Rare puppycanducruise Posted August 23, 2023 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2023 Good morning. Thanks for the Report. Thunder and lightning and rain today. Bertie and I got wet on our walk. I like daffodils, I will hug my sweetheart but I won't ride the wind. Interesting quote. I'll pass on the meal but I'll try the drink and wine. Prayers for everyone on the Care List. @Vict0riann Happy Birthday! 🎂 @HAL4NOW Bon Voyage! I hope everyone has a happy hump day! 26
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted August 23, 2023 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2023 Good morning from a still dark central Texas. This will be brief since we have to leave for Dallas in about an hour. I'll read the Daily when we get back. The port of the day for Wednesday, August 23, is Qaqortoq. It has been the port of the day twice before, on March 2, 2021 and September 23, 2022. Thanks to Sandi, @StLouisCruisers, I was able to find the link to the first time we had Qaqortoq as the port of the day, since a search did not go back that far. I used the link in her post from last year to get to this link. Lenda ger_77, Cr 24
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted August 23, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2023 We have been lucky enough to visit Qaqortoq twice, once in 2009 on the Tahitian Princess and again in 2017 on the Prinsendam. The weather the first time was cold and rainy, but in 2017, we had a nice sunny day. These are some of the pictures I posted before, but I've added a few more today. This is one of the buildings as it was in 2009. And the same building in 2017. We were looking forward to seeing that car again. This is the building in 2009 from the front and inside. In 2017, it was still a restaurant, but it had changed names and was not open when we walked by. A stone statue A few of the carvings cut into some of the rock around town. An overview of the town. Like most towns in Greenland, the houses are brightly painted. Lenda 28
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted August 23, 2023 #6 Share Posted August 23, 2023 There are two churches in Qaqortoq. These first pictures are of the modern church on the hill near the hotel. In the first picture, the church is the large white building in the upper right hand corner. This is the older, smaller church down nearer the water. Some pictures from our walk around town Lenda 27

Mr. Boston Posted August 23, 2023 #9 Share Posted August 23, 2023 (edited) Good morning everyone. Thanks for the daily report, recipes and lists. Ride like the wind day sounds fun. Unfortunately, daffodils are long gone at this time of year. I’ll have to hug my sweetheart today. Not sure what the context of the quote is but at face value I don’t agree with it at all. The meal and drink suggestions sound tasty. I have not been to the port of the day. Prayers for everyone on the prayer list today. Happy birthday @Vict0riann! Cheers to those of you who are celebrating happy events! Edited August 23, 2023 by Mr. Boston 25

Rare kazu Posted August 23, 2023 #13 Share Posted August 23, 2023 thanks for our Hump Day Daily, Rich. those of us who have to fly to cruise will certainly appreciate Ride the Wind Day. Love daffodils and wish I had my sweetheart to hug every day. LOL on the Bukowski quote. The meal sounds interesting. @Vict0riann a very happy birthday to you! Hope Pat treats you royally today. @HAL4NOW Bon Voyage! Have a wonderful cruise! Wow - a cool morning. Hopefully not too cool for my tomatoes. Wasn’t expecting this at all. It is supposed to warm up to be a nice day 🤞 Hoping I can muster the energy for all the to do’s on my list today - after some much needed errands. A true sign of early Fall - forecasters are watching Franklin for impacts here already ‘sigh’. Yup, we are approaching tropical storm/hurricane season. 😔 Prayers for those on the Care list, those suffering losses, health issues and worries & those that need them. cheers to those celebrating and cruising. Have a good Wednesday everyone. 24 2
Rare rafinmd Posted August 23, 2023 #14 Share Posted August 23, 2023 Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Dixie, Tina, and Ann and Happy Hump Day. Happy Birthday Ann and Bon Voyage @HAL4NOW. I have not been to Qaqortoq. Strange statement by Bukowski. I think I'll pass on the days and have no clue to the meaning of the day in history but it was not a good day for William Wallace. The meal sounds interesting although I have no clue about what it is. My alternative is Slow-Braised Boneless Beef Short Ribs with Alaskan Berries and Classic Alaskan Berry Cobbler as served on MS Statendam August 23, 2014. Off to the Mall to walk. Rare 0106 Posted August 23, 2023 #15 Share Posted August 23, 2023 Welcome home @dfishand @StLouisCruisers I’m going to stick around for a few days to give Debbie time to settle back into life on land. Shawarma is a lot like a gyro, kind of like a taco, but so different in many ways. Shawarma is thinly sliced cuts of meat: chicken, beef, goat, lamb, or sometimes turkey, rolled into a large piece of flatbread or pita that has been steamed or heated. Inside the pita, hummus, tahini, pickles, vegetables, or even french fries are added. Think of shawarma as a Middle Eastern-style taco or burrito. Shawarma is made by placing raw meat on large, rotating cone towers. As it rotates, the meat is cooked by a heat source that is located behind the actual cone. The meat slowly falls off or is thinly sliced by a chef with a large knife. It can take several hours to fully cook. It's really hard to duplicate the taste of authentic shawarma without a tower. You can come close, but there is still that "something" that is missing. For today’s recipes, when buying your meat, dark meat (thigh meat) is the best for shawarma, but white meat will work, too. Ask your butcher or supermarket meat department to slice it very thinly. Ideally, the meat will be thinner than cutlets. Chicken Shawarma This recipe marinates the chicken and cooks it on the stove top or BBQ. It includes a recipe for the yogurt sauce. It suggests serving it as a wrap or a Shawarma plate with rice and salads on the side. This Chicken Shawarma recipe roasts the chicken on a sheet pan in the oven after marinating. How to Make the Perfect Chicken Shawarma Recipe I found this article from The Guardian very interesting but of course, I like to read about food. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good. 22
aliaschief Posted August 23, 2023 #16 Share Posted August 23, 2023 (edited) Good morning. Already seems a long day as I got up at 4 AM to drive Sue to airport. We have been to today’s port of call. Trying to figure out how spring daffodils get their day in August? Our house cleaner will be here later on or I would consider going back to bed. @Vict0riann Happy Birthday!🎂 We went out to dinner last night to a local Italian restaurant. Pretty much a local gem secret but so popular one needs a reservation. Fantastic food and huge portions. Voted this year best Italian restaurant in Emerald Coast. If you drove by it you would never think of stopping and dining there. Another 95 plus extreme heat index day. It will be nice to get out to Oregon in a week and enjoy some cooler weather and beach. Thanks for the Fleet Report and post. Enjoy your Hump Day. Bruce Edited August 23, 2023 by aliaschief 13 2

cat shepard Posted August 23, 2023 #19 Share Posted August 23, 2023 (edited) Thank you for today’s R & D, Rich! It is a gorgeous morning here, though the humidity is expected. If we are lucky, another Easterly breeze will keep the heat & humidity tolerable. @Vict0riann Ann, may your new year be filled with laughter, love, great health & a cruise - or two! Vanessa, thank you for keeping our lists. My donation to AmVets is packaged & awaiting their arrival. My furniture donations go next week. I have an early morning manicure, then Bindi walks, chores HIIT, and pool time. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well and stay well everyone! ************ Quinta Da Rosa - Dourosa Douro Estate Red 2019 Another red blend from Portugal. No idea how many grapes are in this one, but it has a higher critic & consumer rating and a lower price! I have no clue what a black currant tastes like, but I would love to taste this wine to find out. Available from a decent number of online distributors with prices starting at $20.97. Winemaker Notes Quinta de la Rosa's best-selling wine – a perfect representation of their style. Wonderfully versatile, it’s easy to pair food with. WE91 Wine Enthusiast This young, structured wine from a family-owned estate has good balance between its acidity and the black-currant fruits. They are supported by young tannins that will soften as the wine matures. Edited August 23, 2023 by cat shepard 24 7
RMLincoln Posted August 23, 2023 #20 Share Posted August 23, 2023 Thanks for the Fleet report Rich. Popping in early to say that I got word a couple of hours ago that the NM team returned safely from their mission to get a dying neighbor to CA to her brother’s care. Thank you all for your caring support. Yesterday we made a lot of progress each: DH wrote up new guidance for the trust attorney, took most of the day to get it all organized, discussed, reviewed together and ready. During this year DH and I have researched our options for our future as well as reorganized and simplified our financial structure, and that all needs to be addressed in the new trust. So it seems it’s all working out. And I made progress to working on our cruise trip coming up. We have reservations pre- and post- cruise; learned about the train schedules and how to buy tickets getting from Poughkeepsie where we’ll leave our car to Manhattan and back. And dug out all our maps and travel books for tge ports we’ll visit. Now that they’re out I can figure out what we’ll take. I also sent my niece screenshots of map portions and directions to help get her here next week on her way from NC up to upstate NY. Making progress. Blessings to all in need! Cheers to those celebrating! Happy Birthday @Vict0riann Bon Voyage to @HAL4NOW and safe travels Debbie, Sue and Sandi and DH - have greatly enjoyed your travels with you. Thank you so much for your efforts. Hope you are all well enough to have a good day heading home. Now for maybe a wee more sleep. Rare Denise T Posted August 23, 2023 #23 Share Posted August 23, 2023 Good morning, everyone and happy Wednesday. Thank you for the Daily and Fleet reports. It will be a cool and sunny day here. I am working on grading assignments today at home so I may just take the laptop outside along with Fancy. I will report that with the change in medication, a more concerted effort at eating better and a wonderful Fancy to go for walks with, I can report that my fasting blood sugars are now 50 points lower. I will continue to work on it. Happ birthday to @Vict0riann Bon Voyage @HAL4NOW Thinking of all on the care list. Rare ottahand7 Posted August 23, 2023 #25 Share Posted August 23, 2023 Happy birthday @Vict0riann! 🎂🍾 Bon Voyage @HAL4NOW! 🛳️🍾 @marshhawk prayers for your DHs eye surgery today. @Denise T great news on your blood sugar! @richwmn thanks for today's Daily and Fleet Reports. I guess the are really celebrating Daffodil Day in the southern hemisphere. I hope we are aren't riding the wind today but I am sure those school kids in Pakistan that their ride is over safely. I will hug my sweetheart today. A crazy quote. Thanks to our early riser @Quartzsite Cruiser for her double set of our Q port photos today. I will pass on the punch, the Shawarma photos look tasty, the wine sounds wonderful also. Thanks for finding these for us each day. Prayers for the people of Maui going through homelessness and the missing loved ones. Prayers for baby Murphy that she can be weaned off the ventilator this week. Prayers for those needing them and the people of Ukraine. Thanks for all the messages yesterday about the passing of our friend Frank. His wife is doing well. They married on New Year's Eve in Las Vegas about 4 years ago. They had been together for 9 years after Frank's wife passed away after a long illness. Elaine helped him live to 98, she knew she probably wasn't going to have long with him. We had a nice trip into town and dodged all the rain. We have basically a gray day here today. Not without excitement last night. Just as I was getting into bed I heard scratching at the back door. I told John I guess it sounded like a mouse. Just as I got into bed and the hall nightlight hadn't yet timed out I said, "cover up, it's a bat". I turned on the light and it flew out. I shut the bedroom door and turned on the hall light. Our bathroom door was already closed so we had two clear spaces for the night. We live in a log cabin full of furniture and nooks and crannies. No way we can find it until it presents itself. That was not the end of strangeness. No sooner than we were about to fall asleep the very bright solar lights came on so I sat up and I swore I spotted a full sized house cat trotting down the sidewalk. Nothing wild trots like that or has a long, thin tail. We saw small vehicle tire tracks on the logging road about 2 miles away. I sure hope no one dumped a cat so far out in the woods. I can't imagine where it came from. Enough excitement I hope today is calm with the bat laying low. I think the generator may come on today for the first time in a month. Too much cloud cover for too many days. We are beginning to see bits of red colors in the maples already. Have a great day. Nancy 20
