seadays4me Posted April 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2019 Oh, the one I got by booking early on center hump by the elevators? They are offering you another balcony (same category) in a location not as good as the one you have. Well, I'm not stupid, but I wanted to help them out. I said you can have it, just upgrade us to a Junior Suite. I guess it wasn't that important to them. That was one weird phone call. 2

molole Posted April 6, 2019 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2019 Wow that's so weird. I wonder who the other cruisers are. I mean we all have been there - our preferred cabin already taken but how often do you get to negotiate? At least they didn't just take it away from you without your consent.

This cruise isn't until 2020 on the Adventure and all the Hump cabins are gone. But there are plenty of other cabins left.

Perhaps they were trying to accommodate a situation with family that had 2 adults and minors and needed a Balcony Double with a Triple or Quad Interior for the minors directly across the hall.... This, or some other unique scenario. Again, who knows? They aren't going to drag you into the logistical process. Perhaps they also had 4 or 5 other identical or similar Balcony=Interior solutions so they moved on without a JS upgrade offer. It's rare for this to happen but when the Sail Support departments of any of he cruise lines need to do this, they are not as emotionally attached to the "Great Location " / "Lousy Location" as the passenger. Casino Comp Chick Posted April 7, 2019 #12 Share Posted April 7, 2019 (edited) That happened to me on NCL, I booked a 2BR haven suite overlooking the courtyard on the day they released bookings (Breakaway was not even built when we booked), I got a phone call about a year later asking us to switch cabins and go next to the Haven restaurant (yes I am paying top dollar to listen to dishes and pots and pans being banged around)....oh but we will give you $200 OBC. They gave me a lame story about needing it for an older person (cabin was not HC), I said well the room you want me to take is closer to the restaurant and the bar and the Haven entrance so how could that possibly be better for them? And by the way have you not seen on my reservation where I have 2 passengers over the age of 70? Thank you, have a nice day was their response. I book on day one because I know what prime real estate is, sorry they were a year late to the party but there was no way I was giving up my cabin for $200 bucks. blackshirt Posted April 7, 2019 #13 Share Posted April 7, 2019 We had a similar offer last fall. We were traveling with friends and each had a JS. Our TA was contacted by Royal (since we have the same TA and our reservations were linked) wanting to put the 4 of us into a Grand Suite. We declined. This was for the last Pacific Coast itinerary on Explorer and I suspect they were overbooked.
mayleeman Posted April 7, 2019 #14 Share Posted April 7, 2019 Perhaps the elevator was the reason.

Rare island lady Posted April 7, 2019 #16 Share Posted April 7, 2019 A couple of years ago we had an excellent hump cabin location on Serenade, which we luckily booked early to get. I had "automatic upgrade" in my profile. When I went in to print my luggage tags, I noticed a new number. They had upgraded us to an aft JS (not direct wake, just towards the aft). Nice upgrade, but not a great location. Found out there were several of us D+ that had D1 hump cabins that were upgraded. Was told on phone call (I wanted my old cabin back, but too late) that a group wanted the hump cabins...so RCI was switching people out.

That would be my guess. We were in a situation that Celebrity mess up our cabin selection and gave us the wrong cabin. We met the person they asked to change cabins. They gave her in addition to changing cabins $300 OBC.

They were further thinking that they had other passengers they could ask to switch who might not really care about their location and would say ok....so when you said no they happily moved on down the list rather than offer you some additional incentive.

Florida_cruisers Posted April 8, 2019 #24 Share Posted April 8, 2019 Oh oh, I think I do have it in my profile to automatically upgrade us but now I want to ensure my profile doesn’t say to automatically upgrade us. I don’t see it anywhere on my profile under the new format. Where is it now?

Called to switch to that one from the one assigned. We ended up with a JS on our 11 night cruise for the original price of the D1 I paid. 😉 So yeah, having it set as automatic worked for us...maybe not for all...but we were happy with the extra cabin space, bigger balcony, and full tub.
