Asking steward for a foot stool in a veranda balcony cabin

We'll be on the Equinox in February & I'm thinking of asking our steward if he can get us a foot stool for our lounge chair in our veranda balcony cabin. Has anyone ever done this I would certainly make it worth it to him (good extra tip).

Since foot stools are considered one of the few extra features of a Concierge Cabin, I do not think your steward would be allowed to obtain one for you. Asking for one might put your steward in an embarrassing position.

If your steward got you a footstool there would be a very long line of others expecting the same. If a footstool is important book Conciegre, but don't put your steward in a position of having to explain what you already know- veranda cabins don't have footstools.

On our last cruise, my husband was dealing with knee problems - wearing braces on both knees and needing to ice them frequently. Our room attendant kindly provided ice and a small shower seat (from a handicap accessible cabin?) so that he could extend his legs to ice his knees while sitting on the balcony.

Worse case scenario is your cabin steward says no. If you manage to get one keep quiet about it and be thankful. Those following may also be lucky but if it becomes common knowledge then no chance. Bit like the 5% rort getting non refundable OBC from the casino. It became abused and was stopped

I don't think they have a room full of unused footstools, just waiting for someone to ask for them. If you want this particular amenity, then you should book concierge. I don't think you should even ask your steward. Why ask him for something he can not provide and let him know that he has disappointed you right from the start. That's simply not right.

We will be on Summit soon, and there are no footstools in Aqua. We are bring inflatable footstools. Many many to choose from on Amazon. Not expensive and easy to pack.

I'm 1 for 2 in the request department. My steward very kindly provided me with a footstool in a verandah cabin on Solstice last year...I was not able to get a footstool a few months ago on Reflection. I appreciated the steward making the request anyway.

I think there is a big difference from 'needing' to 'wanting' a foot stool. If you need one for medical reasons I would suggest putting a request on the special needs form and I am sure they will do the best they can to provide....

If you simply 'want' a foot stool I do think it can cause the cabin attendant difficulties if he provides one for you then the next cabin spots and asks.....

We generally cruise suites and have, over the years, seen room attendants and butlers put in difficult situations by guests trying to get facilities they were not entitled to....I agree with those who suggest browsing on Amazon...

Improvise by using a stack of towels form the pool placed on top your luggage or the life jackets as the base for a little height.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌞

Surprised to hear that Aqua on Summit has no footstools. That is an amenity in all Aqua cabins I have been in on all other ships. I will have to check. Thanks for the heads-up.

I know they were not available in the concierge cabins on the Infinity a few years back. Some of the AQ balconies on the M-class ships are so small that there is no way you could fit a chair plus foot stools. Well, maybe not that small but certainly would be very cramped and hard to move around out there. Who knows, maybe they even tried it but so many went overboard, they just did away with them. ;p ... .just kidding, of course.

We had 2 Sky Suites on the Infinity & the balconies were too small to accommodate anything more than 2 chairs & a small table. We had the steward remove the table as it made the balcony hard to move around.

That seems a bit over the top IMHO. No harm in just asking (I don't personally agree in offering a bribe) . Elsewhere on the ship your're allowed to ask for extras, things that aren't on the menu, two mains if you want - they're more than happy to help you if I can. In hotels I will often ask for a room with a nice view / high floor etc (knowing it might be a more expensive room), sometimes they say yes, sometimes they say no. If they say no, they will usually say it's not available or I need to pay extra - no big deal. My relationship with the cruiseline or a hotelier is a business - customer one. I'm not a friend of the business, I know they're trying to empty my wallet and if I can get a little bit more for my money that's great.

Apart from when you ask at the hotel, it's usually a person who has authority to grant you the upgrade without charge. It's not quite the same for the room steward; his main role is to ensure you have the items you have paid for in your room and to keep it clean and tidy etc., not to provide extra amenities that others have paid for as part of the room they have booked just because you want them (it's different if there is a medical reason). If that's the case, we may as well all book the lowest cabin and ask our room steward for all the extras that come with booking Concierge, Aqua, suites etc.

Totally disagree. If you are in a standard balcony cabin, you are not entitled to a footstool. And yes, there is harm in asking. You are putting your CS in an untenable position. Either they accommodate your undeserved request (and risk upsetting other pax--they would have to carry it down the hall to you).. If they don't accommodate, they run the risk of upsetting you. To ask for stuff you do not deserve is a lose-lose situation for a hard working employee. Buck up and pay the tariff for a cabin that includes it or forget about it and live without.
