Anyone still booking cruises, or have we all given up?

The locals (apparently most of them by the vote they had) voted last November  to ban the larger cruise ships.  Smaller ones still welcome, but limiting also the numbers that can disembark and come into the town.

Thanks for that info, didn't know about that!  Did some research and it appears they are limiting cruise ship visitors to 1500...the radiance has 2500, so wonder how that will work?

Add to that COVID concerns, maybe my cruise choice was not as clever has I thought!

I know the area won't allow the larger ships and has limited hours when they can visit (sunset...) but didn't know there was new concerns.  Is it COVID related, or bigger than that?

Thanks

Agree with post #175 from Pat. The last I heard anything was in November 2020 and the talk on the streets at that time was Key West voted top to ban large cruise ships from docking and limiting cruise visitors to 1,500 per day. Big cruise ships will no longer welcome. So the Radiance would fall in the 'you're no longer welcome" category. Haven't heard anymore rumbling about so far this year.

It won't.  From article on how the vote went stating "total"  number cruise ship visitors (more than one ship).  Ship size no more than 1300 passengers:

Residents of Key West, Florida, have voted to impose new restrictions on cruise ships looking to pull into the four-square-mile island that's home to the southernmost point in the U.S.

Residents voted for three separate referendums: one to prohibit cruise ships carrying more than 1,300 passengers from docking in Key West, another to limit the total number of visitors to Key West from cruise ships to 1,500 per day, and a third that would prioritize dock access for cruise lines with the best health and environmental records.

About 81% of Key West residents voted in favor of prioritizing cruise lines with stronger health and environmental records. And more than 60% of residents voted for each of the other two measures to limit cruise activity.

I've gotten 3 offers the week from Casino Royale for a free cruise for 2, but most of the dates (IMO) are not realistic.  There was a date for Jan 2022, that MIGHT work, but until my family get the vaccine and we see how things play out, I'm passing (and I hate that).

Had to CX our April 4th Allure for the 5th time!  Went ahead with Sept. 12th 2021 on Allure out of the Cape. IF we go, D&A mbrs get double double points (not that it's worth that much any more) it'll take till I turn 98 to get to Pinnacle! HA.  Fingers and toes crossed AGAIN.  Hopefully many will have vaccine by then.  Personally, we are on a list in our area pharmacies (several) but they are being very slow about it, I must say.

Unless the restrictions are lifted, the Radiance isn’t going to go there.  That’s how it’s going to work.  You should consider that you may end up with a 5-night cruise with only one stop, and if that’s acceptable to you.

We've got a cabin with a great balcony and a $40 per day drink package, so if they will let us board, we will go even if the ship just does in circles in the sea!

We have one cruise scheduled for November 2021 and one scheduled for April 2022. We will see if either one happens. We had a November 2020 and April 2021 cruise cancelled. We just shifted the nonrefundable deposit to later cruises.  Better than losing our $500.  I guess we will sail eventually.

Just canceled our July Oasis sailing. It was 9 nights but since we don't know what the itinerary will change to, we decided its not worth it. definitely don't want to do PC, nassau, and cococay out of NJ again. only booked this sailing for the itinerary of St Maarten, St Thomas, & Labadee.

We probably would have waited it out but since it took so long to get my FCC and refunds from my canceled Jan 2 sailing on Grandeur, I decided it wasn't worth letting RCI hold on to more of my money with so much unknown.

Booked 11 night from NJ in Jan 22 on Anthem yesterday using FCC. We did this sailing Jan 2020 before everything shut down and loved it. Also, prices were great. I just like having something to look forward to, even if its about a year away...

We enjoyed Summit, really wanted to see how her face lift turned out but, alas, the May cruise we wanted to book disappeared 😢

We did a 14 Night US/Canada (R/T from Bayonne) cruise September 2019 on the Summit. We liked  the updates done during the revolution. We also have cruised on the Summit before the revolution.

My hobby this past year has been booking, cancelling, booking again.  I am now out of calendar time and waiting anxiously for 2023 schedules.  Really, really hoping that by July 2021 the world will get its act together regarding vaccines and masks.

One cruise pending - and if I could cancel and get full refund I would. No plan on booking any other cruises and no desire to cruise until all predicted restrictions are no longer in place.

Desperate to get away - but not on a cruise.

I have bookings, but right now I'm burnt out on the whole cruising mess.

Turning my thoughts to a ocean front condo as a way of being on the beach.  Kinda tired of the whole booking, cancelling, rebooking cycle. Until there is actual start up news, not conjecture I'm done.
