Rare ontheweb Posted July 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2019 I discovered cruisecritic between our second and third cruises. (I don't remember how I discovered it.) I joined the roll call for our third cruise, and there was only one other poster. She invited us to dinner and to see her cabin which was an owner's suite. LoriPhil Posted July 9, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2019 A friend mentioned it when we were investigating our first cruise - what a difference that made! We’ve recommended it to every pal we’ve spoken to who mentioned cruising thereafter.
navybankerteacher Posted July 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2019 It was on my sixth or seventh cruise that someone mentioned it at dinner.

slidergirl Posted July 9, 2019 #7 Share Posted July 9, 2019 Before I took my first cruise. I am a "due diligence" kind of person. I was researching and researching and came across CC. Back then, a Travel Agent could "advertise" in a way on CC. One was nice to answer a bunch of my questions and I ended up using him to book. Heidi13 Posted July 9, 2019 #8 Share Posted July 9, 2019 Since we started in mid-1970's, it was > 20 years before CC even launched. Was aware of it in early 2000's, but didn't join until 2014, so about 40 years of cruising before joining.🙂
pghsteelerfan Posted July 9, 2019 #9 Share Posted July 9, 2019 (edited) I stumbled upon CC by accident in 2010 while looking up the port of Grand Turk before our 4th cruise (the cruise prior was in 2006). I knew Grand Turk was one of our ports but didn't know much about it. CC has been a world of information and we've been able to get so much more out of our cruises. Love the Ports of Call section for ideas of things to see and do, other than tours through the cruise lines. TNcruising02 Posted July 9, 2019 #10 Share Posted July 9, 2019 I had taken one cruise, which was on Disney in 2013, before I discovered this board. My second cruise was on the Carnival Magic out of Galveston in 2014 and I posted a question about my departure time.
Cruiser_1977 Posted July 9, 2019 #11 Share Posted July 9, 2019 Technically my third cruise as an adult. However, it had been over a decade since my last cruise....

wwcruisers Posted July 9, 2019 #13 Share Posted July 9, 2019 (edited) We were about five years into cruising, when we discovered CC -- thanks to cruising buddies, who we met on Jewel of the Seas. 😎 And, truth be told -- I 'lurked' here for a long time, before signing-on!😳 (BTW -- good thread! I don't think that I've ever seen this particular question asked on the CC boards, before.) Edited July 9, 2019 by wwcruisers
Rare Essiesmom Posted July 9, 2019 #14 Share Posted July 9, 2019 8 cruises, but the first 4 were back in the early 70s before internet or CC. I had belonged to another cruise forum, much smaller, and I had heard CC mentioned, even looked in on it a couple of times, but it was at least a year before I joined and started using it. marco Posted July 9, 2019 #19 Share Posted July 9, 2019 (edited) Between cruises and TA's since the 60's when I was a kid and traveling with my parents, long before the internet let alone CC, probably somewhere over 40. paul929207 Posted July 9, 2019 #20 Share Posted July 9, 2019 We took 4 before CruiseCritic existed. We learned about it on our fifth cruise, but that was CC's first, so count it as you like.
crystalspin Posted July 9, 2019 #21 Share Posted July 9, 2019 3, but found it and joined roll call, on the first cruise I booked myself on internet. Before that the websites were designed to MAKE you go to a brick-and-mortar TA!
jocap Posted July 9, 2019 #22 Share Posted July 9, 2019 Three, and were preparing for our fourth. Oh, if only we'd found it before our first- my OH wasted many snorkelling hours because we thought we had to eat all our meals in the MDR, and the buffet was for "Freedom" diners... he was itching to go ashore on a morning, and hated having to rush through changing for the early sitting in the evening. Once we'd discovered the buffet, it was a quick bowl of porridge and he was off!
