Rare John&LaLa Posted September 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2020 We typically sail 15-20 times a year. Starting to realize I dont miss it as much as I thought I would. Anybody else? Of course, ridiculously low prices will lure me back😉 6 1

firefly333 Posted September 19, 2020 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2020 I already took a 5 year break and wanted to come back. Usually I book last minute whatever is the best deal. This is first time to book ahead, let alone so many cruises booked in advance. I'm more the immediate gratification type and normally wouldnt even book 6 months out, cant stand the waiting. This is driving me crazy in all honesty.
Mapleleafforever Posted September 19, 2020 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) First off, great question! My answer is it's too soon to tell for us. We typically do one (but have done two) Caribbean cruises per winter and have also cruised in Alaska and Europe (while still having our yearly Caribbean cruise). We always looked forward to getting away from our Canadian winter for a week or 2 and we just had one this past February so this winter will be very telling. I do miss talking about legit cruising though and not just speculation and rumours regarding this pandemic. One thing is for certain though, after just watching a video of the European MSC safety precautions I can tell you that we won't be cruising until said precautions are no longer needed. I wear a mask at home and will never be that person not wearing one but I refuse to wear one on vacation. We have many years of cruising (or vacations for that matter) so we'll be patient and wait it out. We have also been looking at more places in Canada that we'd like to visit instead of cruising for a few years......there are many. This too shall pass..... Rocket3D Posted September 19, 2020 #7 Share Posted September 19, 2020 We miss the carefree, fun times we had during the "Golden Age of Cruising" which ended in March 2020 as a result of Covid pandemic. Agree, we will wait and see.... no rush. We want safe, fun cruises.

We do still miss cruising as we knew it but the new reality of masks, testing, long queues etc fills us with caution and alternative holidays look more appealing. Great idea for a thread BTW John. 1

emeraldcity Posted September 19, 2020 #16 Share Posted September 19, 2020 I miss it horribly. I know I'm lucky in that I got in that Transatlantic in March, and a 5-day on the Independence before it, but I've been home for six months now and the thing that bothers me most is that I've waited all these years to be retired and be able to go wherever I want, whenever I want. And now I can't. Cruising makes a great vacation option for the solo traveler. It's a much more social setting than a resort hotel. I have a group I was to have cruised with this fall (we met on a TA years ago) and we're all extremely disappointed that this stoppage is preventing us from seeing each other again. The last time we got together was October last year. Since many of the group are international, there is no way to visit each other, even if we wanted to. We've pushed our get together back a full year, when we hope to meet up in Rome to spend two cruises on the Odyssey. Another year is a long time to wait...
Rare Sea Dog Posted September 19, 2020 #17 Share Posted September 19, 2020 @John&LaLa With the number of cruises you have under your belt, I can see why you may feel that way. For me unfortunately, we loved our initial honeymoon cruise but did not cruise after the birth of our son for 20 years. Now we are trying to make up for lost time. I am sad that we did not make time for ourselves all those years and cruise. Now that I am a senior we will try and cruise anytime we can. I can't wait to get back on a ship. I just hope it's sooner rather than later.
Bobal Posted September 19, 2020 #18 Share Posted September 19, 2020 Me. I don’t miss cruising and was actually losing interest in it before Covid - too many same old ports and itineraries. Just got back home to UK today after 2 amazing weeks in Portugal - stunning weather, villa with our own pool and food far superior to any we've ever had on a cruise ship, and at less than we've paid on cruises in the last few years. We now have to quarantine for 2 weeks but its totally worth it for the time we had Two cruises booked next year on RC and no plans to book any more
Rare L454S Posted September 19, 2020 #19 Share Posted September 19, 2020 We have had 6 sailings cancelled to this point. We have gotten all our monies back as we opted to not participate in the FCC carnival. Agree with you 100%, am not missing it as much as i thought we would. Would still love to cruise again ASAP, but won't with all the argued over "NEW" protocols. Can wear a mask sometimes at home, not on a cruise.

I lose weight on a cruise. I eat healthier, don’t eat desserts, use the stairs as much as possible and don’t eat junk food like I do at home. I rarely drink unless I’m cruising with certain friends. I need 2 cruises ASAP to lose 10 pounds a cruise.
Milwaukee Eight Posted September 19, 2020 #22 Share Posted September 19, 2020 We booked two cruises because the L&S were so crazy low to pass up. We also booked a Charter that we had done in the past because they changed ships and itinerary. M8
DaniDanielle Posted September 19, 2020 #23 Share Posted September 19, 2020 When I start to miss cruising I think about coming home, unpacking, doing laundry etc. Don’t miss getting off the ship, finding the luggage and heading home to that. 2

But we are saving money by my hubs not being in the ships casino!
Rare Tapi Posted September 19, 2020 #25 Share Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) 2 hours ago, John&LaLa said: We typically sail 15-20 times a year. Dang, can you adopt me? 🤣 To answer your question, I only cruise 1-2 times a year. Our last one was February 2020 and the next one is scheduled for February 2021. If that one is a go, I will not have missed any cruises due to the pandemic and not enough time will have gone by to really know if I miss it out of the ordinary. Let’s see what happens. About pricing, it’s hard to pass up some of the deals that I’ve recently seen. In fact, our next cruise was supposed to be a Mexican Riviera on Princess, but after seeing some insane deals on MSC, we switched and will now do that instead. Hard to pass up a 7 night cruise in a balcony stateroom for $165pp. Edited September 19, 2020 by Tapi
