Thank you all for the birthday wishes.  Vanessa, you have a fantastic recording system to remember all of us.

Opened the door last night to my two sisters and one of my brothers.  I am the oldest of 5 and it was a wonderful surprise.  Two from Ohio and one from Hawaii/New York.

That certainly was a wonderful surprise! Happy Birthday Dixie and enjoy!

Port of day Vancouver, BC Canada

Vancouver is an important port when it comes to Alaska cruises.  Many start or end there. I can count visiting there about 5 times, all on Princess ships.

On our first cruise in 2002 to Alaska we ended up there and enjoyed a day of sightseeing before spending the night there and driving to Seattle the following day.  We walked around enjoying a lovely sunny warm day and were told by a waitress it wasn’t this nice every day.  I’m sure that can’t be right!  Here is the Star Princess docked at Canada Place.

We took public transportation to the hotel DS had chosen for us.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

While walking around the city, we passed by a filming location for a Muppet Christmas movie and saw them applying rolls of “snow” being laid down on the flat surfaces.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

Beautiful views every way you looked.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

Walking through Stanley Park, we saw what looked like a Holland America ship across the way.  Everyone was out enjoying the park.

In 2006 we were in Vancouver overnight between two cruises.  Arriving early and going under the Lions Gate Bridge on the old Dawn Princess.

We stayed nearby at the Westin Bayshore.  Our view of the water and the high rises apartments and office buildings.

We stopped at the famous Teahouse in Stanley Park for a snack

I'll continue my next visits to Vancouver in a second post.

Good morning everyone.  We are having sprinkles from the sky, I never knew my grandma when she was young so can't judge if she was gorgeous, it is 57 degrees right now so I can't call if it will be hot enough today.  Love the Julia Child quote!  Have been to Vancouver but photos to share on my computer that is currently kaput.    Pass on all comestibles.   Thanks for the daily and researching drinks and recipes each day!

Thanks for the cares and celebrations reports Vanessa.    Prayers for Debbie @dfish as you have the ablation today.  Special prayers for Terry and Tana and Annie and Chuck as you soldier through each day with positive attitudes.  🙏❤️ Prayers for Jacqui, Terri and those in our group who are ailing or grieving.  Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own.  Great job on the tile work @Nickelpenny and @GTVCRUISER

We have rain for most of the day. I will clean, dust and mop the cabin since when the weather is fair I am always outside.

My DB is home but he is an invalid.  His knee is still swollen but his surgeon appointment is next month.  His son had to drive him to the ER to get catheterized.  He has an appointment with a urologist now too.  So sad, he was pretty active prior to his knee surgery climbing off and on his Ford tractor.

In 2009 we took B2B Alaska cruises which started out in Vancouver.  Upon arrival at the airport we tried the SkyTrain to downtown for the first time.

Leaving on Sapphire Princess the following day.

In 2010 we did more coastal cruises, staying in Vancouver at a hotel for about 3 days in between them.  We got to do a lot of walking to new places, and old.  Here we are crossing a bridge to Granville Island.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

Besides restaurants there are plenty of veggie stands and flower markets.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

Nice views of the city from there.

The next day we took in the scenery on our way to Chinatown.

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

Then got to see some lovely gardens at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhG

On our final day we visited this Inukshuk display

Good morning. It is foggy, rainy and very humid. The weather person said it was not oppressive humidity. Well, I guess there is that to be thankful for. I have been to Vancouver and really enjoyed that beautiful city. The first time we stayed at the Pan Pacific hotel and it looked as if the ship was going to become one with the hotel it was so close.DD DH and I enjoyed walking along the waterfront and visiting Stanley park as well as some great restaurants.

My mom was a gorgeous grandma and turned heads all her life. A few weeks ago I was at our vets office and he told me what a crush he had on mom. She has been gone almost16 years!
I will pass on zucchini bread and don’t care for sprinkles. The other two days are fine. It is hard to believe that 1962 was the first year for trans Atlantic TV transmissions.
@dfish, Debbie, I hope all goes well today and that you have excellent pain relief.

Enjoy the day everyone.

Thanks for our Tuesday Daily, rich and thanks to the F & B team

We are certainly celebrating Hot enough for ya today here and have been for a number of days.  You wouldn’t know it if you saw me.  I was thoroughly chilled when I got home from the hospital & had my winter pj’s and housecoat on.  Now, it’s sweats - mostly to avoid aggravating the sutures.  No A/C but the house stays pretty cool most of the time (which is where I have been living)

My big excitement today is to try to walk up my stairs as long as there is no significant pain where my sutures are.  Exciting, eh?

Debbie @dfish best wishes and prayers for your procedure today 🙏

Welcome home @Lady Hudson

Prayers for those on the Care list and those that need them 🙏   Cheers to all who are celebrating and cruising 🥂

Good morning everyone.  We woke up to the sound a a gentle rain, the lawn will be happy.  Thanks for the daily report, recipes and lists.  I was unpacking boxes of family photos and came across pictures of both of my gorgeous grandmas Regina and Sophie. I miss them.

Love the quote by Julia, her priorities were spot on.

I love zucchini bread and I’d give the drink a try.

We stayed in Vancouver prior to an Alaskan cruise on the Noordam in 2018.  We loved it and will return.

Prayers for those on our prayer list and for those who are in need.  Happy ______ to all of you who are celebrating happy events!  Happy birthday to @summer slope! 🎂

Happy Hot Enough for Ya Day!IMG_0701.jpeg.91fde8b2d800c27e2a9b8154d76f1f6a.jpeg

As we say in MD, it’s not the heat , it’s the humidity.

.IMG_0700.jpeg.56b1100a166039d96abd22f1cf792e75.jpeg

It’s zucchini season, time for me to start leaving them on my neighbor’s porch.  I want to try this new recipe for Chocolate Zucchini Bread but it’s too hot to turn on the oven.  Hoping @dfish has a successful ablation and enjoys her breakfast.  In the meantime, what’s your favorite zucchini bread recipe.

Thinking of everyone struggling.  Excited for everyone with something to celebrate.

Happy Tuesday. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports.

Warmish, highs in the upper 80s today. Yesterday we celebrated Fancy's gotcha day. She is such a sweetheart. Mischievous but well behaved. She brings such joy to my heart.

Grading assignments as usual. Oh, and 78 days until that much needed cruise.

We disembarked in Vancouver last June when we were on our Alaska cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam.

Overcast today which is nice for me, I’m a cloud worshiper.

Blessings Debbie for a successful procedure. And Roy for your appointments.

🎂 Happy Birthday Dixie!  What a fabulous surprise!

@kazu slow and careful Jacqui….  @JazzyV hoping this new wrinkle resolves soon. Belated best wishes to BFF!  You two are a great team.

Nancy, prayers for your DB. I’m sure it troubles you. I hope your IT people can salvage your computer or at least your hard drive.

Denise, I hope you can get your office space set up and be comfortable. Moving on….

Vancouver was our first cruise departure port, very fond memories!  The idea of a cruise sprung to me in a miserable moment when we were renovating our house to sell before we moved to the mountain cabin full time. I was stripping wallpaper with the gooey messy falling in my face when the thought came through loud and clear, “A cruise would be nice!!” It took a very long time to sell that house but on the way home from the late August closing DH asked me, as always, “Anything else you want to do in town?” (We lived 90 minutes away.) Yes! Here’s an address…. no navigators then, just a street map. He pulled into the parking lot and read the sign over the store front, CRUISE WAREHOUSE!  The rest is history 😁. We bought (too expensive) tickets for an inside guarantee room on Carnival Spirit for an Alaska cruise going out in 3 weeks.  We drove our truck and 5th wheel trailer to Washington, left it on DH’s nephew’s land, drove to Vancouver, parked our truck in the old lot next to pier, wheeled our borrowed collapsible duffle bags (they fit in the trailer) into the terminal, worked our way through line after line, had to find a porter with the manifest list for our cabin number, we ate our sandwiches while waiting, it all took 2 and a half hours!  But we loved the cruise experience!  DH had had his doubts- didn’t want to pay for a vacation that required shoes and had dress codes (we took our wedding clothes for formal night)- but he fell in love with the string quartet, and his brand new first digital camera!  Amazing Alaska scenery. Eagles, Glaciers. Waterfalls. Midnight buffets. All so exciting!  Vancouver began it all for us!  Ahhh.

Blessings to all in need of healing, comfort or hope!

🥂 Cheers to those celebrating! You remind us Life is Good🌈

Smooth travels to all away!

Thanks to all for being here, hoping you enjoy something special today!

Good morning from a very humid central Texas.  I really did not need to look at the weather app to know it is very humid since the outside of the window is covered with condensation.  The weather app agrees we have 100% humidity with a dew point of 74F, which is also the current temperature.  It will remain cloudy all day with a predicted high of 83F which is cool for this time of year, but I'm not complaining.  The hourly forecast does not show any rain, but who knows.  I can now see out the window, and the driveway is very wet.  I don't know if it's from the heavy dew or if we got more rain.

With our cooler than normal temperature today, we'll not be celebrating hot enough for you.  Someone else can have my sprinkles.  My grandmothers were gorgeous, especially inside where it matters the most.

Julia Child was correct about life being the proper binge.

We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  The wine sounds good and the price is even better.  We may have had it and enjoyed it.

We have been to Vancouver a few times including staying one night after our first Alaskan cruise in 1993.  I have very few pictures from September 23, 2002, when we boarded the Volendam for the 64 day APEC cruise.  We had a port day there in 2001, but that was the cruise my camera died on a turnaround day in Ft. Lauderdale.

Great day for our Canadian Dailyites when the Union Act passed in 1840.  The first transatlantic television transmission was a big deal in 1962.  The day the Whaling Commission banned commercial whaling in 1982 was an important day in the effort to save the whales.

@Lady Hudson  Welcome home, Katherine.

@cunnorl  Charlene, I hope you will be able to visit the ports in Greenland.

@rafinmd  Roy, I'm glad the computer is now working well.  I hope your day is better than yesterday.

@grapau27  Graham, thank you for the information on Sprinkle Day.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I'm glad your arm is feeling better.

@ottahand7  Nancy, I hope things will improve for your DB, and that something can be done about his knee, and that there is not a major problem with his kidneys.

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope you continue to improve each day.

@marshhawk  Annie, good luck finding Momma Munchkin and at the vet.

Here are a few pictures from the Volendam on September 23, 2002.  Our older DD was with us for the first 11 days of the cruise, and after we checked in for the cruise, we walked into town for a bit.  Either I didn't take any pictures, or they were lost.

I remember a summer, decades ago, when a biology professor told everyone to bake and freeze lots of zucchini bread because it was going to be a long winter. She was right about the winter. No on the drink: too complicated and too blue.

I had an uncle by marriage who was aged in a bourbon barrel, I think. For wine, Fulkerson's offers a bourbon-barrel aged Syrah, but for a Cabernet Sauvignon we'll head further north and east to Lake George, where the Adirondack Winery has a bourbon-barrel aged one, $34.99. "Aged for 9 months in American Oak Bourbon Barrels that previously hosted American Oak Whiskey's Double Barrel Aged Bourbon, this Cabernet Sauvignon leads with the intense aromas of sweet vanilla, brown sugar, and spice tones imparted from the bourbon barrels. A medium-bodied wine, its earthy notes are marked with flavors of dark berry and light acidity ending with a subtly sweet, lingering soft finish."

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Lately it's been hot enough for us, not a real fan of sprinkles, and wish all Gorgeous Grandmas a wonderful day.

Although it's been pretty hot (for us) lately, this morning things have cooled down considerably.  We've got a temperature of 16(60), and a predicted high of 28(82), which will be nice, especially with a good breeze blowing.  Yesterday afternoon DH put the sprinklers on both front and back lawns for a number of hours and none of it ran off, so the ground is quite dry.

Awful news - just heard on the radio that the town of Jasper, Alberta and Jasper National Park is currently being evacuated due to an encroaching fire.  Here's the info:
May be an image of map and text

@summer slope wishing you a very Happy Birthday; enjoy the celebrations with your siblings - what a wonderful surprise!

@dfish sending good wishes for your ablation today.

We're heading out to have breakfast with friends we haven't seen in a long time, and after that will stop to pick up food for Sochi.  I'm hoping the appliance gremlins haven't found our house, as yesterday I noticed that a bag of coleslaw mix in the fridge had ice in it . . .   I turned up the temperature dial and hope that fixes it.  If not, well the fridge is well over 20 years old, so at this point it really doesn't owe us anything.

I've written down the drink recipe for testing purposes, would like the wine, and prefer my chocolate zucchini cake to a regular zucchini loaf.  We usually get a couple of zucchini from DH's sister that I shred and put into freezer bags for use later - they won't be ready in this part of the world until at least mid to late August.  Because it isn't going to be super hot today, I think I'll put a couple of pork chops and baby potatoes together and make a sheet pan dinner in the air fryer on the deck that we can enjoy out there tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, in turmoil, in wars not of their making, and in the paths of destructive fires.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️
