Happy Hallowe'en.  I think the trick or treaters will have to wear a coat under their costumes tonight, today's high is only 3°C (37°F).  It'll be cooler after the sun goes down.  It may rain, I hope we don't get snow.

We were supposed to be in St Peter Port on our last cruise, but didn't because it was too choppy to tender.  Maybe another time.

Good Morning, thanks for the Halloween fleet report.  Today is an in office day and then I’m taking Tucker to the vet for his annual checkup.  I’ll pass on any meal with tofu.  Tonight it will be leftover chicken and rice.

Good morning friends!  A bit cooler this morning at 50 degrees.  It will be a cloudy day with a high of only 60F, which is about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday.  Tonight it will get down in the low 30's here so freeze warnings are out.  Hopefully this is a short-lived cold snap.  Yesterday afternoon was too sunny and hot to sit on the front porch so I escorted neighbor Brenda to the back deck where we sat in the shade while the breeze blew leaves off the trees.  Several landed right on us.  We had a good visit and hope to repeat our little get togethers often now that we're both home for a while.  She said their Volendam cruise in Alaska was a highlight of their 5 month trip.

 

Happy Halloween everyone!  And congrats to the Texas Rangers for their win last night.  Thank you Rich @richwmn for today's Daily and Fleet Report.  If I had a pumpkin I'd carve it.  No trick or treaters in my area though to see it.  Anyone know how to increase my psychic powers?  I should read up on that.  Congrats to the Girl Scouts on their founder Juliette Gordon Low's day of recognition.  I'm fine with the quote.  NO thank you to the meal suggestion.  What is a Fiscal Agent?  Dixie will have the answer.  I might take a sip of the chardonnay to see how I like it.  And it was an important day in the religious movement back in 1517.  Thanks to our gals Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepardfor their reporting today.

 

Prayers said early today for all on our Care list, those innocent people attacked and at war, the release of the hostages, my family and friends in need of help, and anyone not on the list but still in need of assistance.  Hoping Baby Murphy is getting along well on CPAP and that Tana has some relief from the pneumonia she had.  Good wishes to Lorraine @cruising sister's DB during his surgery today.  A salute to all cruising or preparing to cruise!  Enjoy being pampered and we hope for smooth seas and good weather along the way.  Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for your lists each day!  You do a wonderful job!  Praying for an improvement in your pain situation very soon.

 

The port is St. Peter Port on the island of Guernsey, UK.  What a lovely spot to visit!  It was our port twice before on December 30, 2021 and July 8, 2022.  I'll post the links for your convenience in retrieving photos.  I'm sure we'll see a lot since everybody loves St. Peter Port!

good morning, Dailyites, hope everyone is feeling well, or if not, at least a bit better than yesterday.    I am having a lot of difficulty walking, and I know I am going to be a drawback on this cruise.  Our 3 flights here were very tiring, and not comfortable, really.  It’s no fun flying anymore.

On prior visits we visited other places around town so I'll check for some photos from then.  I always enjoy this particular port and have been lucky to be able to tender in each visit due to decent weather.  Not always true unfortunately for some cruisers.

 

The September 14, 2018 stop at St. Peter Port on Prinsendam started out sunny but clouds arrived shortly after we got to shore.

 

From the pier we turned left and walked towards the La Valette bathing pools near the Underground Military Museum.

 

 

 

 

I'd be a little worried about bathing near those rocks, though.

We popped our heads into the Underground Military Museum but didn't want to spend our time underground so didn't go any farther than the entrance.

 

The people of Guernsey were under German occupation during WWII.  I've read the novel that describes the occupation twice now, and really enjoyed it.  It's called "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.  I highly recommend it.  You'll understand the title when you get into the book.

 

 

This port is a hilly one and on this second time here we found these stairs to move up to a different street.

Our next stop was Victoria Tower which was erected in honor of a visit by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1846.

 

 

Interesting that they let you borrow the key to go inside.

 

The cannon is one of two German WWI cannons buried as the second WW approached in 1940 so that the invading German forces would think the island wasn't fortified.  The two German cannons were excavated in 1978 and are back on display in the garden there.

 

Next we walked through the Candie Cemetery (which runs alongside the Candie Gardens).

Good morning from Baaar Harbor. It’s 35 degrees outside. We’ll have to Clear Customs onboard this morning which is scheduled to start approximately at 7:50. Our game plan is tender in around noon for a lobster lunch. Originally was going to to a favorite West Street Cafe but they are closing for the season tomorrow and thought they might be cleaning out their fridges. So we are going to Geddy’s. The ship is having another seafood fest in the Colonade (Lido).

Two of our guest entertainers performed again last night. They are both star quality performers. The male vocalist and actor played the Beast as in Beauty and the Beast for 600 performances in Mexico City. The female vocalist with 45 minutes rehearsal between them performed the duet from Beauty and Beast. Fantastic. 

Just heard the anchor being set so need to get ready and in need of coffee.

Fiscal Agent cocktail:

 

Ingredients
1 1/4 parts Maker's Mark® Bourbon
1/2 part Green Chartreuse Liqueur
1/2 part Carpano® Antica Vermouth
1/4 part Maraschino Liqueur
3 dashes Cacao Tincture
Garnish Orange Zest And Orange Peel, Burnt

Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass. Stir until well chilled and diluted. Strain into chilled coupe. Burn orange zest on top of the cocktail and discard the peel. Using a potato peeler, peel an orange peel, zest the fresh oil on top as well, then rub around the rim of the glass and drop in.
*Cacao tincture: Pack a mason jar with cacao nib. Fill with Makers Mark® Bourbon and cap. Let it sit until ready to serve, shaking a little every so often. When peak flavor has been achieved, strain through a chinois packed with cheese cloth and store in an empty bitters bottle or eye dropper.

Wild Pig Chardonnay

Never in my wildest imagination would I have guessed this Chardonnay was from France! we have wild pigs in Florida and except when they are babies - they are ugly brutes that are dangerous and do NOT deserve a wine named after them. Perhaps France’s wild pigs are more genteel. 😎. Widely available snd priced to try, online prices start at $8.99.

Winemaker’s notes
Located in the Languedoc area, the vineyards spread from the banks of the Rhône river in the East to the city of Carcassonne in the West, from the foothills of the Massif Central mountains in the North to the Mediterranean Sea in the South.
- Harvesting is done in the early morning, during the coolest period of the day.
- The grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and pressed in modern pneumatic presses. - The must is refrigerated and allowed to settle for 24 to 48 hours.
- The clear juice is drawn off and fermented using selected yeast.
- Temperature is regularly controlled to ensure that it does not exceed 16°C (60.8°F). - The wine is cold-filtered to avoid malolactic fermentation.
Pale gold colour with a bright green tint. Elegant with floral and honey flavours. A well-rounded, easy drinking wine with a touch of liveliness.
Best when served cool between 10-12°C (50-52°F). Delicious by itself or with fish, white meats and salads. Enjoy now and over the next 2 to 3 years.

another busy late morning - physio for my sciatica and curbside pick up.  With luck Ivan’s Bravecto is ready to be picked up too. 🤞. Huge alerts on FB locally for slippery roads, icy roads, 10 car pile up, etc.  Hope it is better by the time I head out.  Unfortunately the way that is less hilly is under construction and the road is closed so I have no choice but to go the very, steep hill way 😔 

 

 

 

Ivan’s and my afternoon walk got very shortened yesterday.  Ivan slipped 3 times and I feared he would get hurt.  I didn’t but it was tough walking.

Good Halloween morning from a cold central Texas where it is 37F and feels like 31F.  At least, the wind is down to a more comfortable 7 mph with 83% humidity and a dew point of 32F.   It should be sunny today with a high of 57F.  It seems we are a in a warming trend for the next week to ten days with more normal temperatures.  Tonight will be in the low 50s to upper 40s for the Trick or Treaters.  I remember it seemed to be cold on Halloween when I was growing up.

 

Since there is nothing happening in our little community and we don't get Trick or Treaters, I won't be carving a pumpkin today.  When the DDs were still at home, we carved many pumpkins over the years.  I don't have psychic powers, but I will salute Girl Scout Founder Juliette Gordon Low.

 

I like the Charlotte Bronte quote.

 

We'll skip today's meal and have more of the brisket and sides from last week.  We'll also pass on the drink and the wine.

 

We have been to St. Peter Port many times over the years, and I retrieve my pictures shortly.

We have been to St. Peter Port three times on BHBs, and never missed the port.  I sure thought we'd been there more.

 

In 2004, when the Noordam III stopped, it was a overcast and dreary day.  We took a city bus that made a loop of the island, but I don't have any pictures from the bus ride.   Here a a few from our walk around the harbor.  It was very low tide when these pictures were taken

We were back in St. Peter Port on the Prinsendam in 2016 and 2017.  In 2016, we walked over to the war museum and then to Castle Cornet that is in the background of the picture just above this.

 

 

 

 

In 2016, there was a lady near the museum entrance selling her book about her experiences in St. Peter Port during the war.  It was fascinating to talk to her and hear some of her stories.  I now regret that I didn't buy the book.

Happy Halloween everyone!  Thanks for the daily report, recipes and lists.  Careful carving your pumpkins today, we don’t want any additions to our prayer list.  Not sure how one goes about increasing one’s psychic powers, perhaps there is some sort of witch’s brew that you can drink? Nods to Girl Scout Founders Day, an organization that has produced many successful, confident women.  I like the quote.  Think I’ll pass up the meal suggestion.  I’ll also pass on today’s drink.  I haven’t been to today’s port.  Prayers for everyone on our prayer list.  Cheers to everyone celebrating happy events like trick-or-treating!

It is going to be another picture-perfect day here.  

I was under the weather yesterday with some sort of digestive ailment,  Thankfully it only lasted about 24 hours.  Seems to be over and I feel a lot better.

Interesting days.  I don’t think I’ll carve a pumpkin.  As for psychic powers, not sure I have any.  Girl Scout Founder, Juliette Lowe is a Savannah native and I have visited her home on one of our tours of Savannah.  Don’t think i have any photos.

i really like the quote.  I also would like to take a spin on it and say that “I would rather than be happy than right” at times.  Meaning it is Bette to keep quiet.

I think I will skip the meal.  Tofu is not my thing.

The drink is too strong, but I will try the wine.

I have not been to St. Peter Port but thank you for the photos.  It looks like a very pretty place.

And I have some good news.  At the risk of jinxing something good, I am reporting that Jim and I are taking a Caribbean Cruise on November 19 for 12 days on the Oceania Vista—the brand new ship.  We were able to snag the last stateroom, which must have been a cancellation.  It is not the worst room on the ship, Not the best either, but we’ll make do.  Jim really felt so bad about what happened that he wanted to do something to make the situation better.  We will be on the ship for Thanksgiving. Since the dining reservations for specialty restaurants are virtually non-existent, someone on the roll call invited us to join them.  I think that was really nice.  Also, we know some people who are on the cruise and are happy about it.

We are leaving on Nov. 16 and driving to Miami.  Staying in mid Florida the first night and then two nights in Miami prior to the cruise.  I am really excited to get a break.  And Jim seems happy too.

Please pray we are able to make this happen.

Good morning, Rich and all Dailyites.  It is a cold day here in Naperville.  They are saying we will have snow showers today.  Thanks for the Fleet Report and the daily contributions to this thread.

It’s a beautiful clear sunny day here in Bar Harbor and temp will rise to 42F. Emerald Princess has arrived so this just might be the final day of cruise ships visiting Bar Harbor. Could it be the last if city votes to ban cruise ships?

Still awaiting our time for Customs.
