$120 NYE Party on Explorer

Recommended Posts

When I read the thread title, I thought maybe the Explorer of the Seas was berthed at the OPT and RCI for charging for pax to view the NYE fireworks on Sydney Harbour from the pool deck. At $120pp that would be a bargain.

Enjoyed NYE last year on the Promenade of the Voyager at no cost with RCI supplying plenty of free champers.

If they want to take a lounge like 270 and have it be a party with a surcharge so be it. As long as they have a complimentary party somewhere that is where I will be.

As others have said, New Years cruises are now one of, if not the most expensive cruises of the year, and part of what made the cruise worth the higher prices was a great new years party. If the included parties get smaller or even non existent because of the surcharges these cruises will definitely not be worth the prices anymore. It will be interesting to hear what happens at these parties and what they include - and if they continue.

This year for me I will be ringing in the new year with my crew at work.

It is a good business model. If Royal Caribbean can think it up and get people to pay for it, then they are doing their corporate due diligence.

Now, you won't find me renting a cabana at Labadee, frequenting the casino, getting a drink package, getting sprcialty coffees, doing most shore excursions or paying for a NYE party but I will be paying the same base rate for the cruise. I might do a specialty restaurant and will buy a bottle of wine every night, but that is how I choose to spend my money.

As I see it, you pay for the cruise and extras are extra. If you want an all inclusive cruise, then the base rate will be higher. Holiday sailings are going to be higher in price just because they are holiday sailings, because of supply and demand.

According to this thread, the NYE party in 270 on Anthem ranges from $1500-$3000 per couple :

Crazy. I could take another cruise for those prices. Why hasn't anyone posted a copy of what Royal sent them that describes what they are getting for these prices?

All I have seen so far is what someone heard or posted on facebook. Maybe everyone gets some leftover Peter Max paintings.;)

Making Vintages, Sea Plex, 270, pool area, etc. all for a charge doesn't fall under extras are extra, in my book. It's straight up opportunistic gouging of those already paying a premium for this particular week and it greatly reduces the number of venues for those not willing to pay a premium.

I've been on NYE cruises and it has always been a big party atmosphere. I wouldn't enjoy it as much if it were a bunch of smaller segregated parties and those not willing to "pay up" don't have many places to go.

But, I get it, those that can cruise this week can afford the premium. Doesn't make it right, but if they have the cash to splash...

The cost of a cruise that goes over NYE is exorbitantly expensive as it is and to charge more for a NYE Party is over the top and wrong, IMO.

Lots of things could be considered 'extras' that people pay for that you have identified such as the cabana at Labadee, buying a drink package, buying specialty coffees, or doing shore excursions, I just don't feel fall into the same category as paying for a NYE Party onboard. I don't like that on Oasis class ships that they charge for the use of the sauna and steam room. The casino is there for those who want to play or as I call it 'donate their money'.

We do the shore excursions we want, we do Izumi (if available) which is the only specialty restaurant of any interest to us, we don't drink enough to justify a drink package. I missed the use of the sauna and steam room on Allure, but won't pay for something I believe should be included in the cruise fare.

Prices for NYE cruises were very high and adding more for the party that you expected without an extra fee is gouging.

I certainly missed that, then. Thanks.

Karen and I were only talking about it a week or so ago. I wonder if it started on the Oasis class and then percolated to the other ships. I attached a single post link below.

I'm not a fan and of paying more for the cruise just because it is over New Years and less of a fan for paying more to go out that night. I will save a few bucks and a sail the first week in January. It's bad enough when they move be the chairs at 6am at the pool deck, I sure wouldn't want to be in a cabin directly under the NYE deck party on Explorer, especially if I retired early.

The good thing is there are choices in life to be made, and I choose not to cruise at this time of year.:)

Our friend is sailing on the Freedom of the Seas right now. Here is what he posted on facebook....

They are offering suite guests front row reserved seats for New Year's Eve at $1,500 per person. Back row is $800. Not clear what they get for that.

Those prices are quite impressive.

This was the year we could actually cruise over NYE and looked at the pricing as decided that the prices were just too high to spend. We booked other cruises (yes cruises) for the price we would have paid for one over NYE, at the time we had considered it.

As you, I chose NOT to cruise over NYE.

Kind of makes me wonder what the next "special event" will be that Royal will view as a shakedown opportunity!

But on the other hand....who can blame them for pushing the envelope if people are actually paying?

Not a bad idea...there could be 3 tier pricing in 270: Gold $1500, Silver $1000, Bronze $500. ;)

(Plus 18% gratuity)

We are on Vision right now for New Year's, first time at sea for this and already booked for 2016 on Serenade.

So far on here I have only seen the balloons already suspended above the Centrum ready for the midnight drop and a table set up outside Windjammer offering better quality champagne for purchase. I checked with the bar person that there will be the complimentary bubbles available. Looks like we chose the right ship to be on!

As regards the pricing of both the cruises we were not ripped off and did not pay over the odds. It was all about timing when we booked :)

We're on the Majesty tomorrow night and were offered the opportunity to purchase VIP seating.

I'll report back and let y'all know how us poor people partied :)

We will be right there with you! Looking for the poor party on Majesty! So excited for the chance to cruise over NYE!

so watch it one deck higher above the pool. better view of the Jumbotron anyway

and I disagree the pool deck is open 24/7 for anything other than walking from one end of the ship to the other past say 10 pm. the deck chairs are stacked, the pools and hot tubs netted over or drained for maintenance and the pool bar dark.

Wrong again and again and again.....

I'll be on Enchantment tomorrow and the only change I see pre-cruise is the special wine pairing dinner at Chops for $74.95/pp for the first 2 nights. It's sold out those 2 nights, even for the regular $35 meal. Otherwise there should be live bands throughout and free champagne at the midnight balloon drop in the Centrum. I just hope I can make it to midnight without falling asleep lol.

I'm a little surprised at the options for up charging NYE but I guess they're offerring and if people are willing to pay, then they are more than welcome.

I'm not selling any of MY RCL shares. Maybe they will announce a stock split next month at this rate.
