So we cruised the Escape out of NY to Bermuda last August 2018.  We are doing the Escape again to Bermuda again this October.  Was just looking at the entertainment options and this canNOT be real.  the EXACT same freaking entertainment?  SAME shows?  how can this be?  I know it is the same ship and the same itinerary but it is over a year later....anyone every experience this?  any insight?  I feel GIPPED and annoyed..looks like we will be going to bed early every night...grrrrr….

Very common across all lines. Shows do not change very often, especially the production shows.

Not only that but all the staterooms have the same front doors as they did in August 2018. So frustrating.

I think it would have been worse if she threatened to never go on NCL again -- at this point, she said she won't post again...

My polite 2cents..main shows stay on main ships. It's the local acts that pack small that move around every few weeks to every few ships. Magician friend changes every few weeks depending on ship n itinerary.

The main shows are rehearsed in an exact duplicate stage in miami making change less frequent..

Posters had basically repeated previous answers! And we all know the OP doesn't like repetition! EVER 😉

This is very true. The shows will normally stay on a ship for years. There are other things to do on ships at night: head to a piano bar for a drink or two, try a show, there must be one, you did not see, spend time in the atrium, even head to the casino for a little while if you enjoy playing the slots or whatever.  This is the reason we rarely bother with shows anymore. There was a time when every night we looked forward to the show.  I don't think anyone set out to upset you, most have just tried to explain the situation. If you are still reading and just not posting have a good cruise anyway

I believe it is very difficult to get any changes made by the author. If the show is too long or has content not appropriate for your audience, find another one. Even small changes (like changing a word) aren’t easy.

I agree with you that it's probably difficult to get any changes made by the author but many shows don't need that to be changed.

For example Blue Man Group should have been very easy to change. They can remove, add and/or change parts of the show without too much work. (Of course some training and maybe new logistic is needed.)

Agree the comments weren't that bad, unless the OP took exception to being corrected on spelling. Most were just trying to explain why shows don't change.

IMO cruising is more about getting away, relaxing, and having fun. Shows are nice however not something that one should be irritated about.

Escape was our favorite ship with plenty of activities.

I can’t imagine being legally allowed to change anything in that show,

Not even if they have it in the contract from the beginning? I can't see a problem with writing in the contract that the show shall be changed for example once a year.

we went on Escape in 2016 and going on the breakaway and I too was surprised its the same ROCK OF AGES.   I cant believe they dont change the entertainment more often.

I think “Rock of Ages” went on a 5 year run at The Venetian in Vegas...not surprised at a run of a few years on a cruise ship.

You should have done more research before booking. Shows generally stay the same on ships until they go into drydock for a refurb, and generally even longer than that.

It is expensive to produce shows for cruise ships, cast them, build the sets, costumes, etc. And the logistics of doing all that on a vessel that is never in one place for more than a day is daunting. It is not feasible or practical for ships to rotate shows frequently.

If they ask the "owner" of the show they can probably change it. Some shows, like Rock of Ages, has a story which may be difficult to change but if not I see no reason why changes can't be made with the "owners" permission.

The shows are quite controlled and must adhere to the lyrics, the dance routines, the costumes, etc of each show.  If any of this is changed, that would be considered a breach of contract by the shows' owners.

Just as an example, there are many Blue Man Group shows that are all the same.  If changed in any way, Blue Man Group corporate would have grounds for a law suite.

So, these shows CAN NOT be changed.

I really don't understand. Why can't the show be changed if it's in the contract with the shows "owner"? What is the problem with having it in the contract that the show shall be changed for example once every year?

Why should for example the Blue Man Group corporate have grouds for a law suite if  it's in the contract that the show shall be changed every year? (I don't say that they had that in the contract but they could have it.)

I have only seen Blue Man Group on NCL but as I understand it the show on the Epic was shorter than the shows in for example Las Vegas or New York so they had material enough to change the show without too much job.

I don't say that NCL can just change the show but why can't they have it in the contract with the different shows "owners"?

I really don't try to argue with you, I seriously don't understand what you mean.

Shows don’t work like that, this is someone’s work of art, not something to be changed by others. It’s licensed for a reason. Blue Man Group is not going to authorize a cruise line to change their product.

Excellent point.  It would be like changing the notes to Gershwin or Andrew Lloyd Webber productions.

These are massive entertainment productions.  Their art is their brand.  To change it, would bastardize their art.

If you do a behind the scenes tour of these stage productions, you'd get a better idea of what even the slightest change would mean for the entire production.

OP wants them to change the entire production for a new one in just a few months time.  That would be  massive and disruptive.  I would imagine it would probably not be done until a dry dock.

Just as an FYI:  There are many times that music is re-arranged from its original form for specific purposes and the arrangers/users have to get a special license from the person or organization (i.e., ASCAP, BMI) that owns the music to do this.  An example is the Drum Corps International groups that do this all the time.  Beyond this, they also have to pay for the performance rights, the audio rights, the video syncing rights, etc., etc.
