The Fleet Report and Daily for Sunday July 7th, 2024

Recommended Posts

Good morning!

We have a sun shiny start to the day today.  All is well here and our house guest is doing well.  Nothing much planned for the day but this evening our neighbors are coming over for a glass of wine and to sit around our fire table.  In the meantime, we'll be taking Rita on walks.

Today's meal looks good to me.  If you don't like the idea of a peanut dressing, sub in your favorite.  Sorry to those who are allergic to shrimp.  Maybe substitute chicken.  Shrimp Salad

This one looks good with the seared shrimp.  Seared Shrimp Salad

I like the idea of the lime in the dressing on this one.  Use the greens of your choice.  Shrimp Salad with Peanut Lime Dressing

Good Morning from a bright and warm day at the beach

Nice selection of days, although not sure I have been to a dive bar. DH and DD go for walks frequently, although in our case, he pushes her WC.

The meal sounds wonderful. Never been to todays port. Thanks for the pictures.

Played golf yesterday. Tee time was 7:31. It was already warm and no breeze. Our course usually has nice breezes because it is along the River. Not yesterday!

RCL new ship arrived here this week. There will be a big celebration at Jetty Park and the Port. I just cannot imagine being on a ship that big. I prefer small ships.

Today we will be packing. Luggage being picked up on Thursday.

 Stay safe and enjoy today

     Charlene

Good morning. We enjoyed our get together with five neighborhood families. Burgers, dogs hit the spot. We then returned home and you guessed it more Downton Abby! Our Amazon Prime account is getting a workout.

Okay time to head to church. Have a great day and stay safe. Bruce

Happy Sunday!  Thank you to all the regular posters, especially those who post port pictures.  The shrimp with peanut dressing looks particularly good for such a hot day.  I am going to try the last recipe tonight.

Although @grapau27 has provided us with the historical definition of a dive bar, that is not the definition of today’s dive bar.  When I travel I frequently visit dive bars because I prefer to meet local people, not other tourists.  A dive bar opens early.  They have cheap booze. No martinis, no Cosmos. Food is usually bags of pork rinds and pickled eggs in a jar on the bar top. They don't take credit cards. Your feet stick to the floor. Bathrooms are “memorable. They have Keno, a juke box, a pool table. There is probably a bar pet. The bartenders have been there for decades and know everyone. The customers are cold to you at first, but eventually warm up and like to talk when they realize you're "one of them." You get to hear many great stories. Listen. Enjoy.

Positive thoughts to all who are struggling.  Cheers to those who are celebrating.

Good Sunday morning.  Thanks for the Daily and Maps @richwmn.   The last father daughter walk I took with my DD my DM was along too.  We walked to the spot on the lake where we would build our cabin in the future.  It would have been probably in 1995 because my DM passed in 1997. I have a photo of them and it was a very happy memory.   @grapau27 Thanks for Father David's words and also for the real definition of a Dive bar.  I never knew.   An OK quote.  I have been to A Coruna in 2018 and it is a lovely city.  I didn't get any photos as my phone was our navigation device to find our way to Picasso's childhood home.  We plotted a highly rated wine bar but it was closed for their vacation.  I would love to visit again. Thanks everyone for the lovely photos of the city. Thanks for the shrimp recipes @dfish the second one looks wonderful.   @summer slope thanks for the Pina Colada recipe, John is the one who enjoys them on BHBs.  I take a sip.  @cat shepard thanks for researching the SB.  When we are on our 2026 BHB voyage we are going to try to get to some of the vineyards in NZ.  Happily they are much closer to the ports than the ones in Australia.

@JazzyV  Thanks for the Cares and Celebrations reports.  Prayers for Tana, Terry, Terri, Chuck, Annie, Bonnie and Jacqui.  Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own.   Prayers for all in our group who are ailing or grieving.

Our busy day yesterday was fun.  The memorial for my DF who passed at age 98 from Covid was wonderful.  Everyone sharing memories of Frank.  He was definitely a colorful person who had avocado orchards in CA, was a developer in CA and also an active outdoorsman.  Everyone expressed admiration of his energy and activity well into his 90s.   We had to leave after 2 hours to get home to do things before the fireworks dinner.  Our favorite people from the lake were there and a few people from town.  It was a good show that lasted an hour.  The mosquitoes were bad but the zapping tennis racquets were pretty effective.   The starry skies were beautiful when we got home.  I will post a few photos later.  Nancy

Good Sunday Morning Dailyites!  Its 75 and cloudy this morning.  I have not checked the weather forecast in several days, but I'm thinking,  Georgia in Summer, hmmm, hot, hazy chance of pop up showers  every day until mid September.  If things change, I'll let you guys know.

@dfish I'm going for the first recipe, I was going to do salad with shrimp this week, but the peanut dressing clinched it for me.  I see that total time on making it is 10 minutes, but it will be eaten in two minutes.  Well by me, maybe not so much DH.

We went out for an early dinner or dunch as I call it with Donna, who treated us, I wish she wouldn't, but she does, and I had orange chicken, I know not healthy but heck I really hadn't eaten much over the last few days.  Turns out that my tummy problems may have been caused by the coleslaw I made for the 4th.  Donna had been ill too, and DH didnt eat it.

DH finds it hard to make decisions on what he wants to eat, and he eats less than I do, not good as he is 6 feet 2 inches and is now down to 156.  We got to the restaurant, and it's  walk up and order, so I ordered, and he was not ready, then Donna ordered, and he still was not ready. I asked him, if he knew what he wanted, and he asked me, "What do I like?"  We settled on beef, but if he ordered their beef  mongolian style, it came with tons of broccoli, which he doesn't really eat, so I suggested the beef with snow peas, which he does eat.  Well he ate the beef, didnt touch a single pea, and he ate his veggie egg roll, and that was it.  He threw out all the veggies and rice. I dont think he has enjoyed a meal at all in the last month, except for ice cream.

He says he wants to go with me tomorrow for my CT lung scan, but it's at 8 am, we have to leave at 7:30, not sure I will be able to wake him up to go, so I told him, if I cant wake him up, then I go alone.  That I wont be gone long, as I have to come back and walk the dog, immediately after the appointment. I hope the tummy will cooperate.

I hope that those of you in the path of Beryl, are prepared and stay safe, that your rain and wind are not bad.

Good morning everyone.  Thanks for the daily digest, so much to know, eat and drink!

A good day to visit a dive bar and ponder world forgiveness.

I like the quote even though I don’t completely agree with it.

Today’s meal and drink suggestions sound perfect for the warm, humid day that today will be.

 I haven’t been to today’s port.

Today will be the calm before the storm as our furniture and belongings will be delivered.  We only have to install a bracket on the wall in a bedroom where a headboard to a bed will attach.  So far the neighbors that we’ve met have been very nice, takes the sting out of saying goodbye to the ones we left.

Prayers for those on our prayer list.  Cheers to those who are celebrating happy events today!  Bon voyage to @luvteaching🍾🛳️

Good morning from a sunny central Texas where it is 76F and feels like 76F.  There is a 3mph breeze that is not moving the flag.  The humidity is 94% with a dew point of 74F.  The predicted high is 94F.  It looks like the rain will begin about 10 am tomorrow, but between Texas weather and the unpredictability of hurricanes, that is probably a moving target.  There is not much on the agenda today.

I don't think we've been to a dive bar.  I would love another walk with my father.  Global forgiveness is a great goal, but I doubt it can be achieved.

I like the quote, but I think there are great treasures in life.

The shrimp salad looks good, but we'll be sharing a ribeye tonight to go with our red wine.  DH might like a pina colada on a BHB, but we'll pass on the wine.

We have visited A Coruna at least twice, and enjoyed the city.

In her 1990 Wimbledon win Martina Navratilova achieved a great record in tennis.

@grapau27  Graham, thank you for the historical definition of a dive bar.  Enjoyed your pictures of A Coruna.

@smitty34877  Terry, I'm glad you are feeling better.

@superoma  Eva, the fish fry is a great way to honor your parents.  I'm glad the weather cooperated.

@Mtn2Sea  Thank you for your pictures of Lugo.  That gives me another place to visit the next time we're in A Coruna.

@0106  Tina, thanks for the modern definition of a dive bar.

@ottahand7  Nancy, that is a sweet memory of your walk with your father and mother.  I'm glad Frank's memorial was good.  I'm also glad the fireworks dinner went well.  Thanks for the great pictures.  Loved the cake dedicated to Frank.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope the CT scan goes well tomorrow and that your tummy behaves.  I wish your DH could eat more and gain some weight.

We have been to A Coruna twice on BHBs.  In 2004, on Noordam III, we stayed in town, took the bus to the lighthouse and then walked around town.  In 2011, on the Prinsendam, we took the tour to Santiago de Compastela.

I'll begin with A Coruna.  The lighthouse which is still working and built on the foundation of the old Roman lighthouse.  The Tower of Hercules is the oldest extant lighthouse and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We went up in the lighthouse, and DH went to the very top.  This is A Coruna from the top.

These are a few of the pictures I took in Santiago de Compastela. The first is as we were walking from the bus to the square.

A monument to the pilgrims and one entrance to the church. plus the interior of the church.  We saw St. James tomb, but no pictures.  There was a long line to walk through the narrow passage and view the tomb.  Basically, we had to keep moving.

Happy Sunday everyone  & thank you to Rich and our F & B team. Nice collection of days & another great quote by Rowling.  👍 Yum on the meal & wine.  Love, love, Coruna - so much to see there and close by - lugo, Santiago de Compostela, etc.

The last father daughter walk I had with my DD Dad was when he walked me down the aisle.  I am very grateful he lived long enough to be there when his career daughter shocked everyone by getting married.

The rain stalled the plans for yesterday.  Hopefully, it happens today despite the high heat 🤞  I measured furniture instead & turfed some stuff I didn’t think was worthy / of interest to anyone to give away.  It’s a tad depressing but it is what it is.  And, things are going to have to be better than my usual standard 😉

Good morning Dailyites

Soggy morning but thankful for last night's rain. Thunder was long and loud and kept me awake til the wee hours. The rain prediction for today has been removed.

I, like @smitty34877 Terri, didn't have a warm, loving father. I do remember he would meet me in the garden with a salt shaker and we would pick a tomato and eat it right there. In his last year we talked about his life growing up in Oklahoma and there was no love in his family.

@luvteaching wishing you fair skies and soft winds.

@smitty34877 give a hug to Tana for me today. Tell her Oliver sends a puppy kiss.

@dfish Debbie, I read through all 3 recipes and I like #3. Have already printed it and will let you know how it turns out. I love shrimp.

@ottahand7 LOVE the cake and pictures!

@JazzyV Vanessa thank you for your care list. And I can't wait til you post the August scheduled cruisers! Then I will be on the Sept 1st sail away! I thought @richwmn was on our cruise but must have missed him on Jacqui's list..

Prayers to all our Daily friends who are having difficulty.

Today we are taking our friends to the Florence Vineyard for brunch. Our girlfriends granddaughter will be 6 on the 10th, the day they leave for Salt Lake City. So we celebrate today.

I spoke with my sister last night. She and her girlfriend head off today to visit the Getty Museum (I love that museum) then on to Santa Barbara for 2 days of golf. I'm so thankful she has great friends to help her through this time. Thank you for prayers for Bonnie.

Have a wonderful week. Stay safe! Blessings to you!

Best wishes to you as you prepare for your new home.  We all collect much more than we need — I guess a result of being fortunate.  When my DH and I left our home 6 years ago there was a lot to sort through and decide what to do with assorted stuff.  Now I try to not start collecting again!

Prayers for your health issues and for a quick pain free resolution.  Katherine

@kazu Jacqui we retired to Montana after working at Boeing for 20 years. I was 43, but we decided to retire when Allen turned 55.

After 5 year's of running a bed and breakfast and taking care of 11 acres, we decided to move on. We moved everything to Coeur d'Alene. 2 moving trucks. A big house. (Thinking our son, DIL and grandkids would visit, but never did)

After 6 years we found a new development we fell in love with and started building. It was small. 1600 ft. I spent at least 2 months going through the must haves, and the rest went to our estate sale, then St. Vincent's. It was painful but I am one that won't keep stuff in boxes. If I didn't have a space for it, out it went.

When we decided to move to Texas, we sold everything except treasures and a few antiques. Even the car and jeep. Loaded what is called a U box, flew to Texas and started new.

I can't believe we did it! I still have my treasures and memories. It's refreshing to start anew and hoping you have the strength to do it too. Hugs my friend.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  We've been to a couple of dive bars, but one in Japan stands out the most in my memory.  We had to go down a very narrow set of stairs, make a 90 degree turn and go down again.  I'm claustrophobic.  Just writing about it gives me HUGE anxiety!  Once we were there it wasn't bad, but I had to sit by the door or I couldn't stay.  Oh, how I'd love to have another walk with my Dad.  Global forgiveness is a wonderful thought, but could it really happen?

It's a cloudy morning out there this morning, although there isn't any rain in the forecast.  We have an expected high of 25C (77) which will be nice, and we won't need any A/C today.  I feel for those in the path of Beryl, whether she continues as a hurricane or downgrades to a tropical storm.  @Haljo1935earlier this year you were talking about the ponds of water in your yard, now you're so dry - what extremes!

We didn't get together with DH's daughter yesterday, even though it was her birthday - they had to put one of their 3 kitties down.  He'd had heart issues and yesterday morning appeared to have a stroke.  She's such a huge animal lover that it was just devastating for her to have to say goodbye to one of her furry kids.

Today I have to start a grocery list for Summerfest, figuring out what I'll make for the table and also order the buns to pick up on Friday afternoon.  I know the bakery does special orders, but they don't cut the hot dog buns, so I'll sharpen up one of my knives and get the job done Friday evening.  DH found out that one of the local liquor stores is having a sale on cases of beer, so he'll head out on Wednesday when the sale starts to get a number cases for our guests.  I have to pick up wine to make a big vat of sangria, too.

@luvteachingBon Voyage; I hope you have a wonderful cruise and that your friend enjoys the cruise experience.

@ottahand7love the cake for your DD DH!

I'd like the drink of the day, will let others enjoy the wine, but am seriously looking at the menu suggestion for us.  I like the first recipe, so I think DH and I will be enjoying shrimp salad with peanut dressing at the table on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, in turmoil, and in wars not of their making.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry
