Since we usually do b2b2b2b... cruises, we've been to Sitka 12 times on the 14 day Alaska cruise.  It is one of my favorite Alaskan ports and one of the prettiest.

Did Sitka ever get cancelled as a stop because of weather? We had Sitka as a scheduled port in September of 2021, but plans changed because of high winds and we didn't even sail on that side of the island.

Good evening from the Oosterdam. We departed Naples about 30 minutes ago. I took a wonderful walking tour with food stops today. It was probably one of the best walking tours I’ve ever taken. I’ll share just a few pictures.

We are in the Spanish area, where Mafia started.

The “new” castle. A wedding was starting and it was very busy. Those attending looked very important. The flowers were gorgeous.

@ger_77 Gerry, what a kind, thoughtful thing you are doing for the stillborn babies and families. My DM had a stillborn baby, my older sister, so this brought tears to my eyes. God bless you.

I have been to Sitka twice. We tendered in 2012 and docked and shuttled in 2019.

I actually worked for the son of the inventor of the Duncan yo-yo back in the 70’s. I never could get one going though.

Good afternoon, Friends. Thank you for the Daily, the Lists and the Recipes.

D-Day is very important to remember and honor all our heroes.

I haven't been to one in about a dozen years, but there are still a few drive-in theaters in Florida. I am not a gardener. I could get a yoyo going, but never could do the tricks.

I like the quote. Will pass on the meal.

It's been a quiet day so far. Cleaned some of the floors and am going to the pool in a few minutes.

Maxine, @AncientWanderer, what a cute DGS you have. Thank you for sharing.

Gerry, @ger_77, such a beautiful act of love. You have me wondering if similar programs exist here.

Have a great rest of your day everyone.

🙏 and 🎉 for those on our lists.

Haven't posted in a while.  But my new iPad is my "excuse."  Old one gave up the ghost after about 9 years, so I had to bit the bullet and get a new one.  Got it all set up by myself, and I am very thankful it was so easy!

I am so excited about my TA in the fall, as our first stop after Rotterdam is Le Havre, where  I have scheduled a trip to visit the D-Day beaches!  That is a bucket list item, so another thing crossed off.  My DM had a cousin who was in D+6 on Omaha, and then was in the Battle of the Bulge!

Guess I got gardening day covered - I just trimmed some overgrown bushes in front of my house.  I wasn't supposed to be doing that, but after turning in a request for over 2 years to the HOA, I took the matter in my own hands.  I am sore from doing that, because that is not something an 80 year old woman should be doing!!

@dfish, I am so happy for you that your surgery was so successful and that your recovery is going smoothly.  I have always said that my gallbladder surgery was the easiest surgery I ever had.  When I had it in '98, I fixed Christmas dinner for DH and 2 guests two weeks later!

@StLouisCruisersand @Heartgrove, my prayers for both your family members who are suffering so much.  Wishing recovery and peace for all.

My sister has asked me to accompany her on a road trip to SE Colorado in July to have a service and burial of ashes for her late DH.  We are both working on hotels for a portion of the trip, and it is astounding how expensive everything has become.  She has to pay all of the gas, which I don't envy.  After checking hotel prices, it seems that cruises are a real bargain!

Thanks to everyone who makes this place so special.  With continued prayers for all on the Care List!  Have a great rest of the day, everyone!

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

D-Day was an important day in US history and we should be grateful to all those heroes who were involved. I haven't been to a drive-in movie or played with a yo-yo since teenage years. I will get a little exercise in the garden later.

Good quote. I'll pass on the meal and drink. I like the wine, but too expensive for me.

I have been to Sitka.

Another warm and sunny day here, with possible rain later.  No plans for doing anything particular.

@kazu Thinking of you and sending you strength.

@mamaofami Sorry to hear of Sam's back pain and I hope it can be alleviated or lessened.

@Heartgrove Oh my on that temperature your brother had. Difficult situation. My mother wouldn't eat due to her dementia, and had a PEG tube placed; it was a relatively quick procedure (in her case I gave permission since she was not competent). Prayers for him and your sister. Safe travels tomorrow.

@ger_77 That's another commendable project you're working on.

@kochleffel I'm glad you're feeling better today.

@AncientWanderer Aww, thanks for the pic of DGS!

@Cruising-along Welcome home and congrats to DGSs!

@Copper10-8 Thank you for the moving photos to remind us of all the sacrifices made.

@Sharon in AZ Thanks for the pictures. The walking/food tour sounds great.

@StLouisCruisers Continued prayers for Buddy and Jen.

Prayers for the Care List, Ukraine and victims of violence in the US. Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay safe everyone.

A very interesting morning as I spent it on Ancestry. I'm still using the free site before beginning my 14 day free trial.  I've always heard that my heritage was English, Irish, Scottish, and French.  Today, I found one branch way, way back on my grandmother's side was from Germany, which was a surprise.  Her father's side included a not so distant relative who was said to be Cherokee.  So far, that is the branch of the family that ends sooner than the others.  I traced one side of the family back to 1595.  It's been an interesting under taking so far.

The biggest surprise was a female ancestor who to according Ancestry was born March 4, 1598.  As was the norm, she had many children, with my direct ancestor being in born in 1665.  She died on April 2, 1705, at the age of 107, very rare for those days, and for some one to live in three centuries.  That all sounds pretty unbelievable, and when I finally sign up for the free 14-day trial, I will definitely dig into her life in greater detail.

@grapau27 Graham, and @irishjim Jim, thank you for your kind comments about my pictures.

@AncientWanderer  Maxine, thank you for the pictures, especially the one of your DGS.  He looks so serious.

@Copper10-8  John, thank you for the D-Day pictures.  It is always a moving experience to visit the beaches and the American Cemetery.

@Cruising-along  Carolyn, welcome home.  Thanks for the picture of your DGSs getting their badges.  I was sorry to read that the program is being discontinued.

@ger_77  Gerry, that is a very sweet and caring project making the blankets.

Thank you Lenda, I'm very proud of them. 🙂  I probably didn't write it correctly -- the program isn't being discontinued thank goodness.  But they will stop giving the badges at the 3 levels to save money.  The boys have Geyser and Bison badges, so we're happy.  They wouldn't have been eligible to get the bison badges until they're 12 or 13 otherwise.

The good ship Statendam,  alias Nieuw Statendam, arrived in Portland,  UK, this morning on D Day.  From here, many troops left to invade the beaches of Normandy across the English Channel. Tonight, we cross to Cherbourg as well.

My first time at Portland and the city of Weymouth, which had a free double decker shuttle bus to from the port.

Good Evening Everyone,  classmates reminded me today via FB that today marks my 45th anniversary of graduating from Milton Hershey.  Where did the time go?

We’ve been to Sitka three times and missed it once due to weather.  I enjoy the town and come home with some artwork by Jon Stuart Anderson.

Check with local hospital volunteer groups.  When I was teaching we did Project Linus and teachers and students were crocheting blankets for kids in the hospital.  The goal was to give each child their own blanket.

Thank you for the reminder that today is D-Day, we are fortunate to have visited the beaches and cemeteries on a river cruise a few years ago.

There is a 2-screen drive in in Tulsa, the Admiral Twin, in business since 1951.  In 2010 it caught fire and the whole thing was destroyed.  To my surprise, it was rebuilt and is still going strong.

I've been away a few days, we visited family in Arkansas, which is always a great trip.  This time, we took "the road less taken" on the way home and drove down Arkansas 23 from Huntsville to Ozark; most of the drive is through a National Forest.  We have had a wet spring, and everything looked so green and healthy.  Just gorgeous!

@ger_77, you seem like such a kind and caring soul.  Thanks for being an everyday poster.

Not to say I don't love all of you!  Gerry just touched me today.

Best to all~

Good afternoon,

It's day 10 with Covid, it's almost gone, I think that's what's most notable about it, is how long it takes to get rid of it, much slower than a regular cold.  Yesterday I finally had the strength to finish the laundry and put the luggage away.  Feel so much better now, I hate unfinished chores.

Another cool showery day, but I'm really enjoying it after last summer.

Hope everyone is doing well.
