Just arriving In Bilbao, Spain. Our last port in Spain. Next port will be Bordeaux, France and we get to stay on.

Bilbao with its high rocky cliffs is a pretty sail in. We have a private wine tour today and will have a ten PM departure. Tonight is White Night Party and BBQ around the pool. Lot’s of fun and majority of guest wear white.

Devon one of our crew singers put on a fantastic performance with evening of tribute to Michael Buble last night.
Thanks for the reports. Bruce

Good morning from a sunny 70°F back garden in North East England.

Thank you for today's daily reports.

Smiling is powerful in many ways mainly to be friendly to someone.

Nature can be amazing and we saw it at its best last week on our cruise where the ice age had created the Norwegian Fjords.

I am always myself but I see lots of people who put an act on and are not being their selves.

Today's food and wine sounds nice.

Good wishes offered to all of my Dailyite friends whether you are unwell are cruising.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy day.

Graham.

Good morning.  Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Report.

We've got a cloudy morning, and it should warm up to 20°C (68°F) this afternoon with a chance of showers.  I'll head out for my morning walk soon.

I love nature photography.  Prunes are okay.  I believe in the power of smiles. 🙂

Love the quote.

Not sure about the meal, I'm not a big fan of rosemary, so I'll leave that out.

I hope the drink and wine are tasty.

We were in Lerwick many years ago on a cruise on the Ryndam, I'll see if I can find pictures.

Prayers for everyone.  Cheers for all the celebrations.

Have a wonderful day.

Good morning everyone.  Thank-you for the daily report.  I really enjoy nature photography and oddly, prunes!  Can’t beat smile power day, smiles are free and cause so much happiness.  The quote is such good advice.  The meal suggestion sounds pretty tasty.  Not sure what the drink is so I’ll wait and see.  I haven’t been to today’s port. Prayers for everyone on our list.  Cheers to all of you who are celebrating happy events today.

Good morning friends!  Things are calm here right now and 66F, but we have at least a 50% chance of rain all day long and a high of 78.  I hope the weather is nice wherever you are.😎  Thank you Rich @richwmn for the Daily and Fleet Report this morning. I always appreciate nature photographs, like prunes, and love to see a smile!  I like the quote, and I believe the meal suggestion will be popular.  No idea what a journeyman cocktail is.  I'll appreciate an explanation of the wine so thanks to Ann @cat shepard for that.  Many thanks also to Debbie @dfish and Dixie @summer slope for the recipes and drink mixing instructions.

Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for the Care and Celebration lists today.  I'm going to be contacting my friend about her brother Mark's bile numbers.  Hopefully they are down and he can start that new chemo treatment.  Thank you for including him.  Also, my DB says he is feeling better lately with his new meds (provided by a grant) except for the predicted side effects.  Thank you for including him too.  Prayers for everyone here in need of them.🙏  Congratulations to everyone on our Celebration list or experiencing happy events this week!🥂  And hurray for the cruisers!🚢  Congrats also to the winners of the Congressional baseball game last night.

Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Scotland was our port of the day on Sept. 20, 2021 and Nov. 1, 2022.  Links to those dates are below.  I have been there twice - in 2015 on Caribbean Princess and in 2022 on Island Princess.  My photos from 2015 are included after the links.

Thanks for our Thursday Daily, Rich.

I’ll happily celebrate 2 of the days - nature photography & smile power day.  I’ll pass on the prunes.  LOL.

Love the Emmerson quote - so true.  The meal sounds good.  I’ll wait on the wine description.  We have been to Scotland but not today’s port.  A truly historic day with the signing of the Magna Carta.

IMG_0738.jpeg.40b8f5c4c685f7ad768250701c4e88da.jpeg

the rain yesterday was so light, I ended up watering the planters.   Ivan was happy though - he despises rain.  And, of course once I did that, it rained last night.  LOL. More rain in the forecast today so we’ll see what it brings.

I did get a couple of ports figured out for 2024, put the finishing touches on them .and just waiting to hear back from the guides 👍

IMG_0735.thumb.jpeg.8dd02995165c3039538c6a95333cb585.jpeg

My itinerary depends on the weather.   Deck umbrellas are finally on sale so I will head out today/tomorrow to replace the one that got broken in the wind storm.  Can’t believe we had 2 extras and now I am missing one 😬

IMG_0737.jpeg.112467871369dda354a2648f5d1c7116.jpeg

Prayers for those on the Care list & for those that need them and cheers 🥂 to those celebrating.

Some of my friends are good nature photographers. I'd be happy with the rosemary salmon and I think I have the ingredients. Don't know what the cocktail is, and while I have high regard for New Zealand wines, few are obtainable here. So I'll nominate a Finger Lakes alternative, Hazlitt 1852 Cabernet Sauvignon 2020.

I haven't been to Lerwick, but I've been interested in visiting there ever since reading the Ann Cleeves novels and seeing the TV series. I've also read about the Shetland Bus:

The Shetland Bus (Norwegian Bokmål: Shetlandsbussene, def. pl.) was the nickname of a clandestine special operations group that made a permanent link between Mainland Shetland in Scotland and German-occupied Norway from 1941 until the surrender of *** Germany on 8 May 1945. From mid-1942, the group's official name was the Norwegian Naval Independent Unit (NNIU). In October 1943, it became an official part of the Royal Norwegian Navy and was renamed the Royal Norwegian Naval Special Unit (RNNSU). The unit was operated initially by a large number of small fishing boats and later augmented by three fast and well-armed submarine chasers – Vigra, Hessa and Hitra.

Crossings were mostly made during the winter under the cover of darkness. This meant the crews and passengers had to endure very heavy North Sea conditions, with no lights and constant risk of discovery by German aircraft or patrol boats. There was also the possibility of being captured whilst carrying out the mission on the Norwegian coast.

Operations of the Shetland Bus began at Lerwick, but moved to Scalloway where the memorial is.

Good Morning, thanks for today’s report.  Last night we had a storm come through with heavy rain.  This morning the humidity is gone and it’s a beautiful day.  It’s going to be another busy work day. I’m looking forward to a three day weekend. I hope everyone has a good day today.

We were back in Lerwick on June 9, 2022 on Island Princess.  We walked around the town a bit then got instructions on how to get to Tesco to do a little shopping.  00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVIDyCEFzH4ovRqXlXzH6dcqVZV51t4MhjbEwRNyGscOgg?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1656971604

Thank you Graham.  I bet you'd enjoy seeing some of my cruise photo books then.  It really helps to keep the memories fresh.

Good morning everyone.   Our warm, dry weather has ended.  Windy and 50s today.  No sun either.

Thanks for the Fleet and Daily reports @richwmn.   I love to do wildlife photography but I forgot my good cameras so everything will be from my cell phone this summer.   We had a deer in the yard but she left quickly when I stepped outside.   That reminded me to spray deer spray in my hostas, daylilies and iris buds.  A good day always has a lot of smiles and I eat prunes occasionally, the dried are much better.   I will pass on the salmon, the fruity cocktail and another rare wine.   @StLouisCruisers thanks for the lovely photos of the Shetland Islands.

@JazzyV thank you for our Cares and Celebrations reports. Prayers for everyone on our lists and the people of Ukraine.

Two photos from yesterday.   I was only going to post the butterflies on my Michigan Butterflies Facebook page but since it is wildlife photography day I will share.  Two mating Canadian Swallowtails and an Orange Rumped Bumblebee.  Have a wonderful day!  Nancy

Thank you for the F&D report and for the pictures of Lerwick.  We will be there in August of 2024 on the Rotterdam.  Like @kochleffel I am also a fan of the Ann Cleeves novels,  particularly the ones that feature Vera Stanhope.  If you are not a reader, the TV series is good too, beautiful scenery.  Any recommendations for a private tour in Lerwick?

I’ll celebrate Nature Photography Day with another picture from Assateague.

I taught my English students about Shakespearean insults.  Some of them were quite bawdy.  In honor of prune dayIMG_7555.jpeg.622ee6560c4a68392a9255492446d348.jpeg

Said Falstaff trying to swindle the Hostess at the Inn from Henry IV.  What do you think he meant by “stewed prune”?

Positive thought to those who need them.  Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.

Good morning. I have traveled to Shetland In my dreams after reading the books and watching the TV series as @kochleffelPaul stated. We just started to re watch this series on Britbox and the scenery is amazing.

It is a nice day here with temps going to 77 or so later. We had quite the thunderstorm yesterday afternoon while driving home from the medical offices.

The recipe sounds interesting but today we are making bean and cheese enchiladas as per DH request. DD has increased her supply of baked goods for her dads dining pleasure. We told him the other day that he could request anything, even the usually verboten items for the next week. The teenager is more inclined towards vegetarian meals lately so he was told to not complain by his mom. We were really silly last night at the dinner table thinking of every possible dish DH could have but at least we were all laughing.

Have a great day everyone!

Thanks for the Fleet Update and General Info from all the contributors.

National Prune Day. Isn’t this celebrated every day on a HAL ship! 😀

When you play the slot machines on a HAL ship you hit the jackpot when three prunes show on the pay line.

Also National Nature Photography Day. Just took a nature photo in my house. I have heard of pheasant under glass but…..

Thank you for today’s R & D, Rich! It is a spectacular morning here. 72 with a cool breeze. Last night’s rain seems to have eliminated the humidity - for now.

Vanessa - thank you for keeping up with us! An early Zumba class, Bindi walks, chores and pool time will keep me busy.

Hans Herzog Estate Marlborough Spirit of Marlborough 2016

This New Zealand red blend sounds wonderful. I even found one distributor in “The States” who would ship to me for $60 + shipping. It is slightly outside of my budget, so if I could find it on special locally - I would love to try it.

Distributor notes

This noble blend shows off with aromas of juicy dark plums, black fruits and berries. Subtle spices, herbs and dark chocolate add to the complexity. Concentration and opulence aplenty followed by a sensuous, lingering long finish. Enjoy this stately flagship wine at its full potential alike a “Grand Cru” Pomerol with many years of bottle ageing.

95 points | Bob Campbell, TheRealReview.com

An equal blend of merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. A little bottle age has produced a mellow texture and good flavour integration. Quite a mellow, savoury red with red and black fruit flavours together with hedgerow, charcuterie and spicy oak. An elegant wine with cellaring potential. Drink: 2022-2025

Good morning, everyone!

It is kind of dark out and threatening rain, so we might not get our morning walk in today.  That's ok, I have a walking route in the house and I can still get my steps in.  We will concentrate our efforts inside the house today.   I am getting my Covid booster today.  I should have full, robust immunity in time for our cruise at the end of July.

Tonight's meal is a great one.  We are having salmon on the grill tonight so it wouldn't be hard to throw on some vegetables to go with it.  Salmon and veggies are healthy and low carb, so dive in!   This first one is a sheet pan recipe and uses asparagus and red bell pepper, but feel free to use the vegetable of your choice!   https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/rosemary-salmon-and-veggies/

IF you decide to do the salmon on the grill, we roasted yellow summer squash on the grill the other night.  It was wonderful and we both wished we had more.

This next recipe includes some Yukon Gold potatoes.  They can be roasted on the same pan with the salmon and veggies.  If you have a vegetable basket for the grill, you can do them there as well.  https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/280094/rosemary-roasted-salmon-with-asparagus-potatoes/

This last one shows you can use the vegetable of your choice, including carrots, to make the meal one you want to have over and over.   https://www.nourish-and-fete.com/rosemary-garlic-sheet-pan-salmon/

I hope this finds everyone doing as well as circumstances allow.   Wishing you all a wonderful day.
