ValerieJo Posted July 23 #126252 Share Posted July 23 @lenquixote66 I'm so sorry to read about your grand dog. You really do become attached to them. Hoping things go better than expected.
ValerieJo Posted July 23 #126253 Share Posted July 23 Ended up having a really nice weekend. I invited a few of my friends up to the lake house for a girl's weekend. Things went better than I expected. I backed the boat out of the dock, drove around the lake, parked at the sand bar for a bit for some swimming and returned to our dock all without incident. It was my first time handling the boat on my own. I feel a bit more confident, if I want to drive it again. (Although, I much prefer to have Doug drive me around). 😄 After the girls all left, I made the trek home. Got home on Sunday afternoon and got ready to head to a celebration dinner with the whole family. My grandson graduated High School last month and he's ready to take on an apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic. He really likes working with his hands and is interested in all things mechanical. Hope everyone has a wonderful evening and those that are cruising, have a wonderful time.

I have been visualizing the procedures needed for the last few days, and it went flawlessly. I have two more weeks to go showering in the shower chair…sigh. I don’t mean to sound too unhappy…because when this initially happened I hadn’t been able to take any kind of shower for five days 🙀. But I’d love to be able to stand up…and scrub my back…and just really enjoy my shower.

For someone who often gets in two showers a day, five days without one would be beyond my tolerance level.
helen haywood Posted July 23 #126256 Share Posted July 23 Well, as I’m sure you know, what one has to tolerate…one tolerates. That first future “real” shower will feel really great!!
BonTexasNY Posted July 23 #126257 Share Posted July 23 @Sea Dog Greg, I heard Matt from RCI blog answer your question on Omakase. I almost shouted out loud "Hey I know him"! @helen haywood I never appreciated a standing shower as much as I did after 8 weeks of sitting in a shower chair after ankle surgery. I know your first real shower after so much sitting will feel as wonderful as mine did. Hoping your PT continues to go well. 6

I wish all the best to that sweet doggie.

But 2 weeks without bathing was really tough. We have tub/shower combo, and the PT girls couldn't figure it out. So I did. Wheelchair to side of tub, legs in and grab grab bar. Bill slid shower seat behind me and I sat down to wash my hair. Then grab bar and one free hand to soap everything. Bill used the handheld wand to rinse me off. Then reversed to wheelchair. It went really well. I am getting a little stronger every day.

A good read for anyone fans of Myron and Win. I didn’t expect the ending, but that is all I will say. Don’t want to spoil it for anyone. My favorite author! Thank you!

Rare aussielozzie18 Posted July 23 #126264 Share Posted July 23 My son is having an eventful evening. His summer job is in Jasper. At 10.30pm his time, an evacuation order went out for the town and Jasper NP due to wildfires. Fortunately, he is smart enough to always have a full tank of petrol in his car. He loaded up the car and with only one road open has driven west and is safely across the border into B.C to the closest town. With poor phone reception and everything being a bit chaotic, he has just decided to sleep in his car until the morning, when he will update us further. 16

I don't like "afts", involving a long walk to elevators/stairs, but that's my very personal preference 😁 3

Been to Grand Cayman once a long time ago and never been to Puerto Plata. We too avoid afts due to the long walk but it might be a good trade off in this case to avoid middle of the night noise. Strange that they would put all of the Sky Suites in a noisy area. Highest isn't always best.

I'm sure it felt so good. Eric had a similar situation when he fractured his coccyx (I think that's what it was called). The OT and PT couldn't figure it out either. They suggested a transfer board so we ordered one but that didn't fit. So we figured it out pretty much like you did. Our master bathroom has been remodeled and now have stand up shower only. We hardly ever used the jacuzzi tub since the kids grew up. Hopefully the pain is subsiding😍 3

brookmill18 Posted July 23 #126274 Share Posted July 23 We're headed out on the same cruise as @TravelGirlinDallas in just a few weeks. We did a land based trip in Aruba a few years ago but never a cruise stop. We are in port from 8am-11pm so I was thinking of trying to see a bit of the island but DH isn't sure he wants to rent a car. Has anyone done a private or semi-private tour of the island they'd recommend? Thought we could do WestDeck for drinks or apps (is that walking distance from cruise port?) to see sunset. We have a snorkeling tour booked for Bonnaire and are going to do a beach day in Curaco so was thinking of trying to get to see the Northern part of Aruba with the California Lighthouse and maybe some of the island we didn't get to see when we did our resort stay on Palm Beach.
