoon.

The second stop on our tour of New Britain Island and Rabaul was the Kokopo War Museum.   Kokopo was named the capital of NB after the 1994 eruption and it is down the coast road from Rabaul.  The museum over looks a beach resort.  Rabaul is a tourist destination with resorts, snorkeling and other activities.  Before heading to the museum, we got a look at the resort and an opportunity for shopping.

What was supposed to be our final stop, the Bita Paka War Cemetery.  The Indian slaves were also buried here.

It turns out, our final stop was on the side of the road on the way back to Rabaul.  Our van had a flat tire, and it took a while to get it changed.  Ironically, we had to change vans before we left the port as the first van had a flat tire.  I can attest that the spare might have come from "A Christmas Story" since I had a good view of it on the tour.  The spare tire was hanging from the back of the front seat just in front of me.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!   We've had a lot of false raptures - Y2K, the Mayan Calendar, etc.; if/when it happens, there's not a whole lot anyone will be able to do about it, so go ahead and enjoy life.  I need a patch that will do all my housework/spring cleaning for me - anyone got an idea where I can buy one?  I make tea for us every morning; in fact, I told DH I had to book another cruise because I was out of Bigelow's I Love Lemon tea that I normally drink on a BHB.  He just rolled his eyes, so I ordered more from Amazon.

We've got a grey, cloudy, rainy day in the offing today.  Because we heard it was only going down to +3 overnight, we decided to leave all the plants on the deck last night rather than bringing them all into the house.  We closed all the windows and closed the heavy curtains, hoping that would suffice to keep the heat in - as I look out this morning, everyone looks happy out there, and it's still raining, so it means it didn't freeze overnight.

Yesterday, to get DH out of the house, we took a drive to a couple of grocery run pop-up greenhouses to see what we could find.  I drove around all of them so DH could get a good idea what was there and if he saw anything that piqued his interest, I went to inspect.  It turned out to be a good method, because at the end of a couple of hours we had the back of the Ford Escape filled with plants and now we just have to wait for good weather so I can put them in our outdoor pots.

Thanks for your thoughts on DH; he had a bit of a cough yesterday morning, but that was it for the majority of the day.  He's been continuing with the Tetley Immune Tea, oranges and zinc, and hopefully he's got it under control.  I didn't hear him cough last night, but that's not unusual - I sleep like the dead most nights.  I'm pretty sure tomorrow will be a "go" for his valve replacement.

@JazzyVyou're going to be a tired girl by the end of the day; would you consider heading out to your car and having a nap later, rather than sitting in a hospital waiting room?

@kazusending prayers for answers about your foot today.

@Heartgrovethanks for the photo of Sam yesterday; although I'm more of a cat person, I can see why you love him so much - I would, too!

@StLouisCruiserssorry to hear you've got a cold - like you need that on a cruise!

@ottahand7the other day you mentioned vole damage; this winter we had voles create a mess on our front, side and back lawns.  We've been in our house for 41 years and have never had them before - I've bought lawn seed to cover the patches they carved out and will have to figure out what to put on the lawn before next winter so they don't come back.  I've heard that garlic water deters them, but that would involve lots of garlic!  LOL

@Haljo1935good luck at the doctor's today.

@Quartzsite CruiserI'm glad you had a good number of hours of sleep - hopefully the extra pain meds keep you comfortable.

Not much on our agenda today, just kicking around - DH will work on his book, I'll do some laundry and work on more blankets.  I counted up and I've got another 15 ready to go whenever I decide to take them over to the distribution centre.  I'm not sure about the drink of the day, will let others enjoy the wine, but I do like the recipes for today's menu suggestion.  We eat a lot of salmon, so looking at the recipes, I'm going to thaw a couple of filets and will likely make the second recipe, accompanied by mashed potatoes and green beans that we'll enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in pain, in grief, in need and in the paths of destructive storms or fires.  Cheers to all who have celebrations happening today.

Smooth Sailing! ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Good Morning Dailyites, and thank you to all who contribute each day. I read it daily and always enjoy.

Thank you to @Quartzsite Cruiser and @StLouisCruisers for the great pictures of today’s destination.

With a British mother I was raised on tea and remain addicted to this day. @grapau27 thank you for the information. This is a good reminder for many of the things we buy these days. We get our tea now from a local company Murchies, (worth a visit if you’re ever in Vancouver or Victoria). I hope it’s ethically grown, but now I will check to make sure.
We eat a lot of salmon in this house when it’s in season. Love wild sockeye.
It’s a rainy day here in Vancouver and as our most recent cruise ended on Saturday, I’m still trying to get motivated to finish unpacking.
Have a great day everyone.

Good morning. Sunny and dry today with high predicted in low 70's. We did have a light freeze last night. No rain in our forecast for the next week or so. Spring is running behind in this area. My white lilac which usually bloom in mid-April just started to flower. I was afraid it was dead.  The air tanker and fire fighting helicopters arrived at the airport for the summer.... they are stationed there every summer. The fire danger in this area is high. And high winds are predicted for Thursday. I need to get my evacuation kit together.... dog and people essentials.

Little planned for today. I have grooming appointments for the dogs this afternoon. And I need to hang up clothes I washed yesterday and left hanging over chairs in the dining room when I ran out of steam in the late afternoon. Otherwise, just puttering about doing a bit of this and a bit of that. Hope all doctors appointment and surgeries go well today.

Susan

Good morning and thanks for the daily and fleet report.  I scoff at the mention of "rapture", will celebrate tea workers' rights (thanks @grapau27 for the explanation) and I do use patches on clothes that I love but have worn out!  I do believe we should leave a legacy/do things that will continue on once we are gone so I heartedly agree with the quote.  As @kochleffel stated, en papillote is the technique and that is the normal way I usually cook salmon so I downloaded the delicious recipes!  Not sure about the drink, no to the wine and never been to the port.  Yah Amelia Earhart!!

ScreenShot2024-05-20at09_16_11.thumb.png.8a7def8b16b152e44cc09b40785de9c8.png

We had some wind yesterday and that will continue for the next couple of days. Right now it is 72F with only 27% humidity - gorgeous! - and it will climb to the low 90s.  I was a slug yesterday so I got to get some things accomplished today.  My plan for the gate lock isn't going to work so I have to come up with an alternative plan using the lock I bought.  Need to get some D batteries for the motion sensor light and then maybe install it today; we will see.

ScreenShot2024-05-20at09_18_18.thumb.png.d5eeb548e2cc4c78f909d30cd92f230b.png

I have recently tore an earring hole that I need repaired so I inquired with a dermatologist/plastic surgeon to see about the approximate cost.  Next appt with them is late June (that's ok), I had to put a $100 reservation fee down (which would go to the cost of the procedure) and, after sending them pictures of my ear, was told it would be ~$1000!  Hmmm, not sure I want to pay that much so I will make an appt with a general trauma surgeon at the hospital to see what they say.  Or maybe I will just leave it that way!!

ScreenShot2024-05-20at09_19_20.thumb.png.a4d2092eacf6ba24e74d5a727cc71e7e.png

@JazzyV I hope the surgery for your BFF goes well and @kazu I hope your doc appt gives you some answers/options.  I heard about the Singapore airline incident and they think the UK man died from a heart attack.  So sad.  Cheers to those celebrating and have a great day everyone!

Hot today!  Summer temps in north NJ. Not ready for summer yet.

Happy to celebrate first solo flights across Atlantic, both Lindbergh and A.E!  Risk-taking pioneers paved the way!

Yesterday’s eye doctor visit was pretty good. We’re not “there” yet but hanging in. He said eye is healing well, the new drain is open and flowing, pressure is not as low as desired, after one more week start tapering down the steroids, stay at current regime for now. Hoping it’ll all stabilize lower but it might not be as low as the other eye, which is doing great!  Might have to consider a pressure-lowering med but we’ll wait on that decision. Return 2 weeks. We’re not giving up!  Vanessa, I think keeping DH on the rotation is appropriate. Thanks all for your Amazing support!

Sunday was totally consumed with looking at travel options for my 70th. Started with Ireland tours, then looked at cruises. We put a Hold on a cruise in July/August for the next-to-last cabin that could be selected, not a guarantee, but it didn’t feel joyful. We talked the whole thing through over dinner and late into the night… and let it evaporate. It was an OV, not a good price, not a good time…. what was I thinking?  I dunno, it was all very confusing. DH was so caring helping me sort through unexpected feelings!  But through it all we now have a new PCC so maybe that’ll be a good thing for the future.  We might consider a regional trip. Right now cruising just feels too difficult to get to, far too pricey, too far away!  Last September we went on an Eastern Canada cruise (missed all New England ports due to hurricanes) and struggled to get Wi-Fi connections to track eye pressure readings- tonometer needs Wi-Fi. But we were close to land and managed well enough albeit sporadically. We’ll wait to cruise till the timing is right.

Saturday we found our way to the Newark Performing Arts Center to hear Beethoven’s 3rd. Great music!  Nice venue!  Not too hard to get to and from. It was a “family” concert with good explanations between movements, interesting. But Family meant kids shrieking and screaming, plus the constant parade of parents walking kiddos out and in, and I do mean constant parade- very distracting. So we’re not doing that again. BUT we discovered the NJ-PAC sends a bus to our community for those with subscriptions for their Thursday matinee symphonies!  And the bus charge about equals the parking garage fee we paid, such a deal!  We’ll sign up for next season, starts November.

Following along with all the Dailyites. Lifting up everyone’s needs and hopes. Vanessa and your BFF, Jacqui, Gerry and Maurice, Pennie, Jack’s Sam (oh, I coujd hear his tumble 😱), Elizabeth, Shiel, Annie and Chuck, Terry and Tana, Terri and Jim, Lenda, Sandi, Debbie, Susan… all! (I can keep you all in my heart if not in my brain❤️) from the tops of our heads to the tips of our toes…. situations of loss, anxiety, frustration, despair or danger. Praying for Amazing!  Not giving up!
Hugs to you all, near and far for a good day, and lots of healing, comfort and hope!  Peace in our hearts, families and countries.

Love all the pictures!  Graham, I absorb your beach!
Terry, I too made my prom dress, twice! I hope they have a memorable time!  They sound like very special kids, loving and caring!  You’re doing good things for them and the world! (like the quote says…)
Nancy, sorry about the iris bed, glad the house systems are coming “up” ok!  Always a bit of concern.

Wonderful to hear of celebrations, reminding us all that Life is Good!  🌈

Oh yes, keep the seat belt on even if the sign is off!  Tragic. We all expect to walk off a flight, it’s so much safer than driving to the doctor!

Hug you all, m—

Pennie, the doctor I worked for was also a plastic surgeon. She was excellent with earlobe repair, ones like yours and also the large ring holes (lol, I can’t remember the name!). She charged $500 per ear after a $50 consult but that was 8 years ago. Whoever does the repair make sure they actually cut both sides before suturing it. You have to wait a bit before you can have it re pierced.  I remember a young man having both earlobes repaired after having the large ear holes because he was going into the military.

Good morning and Happy Tuesday. It’s a bright sunshiny day.

Yesterday DM had a dental appointment and always takes antibiotics prior to the appointment. Somehow the home health must have discarded what she had left and she called the dentist office. They wanted her to come in Asap to take it there so that was a scramble to get ready quickly and pick her up. I ended up running errands since the wait was longer. We went to lunch at a seafood restaurant because we wanted lobster but I was also craving meat so ordered surf and turf with a filet as the turf. What came was not edible and not a filet. After alerting our server the manager came over and said he inspects all the beef each day, and even though he never said it I knew he didn’t believe me nor think I knew what I was talking about. I was beyond irritated. Goodness, it wasn’t even cut like a filet. After offers of a new steak I just asked for the steak charge to be taken off. Turns out they couldn’t do that so we ended up getting the entire entree taken off. Then, a new steak shows up, and it’s a filet!  Soft as butter and cooked perfectly. We packaged it up and I’m having it for lunch today. I am still ticked off about the whole thing. I’m going to write the restaurant and tell them that this manager not only needs better customer service skills but needs to go to cooking school and learn more about cuts of meat.

Okay, sorry, off my soapbox. I hope everyone has a great day!

Good Tuesday morning.

i was awake at 6 am. Was watching Morning Joe and DH was still asleep.  The plan was to call him at 7:30 am so that we would be ready for the Power Washing guy at 9 am.

Well, at 7:15 am the doorbell rings and guess who?

I was still in my jammies and bathrobe.  Anyway, he was ready to start and since this was an outside job, I let him get started.  He was all done by 10:15 am.

All the porch furniture is back in place as well.

DH was not happy to get up early,

So all is nice and clean and the ACC should be happy.  I already sent the Email to let them know it is done.  Don’t want to be fined.

Next job for today is to get ready for DH’s appointment with the Dermatologist at 3:30.  Have to go to the supermarket as well.

@JazzyV Hope all goes well for BFF today.  Prayers for him and his surgeon.

Got to get moving.

Have a good day everyone,

God Bless,

Terri

Good morning all!

Our sunshine has gone, and it will be a drizzly day today.  Glad I got a lot done outside yesterday.  Now today I can get packed and ready to leave tomorrow for our get-away with the DGSs.  Also will get that haircut!

I know I'm in a very small minority, but I've never cared a lot for tea.  I agree with @Mr. Boston and Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser that Rapture Day isn't something that can/should be predicted.  Patches reminded me of the iron-on patches I had when our children were small -- always a hole to be patched in their jeans. 🙂

I know I would like the NZ wine, will pass on the drink, and would love the first 2 recipes -- yummy!  Tonight we're having sole, unfortunately we don't have salmon right now.  We haven't been to the port, thank you Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser and Sandi @StLouisCruisers for the great photos.

Prayers for all having health problems and surgeries.

Wine of the Day - Loveblock Tee Sauvignon Blanc

SB again?

OK.

We had this one a few months ago.  Mrs. XBGuy REALLY liked it.  This was the last bottle I had and am expecting an email any day now from Quivet announcing the release of their 2023s.

The owner/winemaker of Quivet Cellars is Mike Smith, an Oregon transplant.  Smith Is very highly regarded in the online wine geek community for his Cabernet Sauvignons.  However, I think his white wines are outstanding.  In addition to this SB, he annually releases a couple darned good bottlings of Semillon under his Myriad Cellars label.

McGah Vineyard is an excellent source of Napa Valley fruit.  As you might guess Cabernet Sauvignon is the "money" grape in Napa Valley, and McGah produces superb CS.  You may or may not be aware that in 2020 there were some serious brush fires in Napa Valley.  McGah did take some (thankfully, minor) damage from that terrible event.

Good afternoon! For the first time today I have been able log to onto Cruise Critic. Has anyone else had problems. All I could get was an index listing and when I clicked sign in nothing happened!

One time it showed I was in UK version.

Tomorrow we visit Las Palmas, Canary Islands. We are going on a private wine tasting. It will be nice to see land.

Time for cocktails with friends followed by dinner.

Seeing this is my first time today I’ll try and check up later. Thanks. Bruce

Good morning and thanks all!
I love tea,  probably bordering on obsession.  My current fave is a passion fruit green tea from Taiwan, pricey but wonderful and I feel good about Taiwan as a tea producer.  And Japanese Matcha!
I’m praying all goes well for those healing and for Maurice tomorrow! And for Jacqui today!

@RMLincoln you have struck a chord with me a few times lately.  I so agree about the joy, sometimes it’s not there as travel gets more complicated.  And sometimes it’s the timing.  We chose to cancel a cruise after so many changes and it has been nothing but a hassle,  yesterday we received a cheque for DH FCD,  and now when we checked all have disappeared. Sigh, a phone call I don’t want to make.  We even decided to drive home for 12 hours after our recent one hour flight stretched to eight hours.  I’m hoping you find the right thing and the right time.  For us,  Hawaii is our heaven.  We celebrated a birthday and anniversary there, albeit delayed.

@Sharon in AZ sometimes customer service attitude makes all the difference!  Don’t blame you for being so annoyed,  it should have been made right initially.

have to head out as we get some rare sun, back to rain tomorrow.  Haven’t even got our plants yet!

The museum which houses a lot of war materiel and some local items.  You will notice our "luxury tour buses" in the background of some of the pictures.

Good evening.

We took a picnic to the beach.

As soon as we got near the sea we encountered the infamous North Sea sea fret which is caused by warm air above the cold sea.

Good morning,

It's a soggy day here as @Cruising-along noted. I had a quiet start to the day and am getting ready to head to PT in about 45 minutes.

The salmon recipes look delicious! I'm a "tea granny" from the word go. I have quite a Murchies Tea selection in the cupboard. Today's brew is rather appropriate - "Stormy Weather" blend. I order on-line. With a $50.00 order (Canadian) it's free shipping and it gets here in 2-3 days (DHL usually). With the exchange rate it goes down to less than $40.00. I'll be in Victoria 4 times this summer on cruises but the store closes at 6:00 so that's no good.

After PT today it's getting things done around the house and gathering up what I want to take to Canada on Thursday when I go up to see my mom.

Have a good day!

Karen
