retired dude Posted June 17, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2022 just booked a balcony-connecting cabin on the radiance and was hoping that i could get some feedback on how much more normal noise i can expect to come through that doorway from my neighbors next door...It was the only balcony available so i took it. Hope to get quiet and respectful neighbors but i just did not know how much more i can hear with this type of cabin as compared to the normal cabin with solid walls..thanks so much for any helpful feedback, it is much appreciated. barbeyg Posted June 17, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2022 We had a connecting room on Radiance, and after the first day, when one of the 'residents' was talking loudly on his phone about his strategy for the casino, we never heard them again. I guess your mileage may vary, depending on your neighbor.
cruisegirl1 Posted June 17, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2022 We've never had any major issues. Some connecting cabins have a chair rather than a couch/loveseat. I hear much more from other balconies than I ever hear from the connecting cabin. Most hotel rooms connect to a room next door as well. Is this the PC cruise, if so, I'm sure others will open up later and you can switch. When did you book it this morning?

At least not in the hotels I stay in.

OK, Many, not most. Ritz Carlton, had a standard hotel room that connected to our suite. I know for sure because we booked it that way on purpose. Many of the standard roadside hotels like Hampton Inn, Fairfield etc. are set up with connecting rooms. Works great. We also find the set up it at beach hotels and many better Vegas properties. obviously, YMMV M Edited June 17, 2022 by cruisegirl1

cruisegirl1 Posted June 17, 2022 #8 Share Posted June 17, 2022 I'll come back to say, if there is a non connecting cabin, in a good location I'll take that. I don't seek out connecting cabins. Now it seems that RCCL often prices the connecting cabins HIGHER than non connecting cabins. They are a huge plus for families. M

Many more connecting promenade, so connecting promenade can be $100 or more cheaper. Non connecting promenade go for a premium.

I would say don't worry about it, but it is 16 days.......pretty sure you will be able to move as long as you are willing to pay the going rate. Best case thing would be for eventually more cabins open up in the category you booked and then you can make a clean switch without any rate changes. What's good is you have a cabin for 3 or 4 passengers and we know there are cabins like that available now for that sailing. So once they show that category available again, just call and make the free switch.
Rare island lady Posted June 17, 2022 #12 Share Posted June 17, 2022 Would depend on how lucky you are with the neighbors occupying that connected cabin. Me...not so lucky. Booked a last minute cruise some years ago, as choices were limited. Those cabins are usually the last to be booked, due to possible noise and loss of couch in favor of chair to make room for the door. Family with two very active young boys were in connecting cabin. The boys were very noisy, and kept trying to open the connecting door. After too many attempts...I finally yelled through the door "We are not letting you in...cut it out!!" That stopped that...but not the noise for the whole week. Once was enough...never again.

Having a balcony is a gamble within itself. That's why, like you we book early to get the pick of the litter. Same with hotel stays. When I make our hotel reservations I always ask for a non connecting room. Never had a connecting room with any Hilton properties including Hampton Inn. I always use HH points so I know the rooms we get are standard rooms. Could you imagine having a connecting cabin on our March cruise? 😮 Edited June 17, 2022 by davekathy

foxgoodrich Posted June 17, 2022 #16 Share Posted June 17, 2022 We've had connecting cabins a few times over the years, mostly when we booked late or at the last minute. We deliberately booked connecting cabins once when we wanted them to accommodate other family members next door. But other than that we deliberately avoid connecting cabins! Yes there is noise. Once, someone in the cabin next door was terribly sea sick and we heard those sounds quite a lot. We also heard the toilet flush. Another time someone next door snored loudly. You can hear coughing and sneezing and sometimes the TV if they have the volume turned up. Any conversation near the connecting door will be audible. But to me, the noise was a secondary annoyance...what I disliked more was not having a real sofa. The door changes your cabin furnishings. You will either have a small sofa (mini-loveseat) or just a chair instead of a sofa. Your cruise is far enough ahead that you should be able to change rooms and get out of the connecting cabin. Keep watching and change whenever non connecting cabins are available. Good luck!

HicksRA Posted June 17, 2022 #18 Share Posted June 17, 2022 I booked that PC cruise as well and nothing was available but GTY balconies and no suites. Fingers crossed I don’t get an adjoining room. The last one I was in, the girl would run the hair dryer for long periods of time and it sounded like it was in the room with us. I could hear them talking all the time as well. Plus, it only had two chairs instead of a sofa. I’ve been checking daily to see if/when something else opens up.

loman Posted June 17, 2022 #20 Share Posted June 17, 2022 I had a connecting cabin once , rookie mistake but i didnt hear anything . Guess our neighbors were as respectful as we were . I wouldnt do it again though . The other thing to watch out for is those extended balconies that have the lifeboats underneath them , thinks its deck 7 ? They weren`t that good . Radiance class isnt for me .
shipgeeks Posted June 17, 2022 #21 Share Posted June 17, 2022 We have had both. One time in a connecting room we occasionally heard our neighbors. One time in a non-connecting room we occasionally heard our neighbors. No biggie. We might hang some garments on the door, and/or stand a suitcase against it, if we want extra muffling.
