rich_cathybrock Posted September 3, 2020 #401 Share Posted September 3, 2020 Most definitely, and I am happy to sail under that constraint. It's the only one which reasonably negates all the other potential "solutions" including reductions to attendance at shows, in bars, casinos, restaurants, etc. that would severely diminish the experience. Goes without saying the mask stays home once there is a vaccine! I prefer to forego the weird tan lines!

We're in the UK and I'm guessing the vaccine we will get (eventually) could be different in that it's produced by another organisation that's not in the USA also tested differently etc etc I'm seriously starting to think it could be many years before we get to visit the USA that we love! docksider21 Posted September 3, 2020 #405 Share Posted September 3, 2020 Even a vaccine that did not provide complete immunity, but reduced one's likelihood of infection, and/or reduced the severity and duration of the disease would be a great help. 1

Silver Syd Posted September 4, 2020 #407 Share Posted September 4, 2020 Of course we'd get the vaccine but only after it's proven to be safe and I doubt that Royal Caribbean would want otherwise. We plan on getting the Flu Shot as soon as it's available. And hopefully the safe, tested covid shot will be available before cruise time.
Esmerelda Posted September 4, 2020 #408 Share Posted September 4, 2020 That’s a no for me and my husband. We are both immune compromised. I tried a flu shot about 10 years ago. I ended up in the ER very ill (actually admitted). That was the only time in my life I have ever had a flu shot (required for my job). I will never do that again. My husband has never had a flu shot and he is 60. Vaccines are simply not for everyone. (I work in healthcare). If this is a requirement to cruise, we will be done.

Flu shots are available here at Kroger, Walgreens, and CVS, but on the news they were saying to wait until mid September to get the shot in order for it to last the entire flu season. I'm getting mine next week. Edited September 4, 2020 by mek

And, in reality, that is the purpose of the Covid vaccine. If you knew that by getting the vaccine that the most you would get is cold like symptoms, that would more than be worth it, which is what they are expecting from the vaccine. Flu vaccine does the same. I've had the full blown flu before starting to get the vaccine and last Jan for the first time since I've been getting the shot (23 years) I actually caught the flu, but a very, very mild version. It's the same idea. We're getting our flu shots in a couple of weeks. Worst reaction I've ever had was a very sore arm with a swollen area around the shot. Sorry I was getting ready for work and thought I heard not available til Oct 1st. We usually get it end of october every year.
NJ&Ozzie Posted September 6, 2020 #417 Share Posted September 6, 2020 Curious about this - why are these vaccine manufacturers getting a "liability exemption" for their vaccines? Article says the exemption would last four years. Don't get this. NJ https://www.usnews.com/news/top-news/articles/2020-07-30/astrazeneca-to-be-exempt-from-coronavirus-vaccine-liability-claims-in-most-countries The article pretty well explains why: "This is a unique situation where we as a company simply cannot take the risk if in ... four years the vaccine is showing side effects," Ruud Dobber, a member of Astra's senior executive team, told Reuters. "In the contracts we have in place, we are asking for indemnification. For most countries it is acceptable to take that risk on their shoulders because it is in their national interest," he said, adding that Astra and regulators were making safety and tolerability a top priority. Wow. NJ No, it means what it says "if". Four years was just a number he threw out there. You know, as an example. He could have just as easily said 1 year or 50 years. Sunshine3601 Posted September 6, 2020 #422 Share Posted September 6, 2020 No way for anyone to know to know side effects of a vaccine 1 or 4 years from now. Just like people that have had covid they may or may not have long term side effects.

smalltimecruiser100 Posted September 8, 2020 #424 Share Posted September 8, 2020 Yes....If I don't get the vaccine, my chances of coming down with the virus, I feel is higher than getting the vaccine. Yes it's a chance but I'd rather take the chance with getting it. Cruising has nothing to do with it.
