Good morning everyone. Today is Sam’s birthday and we finally decided we would all go to one of our daughter’s homes and she would put out 3 tables, one for each family and we would celebrate with masks on. It’s supposed to be close to 60, but it’s been raining so not sure how we will pull this off.

Our friend in hospice died yesterday. The funeral is today and will be zoomed from their synagogue and the cemetery will also be zoomed. We spoke to his wife NYE because we’ve spent at least 56 New Years Eves with them. It’s a sad day for our whole family as we watch the funeral later and then celebrate Sam.

Stay safe everyone,

Carol

Happy Birthday to Sam and again condolences on the death of your dear friend.  Enjoy the birthday party.

Good morning all!

We're having a little warming trend, up to a balmy 40F today with rain coming in -- then more snow.

@summer slope Bon Voyage!!

@richwmnand @Sharon in AZsafe travels home today.

@dfishDebbie congrats on the Lottery win!!

@mamaofamicondolences on the loss of your good friend.  Happy birthday to Sam.

Well I got about half of the Christmas linens, dishes and decorations put away yesterday, I still have the other half plus the two trees (one big, one small) and the Christmas Village to do.

Since we'll be seeing family later today to celebrate our son and DDIL's move up here, most likely I won't be getting a lot more done 😉

Stay safe and healthy everyone!

Good Morning from another warm day at the beach.

Supposed to rain tonite with a cool day tomorrow, then in the 70`s rest of week. 70s is where we should be at this time of year.

My family loves meatball subs. They are very messy. I eat a small one with a knife and fork!

Have not been to todays port.

@Seasick Sailor Thank you for the pictures of the aft pool. May have to book that ship!

@mamaofami A very Happy Birthday to Sam.  So sorry to hear of the death of your longtime friend.

@summer slope Hope you have a wonderful cruise

@richwmnand @Sharon in AZ Safe travels home. Thanks for posting during your trip. It was fun to follow along

A quiet day here today.

Stay safe and enjoy today

A sad day today as I started our online worship service.  My pastor has tested positive and was not present.  Fortunately, she is doing well and we have a couple of clergy members and one was able to take over on a moment's notice.

The secret with a meatball sandwich is to eat them with a knife and fork, I totally agree with @cunnorlin the eating method.  Since bread is a no no for me, but that part of bread that soaks up all the tomato sauce, is so good.  So, I eat with a knife and fork, scoop out the gooey bread, and toss the rest.  I do wear my food.  Clothing is always splattered with something.  DH asked me why I don't wear a bib.  hmmm. Cooking yesterday?  Bacon grease all over the shirt.  First time I work the shirt.

A nice cold morning here in SW Michigan. 21 degrees F and three inches of snow overnight.   Many birds at the feeders this morning including my "topless" Blue Jay.  Probably due to a predator attack and escaping with his life his crest is missing.    He can still gorge himself like the rest of his gang.  We had a lone Snow Goose fly over in a flight of Canada Geese.     Thinking of everyone on cruises and warm climates -  counting down to our NS cruise next month.   Meatballs sound good for a cold day!

Good afternoon to you all.  Just finished late Sunday lunch and relaxing a little.  Today is cooler with the mercury hitting a high of 8°C/46°F.  The morning was bright and sunny, but we now have a cold wind from the NE and some heavy rain showers with sleet.

It is day 2 of Dry January for me and so far no problems 😁  We had Chinese takeout last night and slow cooked beef today, but I managed without thinking about wine too often.  Only 29 more days..........🤪

I could have a long discussion about today's 'Days'.  I believe that it is not Three Kings, which is still January 6th and is still celebrated on that date in Spain, with a national public holiday and gifts distributed.  Most Catholic churches mark the 'Solemnity of the Epiphany' on the Sunday between January 2nd and 8th, but the 'Feast day of the Epiphany' is still on January 6th, though it is no longer a holy day of obligation.  In our locality the night of January 6th is traditionally the night that the women go out to celebrate the end of Christmas for a meal a few drinks and entertainment.  It is called, colloquially, 'Women's Little Christmas'.

Strength to those on the Care LIst.

Take care all, and wear your mask!

LOL at @ger_77’s husband working on his car in “warmer” weather (-15c/5f). 😂

I love the bird pics!  There are 6 Cardinals (male and female) in this Crepe Myrtle.  Can you find them all?

LOL 😂 Yup, the other taste of the pill pockets worked for one pill and then it was reject time again.

I think he has found the pills inside chewing and it’s now “ok Marley, we can do this the easy way or the hard way”.  He’s opted for the hard way.  Stupid (no he’s smart) dog. 😡

Must be the pill sizes as he has used the pill pockets before with no issue.

It was easy giving pills all the years we had two dogs. I made four treats, one doctored and three plain. With both sitting together, the dog needing the pill was given a plain treat, which they checked out carefully. The second dog was given a plain treat. The second dog was given the third plain treat, which the first dog KNEW was unfair. The doctored treat was then offered to the second dog, but corrected and switched to the highly indignant first dog at the last second. Not once did either of them question what was in the fourth treat. (This does not work with cats.)

@grapau27Graham, I thought you said you were going to start your diet today. what happened  🤪? If you do I’ll miss your photos of Pauline and your meals. I put on a pound just looking at them.

Cheers to all celebrating today and comfort for those in need. The new year has started whether we are ready for it or not. Guess we’ll just have to roll with the punches - again.

Good morning, all! The gremlins are finally letting me react - perhaps they will let me post?
Google insists that Epiphany is January 6, but as we’re having our turkey dinner tonight, we may as well celebrate the three kings anyway!

It is still cold here, but not as severe. The forecast snow never materialized and now it is supposed to rain instead. It’s lucky it’s a Sunday, as I suspect the roads will ice over and be treacherous. I’ve been making microwaveable hot packs with some of my botanical printed fabric. They are wonderful bed warmers, and make this cold spell easier to take. DS and DBIL are now in their winter home in Palm Springs for the next three month. We join them the last two weeks of February. The closest I’ve been to Kaohsiung is passing through on the fast train traveling from Taipei to Kenting.
Happy Sunday, especially to our Dailyites just coming off, or going on, a BHB!

A sad day today indeed, Carol 😢 So sorry.  Hope you can still take joy celebrating Sam’s birthday today despite the very sad event.  Prayers for you all 🙏

Miniature marshmallows should do the trick.  My male Border Collie also quickly caught on to the pill pockets but he couldn't resist a miniature marshmallow or the pill hidden inside a piece of chicken.   Good luck.

Thanks - haven’t heard that one - I have never given the dogs marshmallows.  It was my understanding it as a big no no.  https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/can-dogs-eat-marshmallows/

Good morning! We are contemplating cancelling our trip to Cancun this week. DW’s identical twin sister was going with us but she is in hospital with A Fibrillation issues. That combined with the present travel woes and Cancun like so many places is having a Covid surge.

So sorry to hear about you DW’s twin sister.  I pray she will be helped and recover quickly 🙏

I am so sorry to hear this, Roy. 😔 From her emails she seems like a very kind person.  I pray she continues to not have major issues and recovers quickly 🙏

That sounds like a neat trick.  I may just try that.  Of course that means they both get 6 pill pockets 😱 But beats shoving them down Marley’s throat 👍 Miko loves them so he will be happy to play along 😉

I am late this morning..... I slept in after a restless night. Oh well, no reason to get up early as long as the Bandit is content. It was still very cold when we did get out..... -5F with a light wind. It was a quick trip.

I avoid meatball subs in company.... I am way too messy. Will eat them at home if no one is looking.

Have not been to the destination .... feeling deprived.

Off to the Shelter to do some work on moving some records about and looking for some info for our accountant. Not my job but I have better luck in finding things than other people. Probably my convoluted mind.

Happy Birthday to Sam!!! Sounds like your celebration is well organized.

@garlictown  Amber Cove is pretty nice ( i did do one of the best shore excursions i have ever done there)  But right now the Dominican Republic is pretty Covid safe.  I had to call a company this last year after I screwed up an order.  The gentleman i spoke with was in the Dominican Republic.  I asked him how covid was doing there, and if they had vaccines.  He told me that vaccines were mandatory if you wanted to work, and while they were working from home, they still had to be vaccinated.  Every one he knew had been vaccinated.  The upside of a Socialist country.

I did take a nap yesterday, from 12:30 to 4:30.  I could have just slept all day and night, but I wanted my dinner!  Tummy rules.  Stayed up till 11 and then slept until 7:45.  Maybe this is the year for sleep.

😉We returned from a Viking River Cruise ( 🎄the Elbe for Christmas Mkts) about a week before embarking on the Rotterdam. I'm so glad that countries are allowing 'fully vaccinated' people to visit with all the protocols in place.😊

Good morning, Dailyites, and many thanks to Rich, Roy, Jacqui and the F&B department!  I always start my day off here, it's definitely the "News of the Day".  😀  Happy Birthday to Sam, and condolences to you both, @mamaofami, on the loss of your friend of so many years. ..  Today we go dry, too,  @VMax1700, although Pat says we have to finish off the half bottle of wine that's in the fridge, so we will have to continue two days into February - we did have a bottle of prosecco yesterday.  I have also decided not to eat for a month, I need to lose some weight or else I will need a new wardrobe!  My final resolution is to organize my stamp collections better so they take up less space and don't overflow all over the spare room, which is also Pat's office and the guest room.  (Just in case any of you come for a visit!)

Just looking at those meatball subs has given me indigestion, so I think that is not the meal for me!

It is a little warmer here today, 4C at the moment and going up to 7.  Evidently we have lost a lot of hummingbirds in BC with this cold.  People are finding small bodies.  But I think it is probably more on the mainland, although I haven't seen many on the feeder for the last couple of days.  I tell myself they have flown  down to California!

In case anyone is interested, the SWFL eagles have hatched two chicks in the last few days, here -
