Is this possible? Anyone ever done this?

My DW wife and I are going on cruise to Alaska in June on the Ruby out of Pier 91, we do this every year. We are both elite and have priority boarding. This year we are taking another couple with us who have never cruised before, Blue cards, cruise virgins. I get the feeling that they are scared about the whole embarkation process. Would it be possible for us to be their tour guide, escort and have them check in at the same time we check in and have them board at the same time we do?

Of course you may all board at the same time, just get in the regular line not the priority boarding line.

What specifically do they seem afraid of? We were all “blue cards” at one point, and none of us died during embarkation. 🙂 In fact, we all chose to come back, so it can’t be that bad! 

 

I’d either talk them through what to expect, or hold back to board alongside them.

They can board with you.  My mother is Elite.  When my wife and i cruised with her and my brother we were allowed to board with her.  This was on the Ruby.

When we have taken my parents with us, we just have them follow us.  No problems with them coming with us (platinum).  We usually do not get to the port early, so there are not long lines at any of the lines.

It all depends on how early you arrive.

 

They can glom onto you in the check in line but if boarding has not started yet only the Elites and their actual cabinmates will be given the earliest boarding group numbers. Or be allowed to wait in the Elite seating area (assuming Seattle has one).

 

If you don't check in until after the first few groups have been called they will probably allow you to go straight to the gangway all together.

Based on the responses, no one here knows! We did when we were newbies, we glomed ono friends for priority check in, but that was ages ago. I say just go for it!

I would just show up later when there is not a line and board together. Just skip your priority barding.

I remember a cruise where my husband and I were in a full suite and had priority boarding , and my parents still only  had gold cards, but we all checked in together and all boarded on a priority basis together.  In those days we had a little packet with a priority boarding sticker on it and we simply showed that upon boarding.  It didn’t even say “priority boarding “ on the boarding passes way back then.

The Pier 91 Princess check-in line is very fast.  Depending when you arrive it may not make a difference whether you are in the priority line or the regular line.  If you arrive earlier enough in the morning before the ship has started boarding, and qualify to be seated in the Elite seating area, please be advised that that area is smaller than last year due to loss of space to accommodate additional scanners for passengers' carry-on luggage.  (The mega ship RCL Ovation of the Seas will be using the same dock as the Ruby (on Fridays) and the added security lines were needed to process those 4,900 passengers).  So, only those passengers who truly qualify to sit in that area will be allowed in there.

I agree with the posters who suggest that you wait until regular boarding and then go with your friends.  Although there are some who have said that you could all go through priority boarding, in the event that they deny your friends it could be awkward and uncomfortable for them.  Not a good way to start their first cruise.

If it were me, I would approach boarding with the friends in tow. If they are allowed to board, great. Everyone is on board together. 

 

If they are denied boarding, everyone have a nice laugh, enjoy the moment then board with them in their boarding group. (Nothing says elites MUST board early.) Everyone is on board together.  

 

Or as a last resort. You board with the elites, they board with their group and then meet up in the bar so everyone can swap stories.

Two weeks ago got on the Ruby. We by passed the "regular" line with 8 people in it and went directly to an open station. Despite all the different stations, cards/medallions are retrieved from central table by the staff.

Just ask. It happens. Read through Rougeperson's current review on these boards. He did just what you mention. No need to be concerned if it is not allowed. It's so easy to board.

Last September, upon arrival at pier 91, I showed my priority boarding pass to a "traffic director" and asked if my daughter and son-in-law (whose cabin was next door to ours) could go thru check-in with us, as we were traveling together, and they were new to Princess. We were waved right on to the priority check-in line. After we had all been checked-in, they waited with us in the priority boarding area. No one seemed to be monitoring who was entering that waiting area.

I will say it was busy when we arrived, as it was about 11:30AM, but not crazy busy with long lines. Not sure if that affected the "traffic director's" decision to allow us to check in together. 

If the answer had been no, I would have backed off and checked in  with them in the "regular" line.

 

So it's worth a try, IMO.

Yes it can be done as others have said.  Had friends with us join the priority line and lounge just recently.

We were a group of six one couple elite one platinum and one blue.....they let all of us board with our elite friends......first group.  This was early April aboard the Royal.......pier 91.

What is funny, when we checked in at LA, the elite line was so long it was no longer in their roped area and us normal folks had zero wait. Like 20 people waiting for people to check in! As for getting onto the boat, I have zero clue. lol
