grapau27 Posted May 7, 2023 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Thank you for posting today's daily reports Sandi on behalf of Rich and all Dailyites. It is currently 54°F and cloudy here. Laughter does us a lot of good and the funny memes on here are a good start to the day. Tourism is a good day to celebrate. Funny quote today. Today's food is nice. We were in Weymouth just over a week ago while on our MSC cruise. Prayers 🙏 for better health for all on the care list. I hope everyone has a great day. 16

StLouisCruisers Posted May 7, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Good Morning friends! It's a nice (dark) morning here in Georgia. 57F currently with a high of 82 and mostly sunny skies expected. Hope the weather is nice where you are. Thank you Rich @richwmn for handling the Daily and Fleet Report. The days we will celebrate today are National Tourism Day, Homebrew Day, and World Laughter Day. Let's start with the last one. Boy, do we need laughter more than ever these days! We should try not to let everything get to us and have a good laugh. That's why we enjoy our memes so much and I'm looking forward to today's bunch. Next, tourism is an important part of the world's economy, and I know as cruisers we like to see the world and do our part for tourism. And how about our home brewers? I will salute my next door neighbor Ray who has his own brewery set up in his basement. I saw it once, and DH has tasted his brews several times. He does a good job of it. For a living he was a pharmacist so he is talented at following "recipes". Next we want to thank Rich for his Day in History addition. Very interesting how far back the concept of integrated circuits goes. So 1952 is the birth of the modern computer. 🖥️ I know I've heard Jerry Seinfeld's quote before and strange how that works out, isn't it? 😁 The menu suggestion today is Pesto Shrimp and Artichoke Linguine. Sounds like an interesting concoction so thanks in advance to Debbie @dfish for her recipes. Hope you enjoyed the soccer game you went to yesterday Debbie. Did she win? Next up, the Hot Buttery Barrel drink. This ought to be an interesting one. The wine is a Pinot Noir so a red. 🍷 Thank you Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for any input on these two. Prayers will be said by many for those still on the Care list. So far everyone seems to be recovering okay from their recent surgeries. (I haven't finished reading the posts from last night after I signed off on CC). Hope all are feeling just a bit better today. 🙏 Our cruising list will have many disembarking in the next week but we still have some cruisers out there. I hope Annie @marshhawk, Chuck and BFF are successful in embarking in Vancouver in less than 2 hours. Actually, let's hope it takes less than 1 hour while we're wishing for something! Vanessa @JazzyV will disembark the Celebrity Apex today and continue on her adventures in Germany so I wish her a great time seeing the sights! 🥂🎉 The port of the day is Weymouth, Isle of Portland, England, a recent stop on Rich's world cruise. And as Graham @grapau27 said he was just there too. I know I certainly enjoyed visiting there! We have seen that port listed here by Rich on April 11, 2022 and July 28, 2022 so I will copy and paste the links here for your convenience. Then I will post my photos for everyone. Hope you enjoy them! My photos for Weymouth, Isle of Portland. We stopped at Portland, England on the Prinsendam's "Irish, Scottish and European River Cruise" on Sept. 13, 2018. What a lovely cruise that was! The skies were clear as we headed off the ship and boarded a bus provided for us to get over to Weymouth. We were dropped off a couple blocks from the small harbor. We passed this nice little restaurant/bar while we walked. First sight of the harbor which was very scenic. We were told this harbor was used in filming the movie "Dunkirk" which I've never seen. Behind you when looking at the harbor is this lovely downtown area. Ah, I see a fish and chips restaurant right there. We noticed a bridge to walk (or drive) across to get to the opposite shore so headed there. Here's a photo I took of a sign showing it raising, not knowing I'd see it raising later as we left. While standing on the bridge We headed down this main street, and went in a grocery store to pick up something. Toothpaste? We had been cruising a month and a half already on two cruise lines so I was getting low. At the end of the main street was the beach! Looks like saddles on these donkeys. People ride them? Perhaps only children. Good to see the man taking care of their hooves. A view as we returned back to the bridge. This area at the harbor was my favorite part of town. You can see the clouds were rolling in. All of a sudden I could see the drawbridge raising back where we had recently crossed. Zooming in We walked back to the bus pick up point for our ride back to Portland and the Prinsendam. Scenery as we neared the ship, photos taken through the bus windows of course so not the best. And a blurry photo showing the Prinsendam We drove right by Portland Castle. When time to leave we were treated to a band and some cannon fire. The view out my window as we sailed away. Shortly thereafter these shores with the sun's rays shining on them. An enjoyable stop on our Prinsendam cruise. DGS Ren has a big game at 5 pm Eastern time against a local rival, the Wolves so I hope the Jaguars are successful today. No offense Wolves! In fact a few of Ren's friends are on the Wolves team! Anyway hope everyone here has a great Sunday! 22

RedneckBob Posted May 7, 2023 #8 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Thanks for the Fleet Update and General Info SLC. Today is National Laughter Day. I only post a few cartoons on this thread cause I prefer real life experiences and how they can make you laugh. Hear’s my latest one. This past Friday the Misses had an appointment at the Hospital at 10:50 am. At 11:00 am one of the hospital staff, Eric, came out and told the Misses, “I am a little behind”, for which the Misses replied, “You behind looks fine, Eric”. As far a Brew Day, just give me a Bud…no, a Miller Lite! 😳 5

The other classic was in Rome. We were pushing her in a wheelchair near the Vatican. The traffic on the road in front of the Vatican was packed when the Pope appeared. A lorry driver waved us across and Pauline's mam jumped out of her chair and ran across the road to see the Pope. We held our hands up to the sky and shouted It's a miracle. The lorry driver probably gets free drinks for the rest of his life when he tells this story. 5

Rare puppycanducruise Posted May 7, 2023 #12 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Good morning. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Report. We all need a good laugh, and this is a great place to get it. Tourism is very important to the world's economy. No homebrew here. Amusing quote from a very funny man. I'll pass on the meal, not sure about the drink and hope the wine is tasty. Thanks for the pictures of today's port, we hope to be there next month. We've got rain in the forecast for today. Yesterday was a lovely day, I even hung the laundry on the line outside to dry. Prayers for everyone. Have a great day.
Rare kazu Posted May 7, 2023 #13 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Thanks for our Sunday Daily, Sandi. Good collection of days. DH was a home brewer at times - but wine, not beer 😉 All that equipment has been given away now. I’ll celebrate tourism as a traveller and what it does for the economies of many places. Laughter is the best medicine when you can laugh. Love that quote of Jerry Seinfeld’s. He was often bang on. The meal sounds interesting - I’ll see what @dfish offers. Loved visiting Portland and look forward to going back. Last time we explored the Jurassic Coast on a private our with CC friends - lovely ruins - landscapes, you name it. This time I think will be more laid back with time in Portland and Weymouth. Looks like a nice day is coming 🤞 So much to do and so restricted right now until the surgery is completely healed. (Blew it last night and it cracked 😔 ) I’ll just see what I can manage safely and the rest will have to wait ‘sigh’. Special prayers for healing for Pat @Vict0riann and @cruzn single& a good prognosis for @bennybear 🙏🏻 Prayers for so many people in Alberta under evacuation orders due to the wildfires and for the newest shooting victims and their families (will this madness never stop?) 🙏🏻 Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and cheers 🥂 to those Celebrating. Have a good Sunday everyone. 23 2
mamaofami Posted May 7, 2023 #14 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Good morning everyone. Yesterday we uncovered our patio furniture in advance of today’s high 70 degrees. Looks like summer might be finally here. The patio needs to be power washed and we’re good to go. Yesterday I turned on the news to see if there was a daily shooting and yes, in a mall. It’s become an everyday occurrence and we start to expect it. Something has to be done to stop the violence. Stay safe everyone, Carol
Rare Crazy For Cats Posted May 7, 2023 #15 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily fleet report. It's another beautiful day here and eventually I hope to get some yard work done. I'll pass on today's meal suggestion instead I think we are going out for dinner. Yesterday we got some tomato and pepper plants along with dome flowers and catnip. The upstairs deck garden is mostly done. Today I'm planning on packing for this week's work roadtrip, the first since the shutdown, and start packing for the Zaandam. I hope everyone has a good day today. 23

aliaschief Posted May 7, 2023 #17 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Good morning! Got about 5 minutes before we go on duty. Someone is mumbling in her bedroom. I told our daughter yesterday while doing Face Time that we won’t take this task on for their twentieth anniversary!😁 Did manage to watch the Kentucky Derby. Always hard finding TV channels at our children’s houses. None have cable or dish but various internet services. Probably should look into options for us and save money. Our Cox Cable tv and internet cost are ridiculous. Got to go have a great day and thanks Sandi for the early jumpstart in getting the Daily going. For all our recent surgeries and ails!🙏 Bruce 8
cat shepard Posted May 7, 2023 #18 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Thank you Sandi & Rich for bringing us today’s R & D. Our lovely mornings have returned after bouts of rain yesterday. Last night’s dinner with a friend was great. Eva, thank you for taking on our Cares & Celebrations lists. Not an easy task. This morning I am joining friends for a long delayed birthday brunch. Back in February we had reservations at the birthday girl’s choice for brunch. We arrived to find the new owners had not notified us that they closed for renovations. But we are hearing good things about their offerings, so we are going this morning. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! ********* Greystone Pinot Noir Waipara Valley Thomas Brothers' 2020 Another fairly elusive New Zealand wine, though I did find one online distributor that ships worldwide. I can just imagine the shipping costs from Singapore! The price of the wine is outside of my budget even without the shipping costs, but it sounds lovely. It can be yours for $67.73 + shipping. Cameron Douglas Notes So many scents to process and enjoy about this wine from its youthful core of dark red berry fruits to the complexities of soil and barrel spices to the the harmonious highlights of dried herbs and baked nuts. On the palate a taut, dry and complex wine with flavours of ripe and tart berries, layers of tannins and acidity to bind all together. A wine that that will benefit from cellar time, but is quite drinkable today as well. I just feel that you will enjy this example better if it were aged more to showcase the links between fruit and site, winemaking and natural complexity. Therefore best drinking should be from 2026 through 2036 - perhaps longer. 97 Points Ourstanding 18 5

dfish Posted May 7, 2023 #20 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Good morning, everyone! I woke up this morning to a loud clap of thunder. I knew I wasn't going back to sleep, so up I got. Rain continues through the morning here in mid-Michigan, but the afternoon looks clear. River's soccer game was a lot of fun yesterday. She was so excited to see us. She is currently living with her other Grandma and I hope that arrangement stays as it is a much more stable environment for her. She is playing on a soccer team with her two aunts, twins, who are six months younger than she is. As they are only six, this is introductory soccer. They don't keep score and the "quarters" are only 5 minutes long. I think besides some basic soccer skills they are concentrating on what it means to be a team and sportsmanship. It did make for a long day as we had to leave by 6:30 am to meet them for breakfast and then head to the field. On the way home we stopped at a greenhouse and bought some hanging plants for the front porch. We've been having a lot of shrimp lately here on the Daily. Today's sounds pretty good to me. I love artichokes and pesto, so sure, let's put them together. This first recipe is not for those watching calories or carbs. Well, this dish is probably not for those watching calories or carbs. https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/pesto-shrimp-and-artichoke-linguine/ But it sure looks good, doesn't it? This next one is very similar. I bet you could make the sauce up in advance and just add the shrimp and cook the linguine when you want it. I wonder how it would go with spaghetti squash instead of linguine? https://www.homejobsbymom.com/best-pesto-pasta-recipe-creamy-shrimp-artichoke-pasta/ This one is a little different and got my attention. https://www.urbanfoodiekitchen.com/lemon-artichoke-pesto-shrimp-linguine/ If you're saturated with shrimp, you could always do this with chicken. Wishing you all a wonderful day! 16
superoma Posted May 7, 2023 #21 Share Posted May 7, 2023 (edited) Well after a lovely sunny day yesterday we have rain forecast for today. But the rest of the week promises sunshine . At least the temps will be in the high 60s reaching 70 by weeks end. i missed adding the Alberta wildfire evacuations. At least 25000 have been told to evacuate because of fires pretty much all over the province. Very early in the season. and the mass shootings break my heart. on another note @NextOnei forgot to take pictures of the Rouladen, sorry, but they turn out so well in the slow cooker. My company enjoyed them very much Edited May 7, 2023 by superoma Add 17
Mtn2Sea Posted May 7, 2023 #22 Share Posted May 7, 2023 We stopped in Portland last month while aboard the Zuiderdam. We took a ship’s excursion to Stonehenge and the city of Salisbury. The bus ride of approximately 90 minutes to Stonehenge was well worth it. The Cathedral in Salisbury was wonderful. We were also able to see one of the last four original copies of the Magna Carta (20 were originally made in 1215) at the Cathedral. 23
Rare ottahand7 Posted May 7, 2023 #23 Share Posted May 7, 2023 Good morning, we had noisy thunderstorms all night long. It is supposed to clear up later today. Sandi and Rich thanks for the Daily Reports. Thank you @summer slope, @dfish and @cat shepard for researching these comestibles for us, some days more obscure than others. I will pass on all today, I will drink my bourbon minus butter. Prayers for all on our care list and now another mass shooting in Texas, when will this stop? Prayers for the people in Ukraine. @marshhawk Bon Voyage in spirit, I know you are going "dark" for your cruise but BV nonetheless. We are soon to begin our summer tourism season. As soon as we can get a clear report on the logging road to our cabin we plan on leaving May 15 or 16. Our neighbor always is in there by May 15 for the opening of Walleye season. I have some more yard work to do and our GC plant sale next Saturday. Have a great Sunday! Nancy
