She is the first large ship back in service in Europe as the Mein Schiff 2    https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/23286-1-200-passengers-are-back-on-a-cruise-ship.html?fbclid=IwAR1XUVL4CCvtgUwx2E2HktbIT29FJTXCw9ygNWCCT-7Y_TjmCnG3ddXvOAI

She was always one of my favorite ships!  We had some great cruises onboard Mercury.  Happy to see she is still looking good!

My first Celebrity cruise was on the Merc.  It was a 14 night itinerary from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale through the Panama Canal to celebrity my 40th birthday.  It was the BEST!!  We had a midship inside cabin and they upgraded us to an oceanview cabin.  We were spoiled then!!

We sailed on her again several years later and booked one of those family oceanview cabins at the aft of the ship.  Again, we felt so spoiled ... that was such a fabulous room.  I think they ultimately turned them all into veranda cabins, but honestly, we felt as though that back deck was our own private veranda as we were the only ones ever out there.

Good times!!  Great memories of the Merc.

That is not correct!

Mein Schiff 2, now doing the first cruises, is NOT Horizon. It´s a new ship. That´s why she looks so good 🙂

TUI Cruises Germany ( a joint venture of TUI and Royal Caribbean) started with the two fromer Celebrity ships

Galaxy and Mercury and called them Mein Schiff 1 and 2. After becoming pretty successful, the cruise line built and ordered numerous new ships, replacing or renaming the old ships.

Galaxy / Mein Schiff 1 left TUI and became Marella Explorer. Horizon / Mein Schiff 2 was renamed to Mein Schiff ❤️ Herz (Heart) 2019.

The Mein Schiff 2 mentioned in the article is a new ship.

Mercury or not, glad to see they are sailing..

That´s for sure 👍
Although somewhat limited (reduced capacity and only Germans) it´s a small light at the end of a tunnel.

Correction- it is a small light at the beginning of a tunnel.😀

LOL - I guess that depends on which side of the tunnel you are on.
It´s kind of like a glass half full or half empty question...

Miaminice is correct, Mein Schiff 2 is NOT Mercury. It is a new build delivered in 2019. Mein Schiff Herz is the old Mercury (but in all fairness she used to be called Mein Schiff 2).

That back deck was one of our favorite places as well!  I never understood why we were the only ones out there!

Mercury was also our fav...like a large yacht !

Food, entertainment, service,  ambiance and fellow pax..a home run!

I do not believe it held  as many pax as the new Mein Schif 2...

wierd how they mixed the  names around.

I didn't think it looked like Mercury either and thought am I that far gone?  Thank you for all who said it was not Mercury.  We first sailed on her through the Panama in 1998,  and then in 2007 when Celebrity made their first venture to Australia.  To this day that sailing remains as one of our best cruises.

While you are correct that Mein Schiff 2 is a new ship (I was unaware of that), Mercury was indeed Mein Schiff 2 until last year.  I never mentioned Horizon and she was never part of TUI.  Horizon was (is) part of Pullmantur.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Horizon#:~:text=MV Horizon (formerly Pacific Dream,Celebrity Cruises as MV Horizon.

Sorry for the confusion....

The Century, slightly larger Galaxy and Mercury were wonderful classic ships.

Never forget on an Alaskan cruise in 2000, we were on the Galaxy and the Merc was doing the same itinerary. The Merc was slightly ahead of us sailing out of Hubbard Bay and everyone on the Galaxy noticed the Merc was making a hard turn to starboard, almost looked like she was listing. When we arrived at Ketchican the next day we met some passengers from the Mercury and they told us the Captain did not see some fishing boats and nets until the last minute, a lot of glasses and dishes plus a goodly amount of bottled liquor was lost due to the hard turn.

I suspected it was a new ship as the Mercury had a capacity of about 1900 passengers and not 2900.  Those class ships were awesome in terms of the food, service and decor.  I loved all the wood in the common areas.  Thanks for bringing back the pleasant memories.

I loved those ships C class ships as well.🙂.  They are what got me hooked on cruising back in 2003.

For us,

Galaxy TA 2005, we had 9 sea days, due to Hurricane Wilma we missed Key West, but I dint mind the relaxing atmosphere, as I was removing from a knee replacement.

Mercury 2008 Australia & New Zealand.

Century 2012 Hawaii

We were also booked on Century for her last cruise Dubai to Rome, in 2015, but unfortunately Celebrity redeployed her early to Asia, instead of going to Pullmantur.

Oh my... this time you are correct! 🙂While I was trying to give a little info about the background of Galaxy and Mercury (meanwhile Mein Schiff 1 and 2 and now Marella Explorer and Mein Schiff Herz) I obviously also had Horizon on my mind and mistakenly typed that into the info.

Anyway, the passengers of the new Mein Schiff 2 doing the cruise to nowhere were in for a surprise when the ship was escorted by Mein Schiff 4 and Mein Schiff 6 for a while. It had not been announced before.

Obviously all went well during the voyage. The images and videos I can see show that people did abide by the rules and everything appeared well organised. Passengers interviewed did not mind the restrictions etc.

Great to see you again Lois!  I haven't seen a post of yours in ages.  Hope you're keeping safe and well in Florida.

Hi TeaBag, doing as well as can be expected.....staying home a lot. I haven't sailed with Celebrity in quite a few

years now so no longer post on this board.

Good to see you as well.🙂
