The Fleet Report and Daily for Thursday January 18th,

Greetings from beautiful Punta Gorda

Another cool day with more rain on the way, so far this winter Florida hasn’t been the Sunshine State

The quote makes sense but could be debatable even though my home town of Chicago is the town that Billy Sunday couldn’t put down (from the song “Chicago”)

I like garlic mashed potatoes once in awhile

Have a great day and stay well

Good morning and Happy Thursday. I woke early today and will try to go back to sleep soon. I thought I posted on yesterday’s Daily but I think it just seemed like I did because I posted late on Tuesday’s thread. I got some more cruise things done. Craig got his flu and RSV. I’ve decided to forgo vaccinations right now because the biologic I’m on has safety precautions regarding them.

Thank you Sandi @StLouisCruisers for the link to today’s port. Makes it so much easier to locate pictures. These are pre iPhone so not as easy to find either.

Good evening!  We were in Newport on our wonderful Canada/New England cruise from New York to Quebec City in August 2009 on the Eurodam.  DM was along for that cruise and we three had a great time.  The day we were in Newport DM & I took a tour to the mansions and Craig went on a walking tour.  He had the camera and since this was pre iphones I have no pictures of the mansions.

The church where JFK and Jackie were married in 1953.  On our mansions tour we saw the sprawling estate where she lived when she was younger (from a distance, not inside).

Craig's tour didn't go inside the church but he did get this outside view.  The day had turned cloudy.

Good morning, everyone!

It is much warmer this morning in mid-Michigan at 12F with a projected high of 22.  I'll take it!  I keep watching the weather for the day we fly out and it seems to be holding as favorable. So far it is 36F and cloudy for the day we fly.

@seagarsmoker Wishing you tons of luck with the interview!  Sometimes the 3rd is a formality.  Let's hope so.

@kazu I am so glad you hired someone to do the driveway.  I'm glad that Vanessa, @JazzyV, also hired someone to do the back walk to the garage. I'm not sure any of us should be doing snow removal at our ages and time of life.

@ger_77 I am so sorry to hear about your friend who entered palliative care.  What a difficult decision.  I hope he can be kept comfortable.

@DeniseT Great job on the blood sugar!  Congratulations!

With all the talk recently and @ottahand7 Nancy's ordeal with RSV, I scheduled my vaccine for this morning.  That is not something I want to deal with on our cruise!  Then I am coming home to dust and vacuum.

We had garlic mashed potatoes recently except they were in the slow cooker and not roasted.  Well, the garlic may have been.  The garlic gets roasted in these potatoes. The first recipe uses red potatoes and doesn't peel them.  That is the trend these days.  https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/patrick-and-gina-neely/roasted-garlic-mashed-potatoes-recipe-1910773

But, mashed potatoes need something to go with, so how about some honey garlic pork roast?  If your going to do garlic, may as well do it up right!   https://iamhomesteader.com/honey-garlic-pork-loin/

Good morning from a gray foggy morning in Lima, Peru. Actually according to locals it’s like this most of the time. So I was glad that we had such a sunny sail in yesterday. Last night we went on a private Gourmet food tour in Lima. We dined at four different venues. First was direct waterfront where we enjoyed Pisco Sours and several appetizers of which one was ceviche. Peruvian custom is to eat seafood only at lunch to ensure its freshness. Our next stop was a famous restaurant where celebrities, statesman and royalty have dined. Around ten of us sampled just about every appetizers on the menu were sampled. Now I’m starting to get full. Two more unique venues and we returned to ship and caught the end of a colorful Peruvian Cultural Dance show. Some bags lined the hallway which brought smiles knowing we have nine more segments to go.

We sail at five for several sea days to Easter Island.

Thanks for the report.

We were lucky enough to eat there once also. I believe it was on our way to Machu Picchu. We did not have all the stops prior to this though! Interesting setting for sure.

Good Morning, thanks for the daily fleet report.  I’ve been on a bridge line since 5:30.  The customer did not do their copy correctly, so much for the dry run.  There is a strong chance that we will need to fall back and do the data center migration another day.  @dfish the pork looks very good with today’s meal suggestion.  @seagarsmoker best wishes on your interview.

Tax season is almost here.

Good Thursday Morning Dailyites!   The only thing my computer says this morning , is , "weather alert". Oh, there we go, it's 22 degrees.  Its very clear, and the sun is coming up over the trees.

I love Newport.  I was there a lot before cameras were invented....In other words, I have no pictures because I never vacationed there.  Went with my parents when my brother was looking at colleges in the north east, I dated a young man who attended ST. George and went to see him several times there, and I went back with my first husband on the way back from my parents house when they retired to VT for the summer months. I love the grand mansions, and the coastline there.  Also a lot of artists, and sail boats.

Roasted Garlic mashed potatoes, is also made in instant taters and we have had them twice this week.

THe nurse called me yesterday and said everything went fine with DH's surgery.  But when I got there and talked with the doc, apparently not everything went fine.  They had to put another stent in the lower part of his leg, this is his third,  but he said that the upper portion was like concrete, and that he needed further surgery at the hospital to try another way to open up the blocked artery. He is scheduled for Feb 6 at 6 am at Dekalb medical.  But the nurse who was scheduling the surgery said that she had to call me back for the exact time.  I was reading the follow up, and it says to improve his condition, to make sure he walks, quits smoking and changes his diet. They also said, no lifting or pulling  for 5-7 days.  I had walked out to give something to Bubbles and came in to find DH pulling the trash bag, a full trash bag out of the trash can.  Yes I yelled at him.

I told him that the only thing he was supposed to do yesterday was relax, but I did have to get his help. He had turned off the hot water heater at the neighbors (the ones who are away) and when I went over yesterday afternoon, there was water coming out of the room onto the driveway, which of course was ice by the door.  He turned it back on, and hopes that solves the problem. But then it hit him that by turning off the hot water, perhaps a pipe had cracked going to the hot water...we will find out today.

I love the quote.

@seagarsmokerBest of luck on interview 3 today!

@grapau27 and @aliaschief Thank you for the food porn.  I'm hungry.

@ger_77I wear the same amount of clothes in GA when it's in the 40's.

I did not take the pictures of the birds that I posted yesterday.  I wish I had a camera that good, and a hand that steady.

If the coffee is great, who needs gourmet?  (sometimes I add cinnamon to the coffee)

Still cold for us in north NJ but we’re safe and warm!  Glad we’re not in the frozen tundra. Please take no risks, that is dangerous cold!

@seagarsmoker we’re all on your side!  Excited for you!

Lenda, sorry for your sad news.

Jacqui, so glad you could get someone to help you!  A big reason for us moving was we could no longer find helpers to hire, which had been our plan as we aged. There were just fewer and fewer tradespeople nearby until there were none. Folks from town had plenty of work there without coming up to the rural areas. I’m glad you are finding support!  Vanessa too!

@Denise T sounds like you are on a good path!  Happy for you!  We are constantly learning as our needs change.

Welcome home Paul @kochleffel it’s a better day today for travel than tomorrow. Hoping you get home ok!

Blessings to all in need of healing, comfort or hope, especially our Care List. Cheers to those celebrating, and smooth travels to all away, especially our cruisers!

I have a third interview for the remote IT job I am a finalist for this afternoon. I am pretty sure this is the last interview as it is with upper management. Hopefully, I will know something by tomorrow. 🙂

Like @kazu, Jacqui, we don’t get the sun until late afternoon here and nothing melted anyway. I found myself walking the dogs very gingerly as not all neighbors got their sidewalks well cleared.

It’s tricky here for sure.  We don’t have sidewalks on our streets here so navigating around the ice banks is tricky - especially at pick up time (if you get my gist).

@ger_77 so sorry to hear of your friend having to enter palliative care 😢. I pray they can keep him comfortable 🙏

Good morning and prayers for all in need. It is disheartening to see all those who are on the care list.

Very cold here again with more snow overnight and tomorrow.  Going to get some groceries and then I will try to stay in until church on Sunday.

Our next trip is scheduled for February 8 on Vision of the Seas out of Baltimore.  Going with 3 others for a combined Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day trip.  DS left today for an 11 day trip out of Cape Liberty.  I actually had a last minute booking on hold this past Sunday to join her.  But then decided to not book thinking of all that would have had to have been done by today.  Tough decision since I do love going to the southern Caribbean.

Have a great day and stay safe and warm.  Katherine

Happy Friday Eve.  Best wishes @seagarsmoker,  Condolences to @Quartzsite Cruiser.  Healing wishes for @catmando..   Welcome home @kochleffel.

Thank you Rich, Jacqui, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann, and Dixie.  I wonder if maintenance  day includes medical as I maintain control of my cancer with my final treatment this afternoon.  I don't have customers but for those who do knowing them is important.  I'm not into gourmet coffee but prefer McDonalds.

I like the quote.  I have been to Newport many times, most recently in October on Crystal Serenity.

Those convicts went off to a miserable life and I think many of them were really political prisoners.

The meal sounds like a nice side dish.  My alternative is Citrus Delight, Apple Cider Brined Pork Chop with Cherry-Raisin Chutney and Cherry Crisp as served on MS Prinsendam January 18, 2019:

Not quite as cold as yesterday but still too cold to linger outdoors.

@Lady Hudson, I thought of you yesterday when I had some September Farms Maple Smoked cheddar cheese. It was delicious.

I was there yesterday!  Wanted to buy some of their chicken pot pie but their one freezer was down so I was out of luck.  I bought some marinara to make pasta last night and other snacks.  The place was empty because of the weather — you don’t see that very often.  Takes me under 10 minutes to drive there.  Katherine

Today's sunrise is from my one and only 2020 trip.  On January 18 I arrived in Los Angeles on Amtrak's Southwest Chief before boarding Crystal Serenity for a World Cruise segment to Sydney.

Happy Thursday to all and thanks for the daily and fleet reports.  I love doing maintenance myself so will celebrate the day.  When I worked fast food I was not a fan of customers and their ridiculous wants.  As the Burger King slogan sort of goes "No, you CAN'T have it your way!"  LOL!!  As a nurse, when we started looking at patients as customers - let's just say, I was not amused.  I refuse to buy gourmet coffee - coffee is coffee!!  Though I may add a little cinnamon and chocolate with the coffee grounds in the coffee maker.  Totally agree with the quote!!  Yum on the potatoes, the drink sounds like the "Mariner's Cocktail" I get with my little coupon on embarkation, the wine sounds good, and I have been to Newport RI but not on a BHB.  Interesting day in Australian history!

@seagarsmoker Lots of good thoughts going your way for your interview later today!  🤞

It has already been a busy morning - up at 0400, gym at 0530 and then a first visit for a study I am enrolled.  PT later today and hopefully I can change it from 1600 to something earlier.  We did a weigh-in and measurements at the gym.  We hadn't done it for a long, long time.  Cruising has had an impact on my progress!!🤭  I am up 10# from my lowest weight 15 months ago but down almost 30# since I started working out 5.5 years ago.  So not bad I think.

IMG_4088.JPG.bd1a0519180dc66a22661c274348fe74.JPG

I looked into the Alexa Emergency Response and I think I will do it.  Ordered the newest Alexa for my bedroom as I already have a Dot in my living room.  If you have Amazon Prime, it is $59/year or $5.99/month and is only available to US residents.  Granted, you have to be able to shout out to Alexa, but I figured if I couldn't, it wouldn't matter anyway.  We will see how it works.  I had heard of services that does a check-in daily but that just wouldn't fit into my way of life. (but thanks for that suggestion).

IMG_4096.thumb.JPG.ef44e11222ec657d0c02b97a48cc45f9.JPG

Thoughts for all of those on the care list and those who have lost people in their lives recently.  Cheers to those celebrating.

Interesting collection of days - many of my customers are internal and I know some of them better than I care to; I'll celebrate gourmet coffee any day; we have a few things around the house needing maintenance so maybe today's the day to address them.

Would enjoy the meal, maybe the drink & wine, went to the port on my last cruise before the shutdown but the pictures are on my computer (I'm using my phone). My sister was born in Newport, RI and enjoyed stopping there.

Currently  43° headed to sunny 61°. So glad the lows should be above freezing in a few days and stay that way when the precipitation returns.

Will be canceling our TP which means probably AK as well since they were B2B. Today is final payment and I don't see surgeon about my shoulder until next month. If he's operating before end of April,  I won't be in a condition to go. I was really looking forward to seeing Japan and Kodiak.

Prayers and positive thoughts for all.

Good morning from a sunny Quartzsite.  It is 46F with a 1.5mph breeze.  Our high will be 71F this afternoon, and with the sun and no wind on the south patio, it should be nice outside.

When DH still had his software company, he got to know his customers very well both when selling the software and during installation and training.  I think we'll be heading to Blythe today to get salt for the water softener, and a part for the kitchen faucet, so that covers maintenance day.  DH drinks coffee and cool days, but I'm not a coffee drinker, so it's up to him to celebrate gourmet coffee day.

I totally agree with today's quote by Billy Sunday.

We haven't had garlic mashed potatoes in a while, but I think it will be baked potatoes with our steak tonight.  Today's red wine would go nicely with the steak, if we had some.  I think it will be cardbordeaux instead.  The drink sounds refreshing.

We visited Newport twice in 2004 on b2b cruises out of NYC to Montreal and back.

An interesting day in Australian history in 1788.

@seagarsmoker  Best of luck today with the third interview.  I hope you get the job.

@kochleffel  Welcome home, Paul.

@Denise T  Denise, great news on the blood sugar numbers.

@ger_77  Gerry, I was sorry to read that your friend has entered palliative care.  I hope he can be made comfortable and pain free during his final days.  Thank you for your kind words.

@smitty34877  Terry, thanks for your nice words.  I have great memories of the classmate I was closer to, and she was my bridesmaid.

@kazu Jacqui and @JazzyV Vanessa. I'm glad you both hired someone to help with the ice and snow removal.

@dfish  Debbie, I hope the weather for the day you fly stays looking good.  Glad you are getting your RSV vaccine.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope you can get Chuck @catmando to follow doctor's orders.  I'm sorry he will need surgery to correct the remainder of the problems with his leg.

@RMLincoln  Thank you, Maureen.

@Lady Hudson  Katherine, I'm sorry you decided to cancel your cruise, but I'm glad you have a cruise to look forward to.

@rafinmd  Roy, thank you for the condolences.  I think in your case, your treatments could be considered maintenance, and since is the last treatment, you should celebrate the day.

@Haljo1935  I'm sorry you have to cancel your cruises, but getting your shoulder fixed is top priority.

We visited Newport, RI, twice in 2004 on the old Regal Princess.  Evidently, I didn't take many pictures the first stop on October 2, 2004, when we did a ho-ho type tour.  And I cannot find pictures from our second stop, though I should have some.  That day, at the suggestion of a friend, we toured Rough Point, Doris Duke's Newport cottage.

All of my pictures were taken on our tour.

There should be more pictures since I remember walking around town after our tour, and I know I took pictures when we toured Rough Point.  I will check my backup picture files later.  However, they might have been lost when an update to my iPad erased all the pictures from the iPad.  Later, when DH finally managed to get them reloaded, not all the pictures were there.

@seagarsmoker good luck today!

@marshhawk so sorry Chuck has to go back for more surgery.

Two rough nights, hallucinations and last night coughing I am under the covers in our cool room and try to get some sleep.  Clouds and sun here in St. Lucia.  We are going to try to have dinner on our balcony tonight,  very windy this trip so far.  Very high winds last night.
