They're passengers on the Zaandam. Both have had fever for days. Bill now has pneumonia. He can't swallow, so he hasn't been able to eat for several days. He can't take oral medicine. His daughters hope he can hold on long enough to get treatment. I think Bill and Gloria would be happy to be "dumped" in Florida because that is where they live! Please take a few moments to think about them, confined to their cabin, with no fresh air, and holding on to hope. Thank you for sharing these details, makes it more real to us all. That sounds very serious, and doubly sad because they will likely be separated when they get off the ship as one or both of them get hospitalized. Prayers that they recover through whatever interventions are available. Blessings to all involved! m--

Everything else is just discussion while we anticipate an ending to all this soon. Relax. All the side conversations are just a way of staying tuned in while we wait. 3

He finally returned the ship to Europe, where various countries, including the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands and France, accepted some refugees. Many were later caught in Nazi roundups of Jews in occupied countries, and some historians have estimated that approximately a quarter of them were killed in death camps during World War II." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_St._Louis That fiasco was one of the most sickening and disgusting PREVENTABLE tragedies during WWII. However, I don't think it's an apt comparison. The USA was not on lockdown due to a deadly virus then and, since I visited a Holocaust museum in Florida in February during which the tour guide specifically talked about the St Louis episode, I don't recall him saying that the people aboard were in danger of killing anyone with a pandemic. (sorry, this is a bit off topic)
DFD1 Posted April 2, 2020 #2307 Share Posted April 2, 2020 The long nightmare for the two ships is almost over....and the beginning of the end of the nightmare for the passengers. We wish them all well. This has been awful in so many ways.

bluesea321 Posted April 2, 2020 #2318 Share Posted April 2, 2020 (edited) "Two county officials confirmed the deal was signed by the county at about 3 p.m., and ship officials expected to sign momentarily. But not everyone would be allowed off, and the disembarkment of passengers could go through Friday. “They’ll only get off the ship when the plane is ready” to take them to Europe or other locations, one official said. https://www.sun-sentinel.com/coronavirus/fl-ne-holland-america-deal-reached-20200402-v7bx2ecx4nbkpdujt4b57vbflm-story.html Edited April 2, 2020 by bluesea321
