Another situation where people came back late from an excursion, were left behind, and blamed the cruise line...

100%! Ships excursions are like training wheels, we've enjoyed our excursions more since we started finding our own.

If you bought the excursion through the cruise line, they will wait for you! If you bought the 

excursion from any other source, it's your responsibility to find a way to rejoin the ship, if they left you on the pier!

There are also the laws of the company of the ship.

 

Nope, I don't have details.  But in most cases no one is going to release info to anyone without authorization

Has anyone had personal experience of a cruise line contacting a noted emergency contact?  I wonder if it’s just a legal requirement to have such information.  On Celebrity during online checkin there is a place to list an emergency contact but the form only allows you to list a first name…no spaces.  LOL.  I suppose you could run their name together:  JohnGreen.

Actually they can leave without you. The language is written such that they guarantee you will be returned to the ship but that could include transporting you to the next port. I'm sure it's a very rare occurrence but that's how they worded it.

They probably don't need a last name. If you specify "John" and a phone number, they will probably be able to find the John who you specified.

I've been scrolling through the comments on this thread and nobody has really pointed out that in the interviews with those cruisers and articles that have been linked in this thread, none of the stranded really blamed the cruise line for the situation. There's a lot of assuming going on in this thread without any real source where the group is cited as blaming the cruise line. It seems like they understand it was their responsibility.

 

OP even used "blamed the cruise line" when their own source didn't mention the pax blaming anyone at all.

When one of the passengers is quoted on an international interview “they (NCL) were too strict in the enforcement of their guidelines”; I consider that blame

Yeah, that confused me as well.  I was feeling bad for them due to the transportation screw up, until I remembered.  Maybe they were docked at the one pier that’s out of town?  We got that one once.

This is a good lesson.  If you get left by an excursion immediately call the port ( which they did) and look for alternate transportation if it’s close to all aboard.  Do not depend on others.  It was too far to walk ( where they docked was 25 min by car outside of town). Not sure if Uber or a cab was even available. 
 

I feel for this family as I doubt they were experienced travelers or cruisers. 
 

Even those experienced can have this happen.We really try not to book independent excursions that are not scheduled to return at least a couple of hours before sail time.

Same. We want at least 3 hours of buffer from tour end to gangway up.

Norwegian docks at their own cruise terminal they built called Wards Cove. its north of Ketchikan and requires shuttle buses to/from town

I read the article and my immediate thought was.....cruise ships don't wait they just promise to get you back to the ship if excursion booked through them ....

 

But NCLs website literally states "never get left behind. If a Norweigen organized tour is late, the ship will wait for you"

 

Pretty bold statement considering any number of things could potentially go wrong. I couldn't find an additional fine print so maybe it is buried in there. NCL did cover all of their out of pocket expenses though.1721329034797555524229906624486.thumb.jpg.639f8b0ac8642d5add30861e2d32782e.jpg

 

Royal's states that they will get you back to the ship not that the ship will wait.

My understanding is that this excursion was booked through NCL.

I believe NCL has acknowledged their error in leaving the family behind, reversing the customs fee for leaving the ship before visiting a foreign port and agreeing to reimburse expenses. But it must have been a awful for the family leave behind.
