Did you call to get your luggage pickup scheduled?   The paperwork was rather vague allowing us to think they will contact us.  Ours are all ready.   Many thanks!  Nancy

I called and they scheduled it for Dec. 9. They said they could deliver it to my cabin on the cruise before the Grand for no extra cost so I said why not. It will be a relief to have it early just in case.

Good morning from Hilton Head Island.  It is about 63 degrees and will warm up to 77 today and will be sunny.

We’re up early as today will be a busy day.

I have a hairdresser appointment at noon and then am scheduled to get my COVID booster at 2 pm.  DH was unable to get an appointment until tomorrow but he will come with me and plead his case and hope they will give him his booster as well.

We also have to wait for some UPS and FedEx envelopes today and tomorrow at our house.  So we will stay there until they come.  Hopefully will not have to wait too long.

We are very happy that work will start on our home in the next week or so.  We expect to get the insurance money either today or tomorrow and meet with the contractor midweek next week to firm things up.  Yippee!  Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers.

Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Report and for the Cares and Celebration lists.

Prayers for all those who need them and Cheers to those who are celebrating and cruising.

Need to get ready to go over to Bluffton so I will bid adieu for now.

God Bless and stay safe.

Terri

Terri, I was happy to read your adjuster got in touch with you and the contractor, finally.  I can understand him being distracted with his Father's condition but someone should have contacted his clients during that time.  Big mistake not taking care  of people in their time of need.  I hope you are feeling a load lifted off your shoulders, and can enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday and your cruise in December.  Before we know it January will be here.  Have a good day!

@ottahand7 Bed sores are the worst and with all the pain your DB is having I'm sure they will get worse as he spends so much time lying down. A few years ago I was peripherally involved with a study that was using Manuka honey and some people got good results. I don't know if there was any conclusion as I retired before the study ended but maybe it's something you could talk to his medical team about. Hopefully he will improve at the rehab facility.

Thanks so much!    We are changing cabins so we will have it delivered to our GSA cabin.  We are in a obstructed view cabin so we probably wouldn't be able to move.   DF got a timely casino offer for the NYE portion.   See you onboard!  Nancy

Hola from Barcelona!  The CC gremlins (or maybe it's the hotel internet), but I can't like anything here.  I'm surprised I can still post!

Yesterday we wandered around and found DH a new pair of shoes - that of course, had to be followed by a late lunch and an Aperol Spritz by the waterfront.  We watched some industrious people scrubbing down one of the yachts, obviously preparing it for departure.

Last evening we met a couple from our roll call  @Dunmore2 and enjoyed a delightful dinner with them.  They had the most amazing seafood platter - it was a true crustacean-lover's dream!  As DH doesn't care much for seafood, he had pork loin and I had chicken breast, both were delicious and tons of food!

This morning we wandered up Las Ramblas to the Hard Rock Store, then over to La Boqueria market where we ran into about 500 school children and their teachers.  The noise was incredible as they were gagging and expressing their disgust at the butchered rabbits, pigs, sheep heads, etc.  LOL

After a stop at the Carrefour store (for crackers, as there won't be any to eat with the cheese on the ship), and wine, and a few sundry items, we again encountered another school group - this time much younger (likely grade 1) and their attendants - the line up of giggles and shreiks was literally 2 blocks long.  We figured it was time to get out of their way, so ended up in the middle of Las Ramblas at a table where we enjoyed our first sangria of the day at 12:25 noon.  Looks like we'll be giving our livers a real work out this cruise, and we're starting early!

@rafinmdyes, we are definitely going on the Oosterdam on Saturday, so please include us.

BTW, we are really enjoying the warm weather (+20C), and felt bad (okay not really) when our son sent photos from Calgary where they've just had a major snow event and a city bus got stuck in front of their house - going down the hill, not up.   LOL

Oh, and in my haste to get us out the door on Monday, I forgot to pack our HAL medallions - which we always wear to the Mariner event.  After a great discussion on another thread, I was determined to bring them along and wear them proudly.  Not going to happen this time.  Darn!

Take care everyone; stay safe!

I remember our first stop at Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas, Dec. 2003.  It was only our second cruise and in those days we didn't go too far from the U.S.  We also didn't take long cruises at that time due to DH's work schedule.  On that day, we took a little tour which drove us around getting an overall look at the island.  Then we did some shopping and bought me something sparkly!

And the opposite direction at Crown Bay.  Looks like there could be a BHB docked there to me.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJiVdH15eHXCP8hyJsG7rRk?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1365185495

Good morning.  I had a nice visit with DB and DSIL yesterday.  I made it in time for his PT session if you want to call it that.  He sat up in bed and walked a total of 15' around his bed with his walker and then he cried pain and sat back onto the bed.   While they were getting him up he started bleeding from his bed sores that he developed after his first surgery in September.   He had treatment at the hospital for it and was getting better and then the setback.   I cut my visit short to allow him some privacy.   He will be moved to a rehab about 10 miles away so he will be closer than the hospital.    Last time he was to be released to rehab he had a setback so fingers crossed for a safe trip there today.    Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.  On a happier note, my 97 year old friend Frank has been home for a couple weeks and is trying to give up his use of the cane.  All the time climbing in the woods foraging for mushrooms and handball into his late 80s gave him a good base to recover.

Today we have a wine dinner at a winery in Fennville MI.  When we first visited the place and walked in it looked like a fancy Oregon wine tasting room.   All their wines are great too, even reds which is unusual for Michigan.

Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports and all the great research for the food, wine and cocktails.  Prayers for all on our care list.   Thanks @RedneckBobfor the story about your rainy day in Saint Thomas.  Been there many times and will be back there around New Years on our 7 day pre-GSA cruise on the Volendam.    Have a great day!

Ottahand7,

The flooding was in Aruba not St Thomas, which is more like a desert than tropical. The day we arrived, Aruba received a third of their total yearly rainfall in one day.

I hope this doesn’t scare y’all but I forgot to include what I wore that day and on Halloween this past Monday. Please, don’t look at photo below if you have a weak heart.

Good morning from a gloomy, windy central Texas.  It was a little foggy earlier and I hope it is all gone before I head to Waco to see DH.   I've been on the phone twice with the surgeon's office about DH's post opt visit next Tuesday.  The rehab hospital is coordinating with the doctor's office to get DH there, but the office wanted some x-ray results before hand.  That was the one x-ray I don't have a disc for, so now the doctor's office is contacting the hospital for the x-ray results.  I'm just glad the case manager is handling all that is involved with the visit.

The first two days will be celebrated, but I am not a fan of stout.  When we toured the Guinness brewery, I tasted DH's glass of Guinness, handed it back and used my token for a Coke.  😄

I like the quote, and I hope all my reading has kept me from being wicked.

The rigatoni sounds good, but not the chickpeas or the kale.  Instead, I'll take @rafinmd Roy's alternative minus the pineapple.   I'll pass on the drink, and have my key lime fix in the form of a pie.  The wine sounds intriguing, but someone else would have to buy a bottle for me.

@dfish  Debbie, it sounds like you'll be more than ready for the movers tomorrow.  Don't worry about the recipes.  Like @cat shepard Ann said, we won't starve during your move.  Sending positive thoughts your way for a smooth and timely move.  Glad you could give some of the unneeded furniture and things away.

@MISTER 67  Just WOW and YIKES!  😱 on the prescription mix up, just when you really needed it.  Hope you got it straightened out early this morning.

@Rowsby  Sue, thank you for your wonderful pictures of Hawaii.  It was the ray of sunshine I needed here.  It's heavily overcast, and we're expecting storms and high winds tonight and tomorrow.

@Sharon in AZ  Safe travels to you and Craig.  BON VOYAGE! 🛳️

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, it seems things are really moving now.  I have my fingers crossed 🤞 there are no more snags, and that you will be back in your house in January.

@ottahand7  Nancy, I hope your DB's transfer to rehab goes smoothly, and that they can help him improve, and can take care of the bedsores.

@smitty34877  Terry, I hope your DH is continuing to recover from his procedure.

@lindaler  I hope you can get the new glasses straightened out and get a new pair.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, thank your for your St. Thomas pictures.

We have been to St. Thomas many times beginning in 1987 on our first cruise.  It was on the Costa Daphne, and we arrived at the ship in San Juan on Saturday, and our luggage arrived on the ship on Monday in Martinique.  We were still hooked on cruising.

We have only been to St. Thomas once since we got digital cameras.  That was in 2004 on the Golden Princess, on our older DD and DSIL wedding cruise.  They were married by the captain on a sea day.  That is the easy way to have a wedding.  We spent the day with DD and DSIL looking for the perfect sapphire for DD.  And she found the one she wanted at a reasonable price.

I don't have too many pictures from our day in St. Thomas.  The first two are from the ship.

Another difficult update: My DH and I know many have my DSIL (his DS) in your prayers. Late yesterday, a new symptom led to her having a carotid artery Doppler exam which showed a large, potentially fatal blood clot in her jugular vein. Her cardiologist and oncologist immediately put her on a high dose blood thinner and are now determining if/what other treatment to consider. If you have a prayer to spare today, please send it her way.

I have not caught up with Daily posts from yesterday or today. Know I send my 🙏prayers🙏 and my 🎉cheers🎉 to you as I catch up.

Good morning from the lovely Nieuw Statendam! We are at sea between the Dominican Republic and Key West. Only 2 days left in our cruise, sad to see it come to an end, it has been wonderful!

I’ve been so remiss in keeping up here and know I’ve missed too much. I promise to do better once we get home. Cheers to all who have been celebrating and prayers for all in need.

Good Thursday Morning.  I am in Hot Springs Village staying with my MIL this week.   Her memory is going, rapidly, and thought  while she was at a dr's office. I would check in and see what was happening with you all.  @HAL SailerI am so sorry to read that your DSIL is having more problems on top of her problems.  I am glad that the docs found the clot.  I hope the meds help.

My days here have been quiet.  The house is on a small lake, and the back deck faces the water.  There is a drought here, and the lake is half empty.  I have a view of water in the distance and a mud flat up close.  Still the reflection of the fall colors in the water is very pretty during the day, and at night the doc lights across the lake reflect in the water.  Early in the mornings fog rises and sweeps down the lake towards us, and then it clears up.  Last night 5 deer walked from the springs to the left of the house, and crossed in dark about 15 feet from me.

DH has been going through his Dad's old things (he passed in 2003), and yesterday I was pretty much left on my own.  My MIL gets hundreds of calls a day, which interupts

her from doing the things she started doing, and by mid day, nothing was done, she'd lost her glasses, misplaced two cats, and asked DH more than 20 times if he was ready to eat, when he had already eaten.

Just checking, I miss you all!

I agree with you Sandi.  I think someone should have let us know that he was not available rather than think he was ignoring us.  However, he was very apologetic for the wait.  The estimate is within the range of the contractor’s and we are happy that work can commence.
