Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily fleet report.  Not sure what credit card reduction day is, I pay off the balance each month and try to maximize rewards they offer.  Yesterday I cancelled my hotel credit card since it was getting switched to a bank that has a bad reputation.  I’ll pass on today’s meal suggestion, instead we will have leftover pork roast. @dfish best wishes for tomorrow’s procedure.

Happy first full day of spring.

Good morning friends!  Thank you Rich @richwmn for our Fleet Report and Daily for March 21st.  Here it is 32F with a high of 60 expected and mostly sunny today.

For our days we have Credit Card Reduction Day.  That could mean we should cut down on the number of cards we have or maybe cut down on the balance people carry from month to month.  Both are a good thing to think about.  Then Fragrance Day which I rarely wear one.  And World Poetry Day, a worthwhile day of celebration.  I would probably skip the menu suggestion and thank Tina @0106 for her help with the recipes today.  I would say no thanks to the drink and the chardonnay.

Our appreciation to Vanessa @JazzyV for the Care and Celebration lists.  Prayers for everyone on our list and especially to Debbie @dfish and Carol @mamaofami in the lead up to their surgeries. 🙏 Hope Terri @Cruzin Terri has a safe trip to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.  Congratulations to those celebrating happy events, and of course our cruisers.  🥂🚢

The port of the day is Cairns, Queensland, Australia.  Many of us have enjoyed our visits there.  I've only been there once but would enjoy another try at it.  It was posted here twice before on Sept. 16, 2021 and June 26, 2022.  Here are the links to those dates for your convenience posting your photos.  If you've never posted any before and have some feel free to add to the mix today.  Thanks in advance for all who do.

We were able to visit Cairns on October 29, 2017 on Sun Princess.  We enjoyed a walk around town, then I went on a tour of Kuranda, a picturesque village in the rainforest followed by a train ride through the Barron Gorge National Park.

At this point I'd had enough of being inside so I stepped between the two rail cars to take photos out the left and right side.  You had to be very careful though.  This is the view at my feet.  The metal plates can rotate a little so you had to keep your feet out of the way.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVI-uBcFYEY5XCSIJtWdmj3q?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1513563581

At the end we stopped at Freshwater Station, where we got off.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVIGFa-48eSLg8GxotR1IxLP?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1513563683

Back on the bus for our ride back to the ship.  It was a fun day and I'm glad I went.  These days DH doesn't go on every tour with me as he prefers to relax on the ship.  It works for us to split up for a few hours so I can see what's around our ports of call.

Sorry there are so many photos!  Hoping all of you have a Tremendous Tuesday!

Good morning.

It is sunny and 52°F with a high of 60°F expected here in North East England.

Thank you Sandi @StLouisCruisers for setting up today's daily reports.

Both Pauline and my late dad were keen on writing poetry.

I always put on expensive Aftershave with One in a Million being a favourite.

Pauliines favourite perfume is Diorella by Christian Dior.

My second job was working in a bank and I learned quickly that paying your Credit card off in Full every month was the best money saving advice I could give.

I will give today's food and drink a miss.

Sending good wishes to everyone who is unwell to get better and to those currently cruising a fantastic cruise.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Graham.

Sandi @StLouisCruisers.

Thank you so much for all of your interesting photos and descriptions.

I never tire in looking at photos especially places I have never been to.

Graham.

Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, Dixie, Ann, and Debbie/Tina.  Wishing everyone a great Tuesday,  I think I'll pass on the days and the meal but love the Thoreau quote.  I visited Carns way back in 2003 on a land trip but have never cruised there,

Slept well again.  This is hopefully the last really cold (30F) morning of the season.

Good morning.  Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Report.

Cool and cloudy here today with a chance of showers.  We still have some snow on the ground, but it is disappearing. 🙂

An interesting collection of days.  Paying of credit card debt is extremely important.  DH and I don't wear fragrances.  I enjoy poetry.

Love the quote.

I'll pass on the meal and the drink, and hope the wine is tasty.

Thanks for the pictures of today's port.  It's always so nice to look at pictures Dailyites post.

Prayers for everyone.  Cheers for all the celebrations.  I'm glad @rafinmd had a good sleep.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Stay safe.

I also wondered whether the first of the special days referred to paying down balances or to reducing the number of accounts. I have inadvertently done the latter through letting accounts be closed for lack of activity.

No on crab-topped anything, and I'll skip the cocktail, but I'll be ready for the wine at 5:00 p.m. I still haven't been to Australia.

Good morning everyone on this first full say in Spring.  We pay our credit card balances every month.  I wear cologne most every day.  I appreciate good poetry but admit to not reading it regularly.  Interesting quote.  The meal suggestion sounds nice and light.  I think I’ll pass on the drink.  I haven’t been to today’s port but I am enjoying the photos, looks nice and sunny.  Prayers for everyone on our prayer list, good luck @dfish with your surgery tomorrow and for @rafinmd’s continuing recovery.  Cheers to everyone celebrating happy events today!

Thank you for getting us started, Sandi! Rich, thank you for making sure this thread would continue while you are touring the World!   A bit warmer here this morning, but that pesky wind is already blowing. Yesterday’s wind was brutal & weird. At my end of the street, it was blowing from the East. But at the other end of the street it was blowing from the North.🤔 I just know I was happy it was sunny out.

Vanessa, thank you for keeping track of all the good and worrisome happenings.

Just chores, Bindi walks and one gym class. I need to finish my taxes. The worst part is done, but I need to do a final review before submitting them.

Mimi Chardonnay, Washington State

I used the 2018 vintage info, though it appears that the 2021 vintage has just been released. All released vintages share the same very good - excellent ratings, so you might be safe buying the 2021 vintage. Online prices for the 2018 vintage start at $16.99.

Winemaker Notes

Discover Mimi, a delicious Chardonnay sourced from the Horse Heaven Hills, including Chateau Ste. Michelle’s Canoe Ridge Estate Vineyard. Mimi is crafted in a lightly oaked, fresh style which allows the bright, elegant fruit to shine through.

Pair with salmon, crab cakes, and poultry.

W&S90 Wine & Spirits
This is crisp and lemony, with a forward juicy-apple note that’s light, fresh and firm. With its nervy acidity, it’s suitable for chilling down to serve as an aperitif.
WE90 Wine Enthusiast
Mimi Chardonnay (Horse Heaven Hills). Cream, spice and roasted squash aromas draw you into the glass. The palate is graceful and elegant, with impeccable balance to the stone fruit and pumpkin flavors throughout, along with a pretty sense of texture. A lingering finish caps it off. It walks the tightrope perfectly.

Seems like many of the Daily readers don’t like crab.  Perhaps it is because you’ve never had freshly steamed Maryland blue crabs.  Crab Topped Tomato Slices are one of my favorite summertime meals.  First, I’m going to explain how we do it in Maryland.  First, get a bushel of MD blue crabs.

XKKUb0NtF8eTsnfRD0nxApY42l6LJMd83EcH2Ddmw-x_dWG1gjF3s740EL8U_mjGB60oVZpcSi6sLnqYjK4ScBdXadNAqXp79hKf7rt4fjQwfE0T3fVNvNvYRNjneycT5Ndwe0b-IaF4zI7yUWsimZw

Steam them with Old Bay and then dump them on a newspaper covered table. Slice some MD tomatoes.  Pick crabs.   Wipe tomato slice across the old bay seasoning on top the crab shell.  Place backfin on top of the tomato slice.  ENJOY!

I went down a rabbit hole looking for recipes.  Anyone who has eaten fresh crab, knows that you don’t want to overwhelm the flavor.  Last year, I paid $36 a pound for fresh local blue crab meat. I like recipes like this one I copied from my local garden club cookbook.

Plain & Simple

Ingredients:

1 lb. backfin lump crabmeat

2 lemons or limes

4-8 leaves endive or romaine lettuce

parsley for garnish

Instructions:

Pick through crab and remove shells.

Place one or two lettuce leaves on each plate.

Gently mound crab lumps on endive.

Squeeze citrus juice over top of crab.

Serve with fresh, sliced tomatoes.

This recipe looks good to me, the simple addition of fresh corn will allow the crab meat to shine.

This recipe is the first one that popped up on Google, definitely not my favorite.  The chef says he takes this treat camping. It uses canned lump crab meat and is heated over the campfire. Crab-Topped Tomato Slices Recipe

Good morning all and best wishes.  Thanks to all who are such an integral part in keeping this thread alive and interesting.  Prayers for all in need.  Glad to read that Roy’s health seems to be improving.

I have been home for two days and still doing laundry.  It sure seems to be taking me longer to pack and unpack these days.  I know I pack too much but always take things that I “think” I might need.  DH leg injury is healing from his fall and DD did a good job taking care of him and the house.  DS came by to bring food for all.  My kids are great.

Prayers for our country and really the world.  Such an unsettling time.  But prayers can work wonders.

Have a great day.  Katherine

Thanks for our Tuesday Daily, Sandi.

Nice collection of days.  From the tone of the posts so far, I don’t think most our our Daily-ites have to celebrate credit card reduction day.  It’s to encourage people who carry outstanding balances on their credit cards to reduce them and their interest charges.

DH & I enjoyed fragrances for a long time but with so many ‘fragrance free’ places, we stopped wearing fragrance a few years ago.

I like the Thoreau quote and @0106 you are not alone in your love of crab. 😉 Today’s meal sounds great.  It just so happens I have some left over crab salad from the other day so I will enjoy.  Thanks for the recipes.

@dfishDebbie, best of luck with your surgery tomorrow and for success and a very quick recovery 🙏🏻

@Lady Hudsonglad to hear that your DH is recovering 👍

@Vict0riannhoping Pat has good results today 🤞

Yesterday my friend got a van load of stuff from the basement to take to Restore (Habitat for Humanity’s store), bless him.

Today I need to measure my hanging baskets.  I need liners for them and some begonias are going to have to be planted soon 😬. Landscape fabric or coco coir again?   I’m tired of the cost of the coco and most only last one season - the birds like them too much 😆 Order for delivery or take the chance I will be approved to drive and can shop on my own?  Decisions, decision, decisions.

Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and a toast 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list.

Good morning from beautiful Grand Cayman aboard the NS.

Water still calm with a partly cloudy sky.

The concierge is picking us up in about 20 minutes and taking us downstairs to be on the first tender. I know, its rough, but someone has to do it. 😀

Suzi will be shopping and I will get some Cuban coffee and cigars from LA Casa Del Habano. Will also shop at Guy Harvey's for nice shirt.

Will check in later and I hope everyone has a wonderful day! 😊

Good morning, everyone!

I think I'll take the meal, the drink, and the wine!   I love crab and @0106 Tina's recipe sounds good to me.  I'd resort to the canned stuff if I was camping.   I could have used the drink and wine yesterday.  Spectrum decided I didn't need my email account and terminated it.  No notice or anything like that.  It worked just fine on Saturday and wouldn't work at all on Sunday.  Just having it in Outlook was bogging things down.  When I moved and transferred the account from Ohio to Michigan they told me I could keep my email.  Turns out that wasn't the case.  It is an Ohio email and has a different footprint than Michigan.  So, I spent yesterday changing my email on all my accounts and notifying people of the change.  What fun!

I don't find out what time my surgery is until later this afternoon.  This hospital makes  you wait until the afternoon before surgery.  Makes it so easy to arrange rides, etc.  I have a provision in my health insurance for 24 rides to medical appointments, but that has to be arranged 48 hours in advance.  The hospital says they couldn't possibly figure out any sooner when surgery would be.  Some might get cancelled and then, horror of all horrors, they would have to call people on the phone. We wouldn't want them to have to talk to people.  I'm hoping for the second slot so we don't have to be there at 5:00 am.

Today I am going to try to finish up my taxes.  Yes, I'll need the drink and the wine.  The first time through the Michigan tax return said I owed $1084.  Really?  I only received one pension payment in Michigan in 2022.  Second time around it said I was getting $21 back.  I'll take that, but don't understand how that was figured.  They have this subtraction thing where you subtract a portion of your pension from the amount brought over from the Federal return.  But, that amount is incorrect for Michigan.  And, I'm not allowed to subtract enough to get to the right figure.  I need to call someone.

I'm hoping the rest of you have a less frustrating day than I will have.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Since Covid, we've used our credit card almost exclusively, and paid it off every month.  I don't remember the last time I used my favourite fragrance; I think I'll have to start spraying it on a cotton ball and leaving it in various rooms around the house, just to use it up.  I've never been a great fan of poetry.

I had to share this with you - I'm sure most of you have heard of crop circles, those beautiful designs made in fields around the world.  Well, here on the "frozen tundra" we have our own version, made in the snow, by the bunny rabbits.  Here's what we woke up to on our front "lawn" yesterday morning:

BunnyTrails.thumb.jpg.45d4540322156b2b8b641b56784fc87b.jpg

I did something yesterday that I'm not sure a lot of people think of - if you are part of the Nexus or Trusted Traveler programs and get a new passport, be sure to log into your account to update your passport number.  I don't know what made me think of it yesterday, but checking the FAQ's on the website made me realize it was something I needed to do.  We are now up to date whenever we travel - or at least for the next 10 years.  LOL

Happy first full day of spring!

spring.jpg.8e04d9cbcafaa757f71eb26a76aac478.jpg

I'd like today's menu suggestion and will keep it for one of those hot days in summer when I really don't feel like cooking; I think it would make a nice light meal.  I've got a couple of chicken breasts thawing that will be made into chicken strips, cooked in the air fryer, and now that Romaine lettuce is no longer needing a bank loan to purchase, will be served along with a big Caesar salad.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, especially those with medical appointments and surgeries upcoming.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

A quick note on crab. When I was a wee little lad (as if) my Dad wanted us to try crab. Unfortunately it was canned crab and we didn't know how to prepare it so it was not good. For that reason I stayed away from crab for a very long time.

About 25 years ago I helped a friend move to the Georgia coast. The next morning we were out on a river crabbing and that was our lunch. That was great! It was fresh and prepared properly so it was wonderful.  Would love to be able to do that again.

Good morning on a bright sunshiny day that will go up to 60. Everyone here is a crab fan so today’s recipe would be a big hit. I always thought the crabs we got out on Montauk were great until I had the Maryland Blue crabs.Off the charts!

We have not been to the port but it looks like such a beautiful place. Thank you Sandi for the pictures and commentary @StLouisCruisers.

I admire poetry but can’t say I do so often. It is always a good idea to lower credit card debt, especially with the banking situations we observe now.

Thanks to all who keep our Daily going.

Good morning all. I read the whole thread yesterday and got interrupted and forgot to post. This morning I am here with my coffee and checking in. It was so cold yesterday I wanted to go back to the cruise ship and go somewhere warm but today promises to be warmer and Wednesday might be in the 80s.I got a notice this morning that my luggage will be here early like tomorrow. If that happens it would be a real surprise as when it went it took 16 days and was broken when it did arrive. Maybe that means they will redeem themselves with good service this time. It is nice to be home but my to do list is very long. Today I will attempt to work on the lawn. Prayers for all.
